4.0 out of 5 stars shows why race & gender are important to consider
This book does a good job at showing the influence politics plays on race & how people perceive themselves in class & society. Gregory discusses the overlap of class & ethnicity while steering thoughts far away from stereotypes. He gives a historical representation to show how thoughts have shifted over time to where they are now.

3.0 out of 5 stars an honest ethnography
This ethnography was fairly educational (about Corona's history) but an extremely dry read. The setting is Corona in NY (near or in Queens) and about the "war on race" and the "war on poverty" post war through the 1960s/70s. I did not enjoy this text at all. If you want to read about the genesis of the concept of "race" I suggest reading some Molnar or Brace.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Treatment of Black Neighborhoods and Politics, September 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Black Corona (Paperback)
This is a refreshing look at neighborhood politics in the black community. Issues of class are explored more fully than in other studies, and the role of gender and diversity are also explored.
