2.0 out of 5 stars NOT for dogs with anxiety disorders
Our dog had destroyed two crates in a month before we tried this one. This crate would probably hold most dogs, but it only took our year-old German Shepherd 90 minutes or less to remove one of the vertical bars and escape. She did this the first time we left her in it. If you suspect your dog has separation anxiety, I would strongly advise calling a behaviorist before...

I purchased this crate for my 65 pound chocolate lab / pit bull mix 3 year old who has some speration anxiety issues. She had destroyed 2 previous crates and hurt herself once while trying to escape. This crate is HEAVY DUTY. 80 pounds shipping weight. The construction is nice with welded vertical and horizontal bars. The crate bolts together with included hardware which was nice but could have included a few extra washers. (They only include enough washers to be used on the nut side of the bolts. Went to home depot and got 60 cents in extra washers to do the job right) There were no directions but once you pull everything out its easy to see how to fits together.
I did feel that the locks on the crate were a bit flimsy so I picked up a couple of barrel bolts from home depot as well and bolted them on. I have not noticed any bends in any of the locking mechanisms so I assume that the original locks were strong enough but for 98 cents it was worth the piece of mind. The crate collapses on itself for transport and can bolt together in less then 5 mins with a ratchet and wrench. The only downside is that the crate arrived with a broken weld for the floor of the unit. I used some epoxy from home depot to fix the weld. My dog loves the crate and shes not afraid to go in it and lay down during the evening hours which she never did with the cheep crates from the local pet stores. If you have a dog that likes to abuse their crate or escapes you need this crate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looks Good, Works Great, Worth Every Penny, June 10, 2010

We have an 80 lb black Labrador Retriever who is an "escape artist". He has torn about, broken open and otherwise destroyed three different crates. The first two were the sort that you can buy at Petsmart. Reasonably heavy guage wire, but nothing that will stop a large dog that is really determined to break out of the crate. The third one was similar to this but with 20 guage wire rather than actual bars.

Unlike the other reviewer, I bought this crate on Amazon from Pampered Pets. The crate arrived in good condition and was easy to assemble. It doesn't include instructions, but assembly was very obvious and easy and they weren't needed. The hinges and locks are just fine. My dog has been in the crate for two weeks now and nothing is bent, damaged, etc. The previous crates were destroyed in 2 weeks, even the heavier third one.

I am very happy with this crate. I wish I had found it sooner rather than spending money on three other products that were never designed for the sort of dog that I have in the first place.

If your dog breaks out of crates routinely, you need something better than the typical doggie crate/kennel. This is it. It's anything but typical, with heavy duty bars that no dog smaller than a Dane could bend or break. And it still looks good, unlike some of the other heavy duty crates I saw that looked like they belonged at the dog pound.

I highly recommend this. You'll ultimately save money by spending a bit more on this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars nowhere near worth the price, cheaply manufactured, April 12, 2011

The transaction went well and the shipping was fast, but the cage cant even handle a 50 lbs pitty. He has no separation anxiety or temperment problems. As a matter of fact, he has been professionally trained by a K9 handler and successfully passed the AKC Good Canine Citizen test on his first try, so I know he's not the "crazed, vicious" pitbull that people ignorantly try and tag them as! Anyways, all the bars on one side are completely bent to the point they're touching each other, which was done simply by my boy biting them together. The bars are not welded in, so I have to tac weld the other bars to stay in place and hopefully make them a bit more resilient to being bent together. In addition, for this cage to remain half-way useful, I have to reinforce the entire thing with metal grating to ensure it does it job. The locks are cheaply made and barely do their job, especially on top. I have to use a zip tie to keep the top of the cage from getting unlocked. Since the locks need some help from gravity to work properly, the horizontal lock on top shakes free with minimal effort. I attempted to contact the seller about how the grated flooring goes in the cage, but received no responce, so I've concluded that it is useless, as it will not stay in the cage. I've had it just sitting on top to provide "extra weight", even though the 10 cent zip tie is doing its job flawlessly. If anybody needs some high quality zip ties, I can recommend the 20 pack from autozone, its about the only thing that I have 100% confidence in on the cage!

If a dog really wants out and has the strength to back up that desire, this item won't work for you.

This is the biggest waste of money! Do not purchase! I have a Husky and the bars on the cage were bent after 3 days. My Husky only weights 46 lbs. I contacted the seller and they refused to process a return or refund. This product is garbage! I repeat a big waste of money!

I bought this crate for my 70 pound shepherd mix that has developed separation anxiety. Thinking this crate would do the trick...being the strongest I've found on the market...I was severely disspointed. 2 days and he bent 3 of the bars to the point where the cage is no longer usable. Waste of money :(

The first thing out APBT did was bend the flimsy aluminum bottom pan and shove it through the bottom of the kennel. I hammered it flat and replaced it; he quickly tore up the other end of the pan. I was researching metal shops in the area to get a steel plate for the bottom. This was a waste of my time, as the dog bent the metal bars of the crate. The manufacturer/distributor describes this as heavy duty, but our dog destroyed the walls quite easily. We wasted nealry 300 dollars on this failure of a product.

The crate leaves a lot to be desired for the money. I bought two crates one was from Dog-Stuff for $385 for a pit with severe anxiety separation issues that I adopted, that crate is like a 5 star hotel! Since our other dog does not have an issue with being in the crate. I figured I would get this one because it was cheaper. Well Cheap is what I got. Some of the parts where scratched and had sticky glue paste on it which was hard to remove. Not worth the money. The door does not open fully. The only plus to this crate is that the top opens. Other than to make it easier to put a bed in there, what use is it?
I like to leave the door open so she came in & out during the day, however the door does not open all the way, so you have this door sticking out into the room.
The latch is extremely inferior and a joke, they look like a latch for a Barbie doll house, besides they get stuck and hard to close. There are 2 latches, one to this day is stuck and unmovable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty secure Cage!, November 13, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 42" Black Commercial Quality Heavy Duty Pet Dog Cage Crate Kennel w/Wheels (Misc.)
Overall a good, secure dog cage. It's not perfect and had some dings and dents and knicks and scratches, but they where pretty minor. If you have an escape artist dog like mine, you will need to go to a hardware store and get bigger locks. The cage doesn't bend, but the small locks could be opened by a determined dog. Much better than the wire cages out there though. I would recommend this cage, even if you do have to beef up the lock system by going to a hardware store. It really isn't hard to do and didn't cost more than ten bucks.

The crate is large and seems sturdy. It is over 70 lbs shipped! There was lots of metal dust which rusted on the surface which alarmed me at first, but it wiped off easily. It went together easily even though the instructions were a bit lacking and missing some items like the tray block and lock install. It is a nice crate for the price and I would buy it again. The grate floor worries me a bit as our dog has separation anxiety which keeps us from putting any bedding in as he shreds it and we worry about him choking.
