This is a must,
By A Customer
This review is from: Black College Student Survival Guide (Paperback)
This book is a must have for African American students that plan on attending college. This book is easy reading. The book is good for those students that don't enjoy reading that much because it flows. This book also makes references to others books that young African American students will enjoy reading.

A black freshman's students must,
By Phillip D Harris (Clairton, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Black College Student Survival Guide (Paperback)
I found this book to be informative, enlighteniing, and at the same time, easy to read and follow. Even though many freshman don't like to read, they should find this book easy flowing and non-threatening. Despite the book addressing the needs of the Black college freshman, it could and should pertain to all first generation college students. I will incorporate a lot of the materials in my freshman orientation classes.

As a counselor I am concerned about the low retention of African American students .This book is excellent for staff and students concerned about retention.

This is a good book for any college student who may be or even feel underprepared for college. The author stresses accountability rather than gimmicks or shortcuts. It should have had a better proofreading for minor gaffes in spelling, etc., but if you can ignore those, it's a nice guide.
