Biography

Black Country Communion is a devastating head-on collision between American and British rock influences—a true supergroup that delivers a titanic rock experience greater than the sum of its supremely talented parts.

The seed for Black Country Communion was planted when legendary frontman and bass guitarist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Trapeze) and master blues-rock ... Read more in Amazon's Black Country Communion Store

Editorial Reviews

2011 sophomore album from the English-American Rock supergroup featuring the talents of basslst-vocallst Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple. Trapeze, Black Sabbath), Blues Rock guitarist/vocalist Joe Bonamassa. drummer Jason Bonham (led Zeppelin) and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater). Producer Kevin Shirley explains `On 2, you can hear the band own their music, own their sound, and it is an astonishing musical group unlike any other arid they are absolutely the kings of their genre.' He continues stating, 'I wanted to explore more of the Bonham sound arid more importantly each member of the band gets a unique opportunity to shine, but the music always has the distinct sound that Is BCC.'

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cream Finally Comes to The Surface June 14, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Just when you thought the genre of blues rock had been exhausted and could ever be ignited again, along comes this vibrant and refreshing album. And from a bunch of old and experienced music hands. This is far more cohesive than the first communion album. All musicians excel on this album and have grown into an extremely tight unit. Jason Bonham is brilliant on the drums, finally jumping out of the shadow of his dad which he has lived in for most of his life. Bonamassa is a genius. Just beautiful guitar playing throughout. He has injected new life into guitar playing. I used to love how Paul Kossoff played back in the Free days. This guy has to be in the top rung of guitarists next to Kossoff, Ritchie Blackmore, John Petrucci and Neal Schon. Glenn Hughes is singing and playing bass as well as ever. His sometimes eccentric singing has been curtailed somewhat for the better. It probably has something to do with being in a band with an equally good singer in Bonamassa. The glue and musicscape that has been created by Sheridian cannot be underrated especially the keyboard punctuation he places in the music throughout this album. His time in prog bands such as Dream Theater has paid off. Enough of the musicians, I just can't get enough of listening to all of the tracks, especially The Battle of Hadrians Wall, Little Secret, Cold and Faithless, which has to be one of the best songs Glenn Hughes has ever been involved with. I forgot to mention the opener (The Outsider) and Crossfire. There is not a dull moment anywhere on this album. A must have for all those rockers out there that still crave for the days of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and something new. Absolutely brilliant.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, riff-based tunes with a "classic rock" feel June 24, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Make no mistake about it, the model for this band is Led Zeppelin, and it's not simply because Jason Bonham is behind the drum kit.

I had huge reservations about this band before actually listening to this CD, and that was primarily because of Glenn Hughes. His tenure in Deep Purple...primarily via the live albums...took "wretched excess" to a new level, just tuneless, aimless screeching that didn't necessarily have anything to do with what the other band members were playing.

The good news is that time...or perhaps time and sobriety...have sanded off the rough edges of those days, and what we're left with is a "classic rock" howler who can still hit the high notes, thankfully in less of a nails-scarping-down-the-blackboard manner.

Joe Bonamassa has rightfully earned a position in the "Guitar Gods" hall of fame...he was my primary reason for wanting to listen to BCC, and he does not disappoint.

Jason Bonham has always been a "power drummer," following in his dad's footsteps. When he joined UFO, it made sense...power drummer in a classic hard rock band. When he joined Foreigner, I assumed it was strictly for monetary reasons. The fact that he's no longer with them is a plus, the fact that he's pounding the kit in BCC Zep-style is an even bigger plus.

I still feel that Derek Sherinian's sole full-length studio album with Dream Theater, Falling Into Infinity, is their best to date, due in no small part to the participation of Sherinian and producer Kevin Shirley (who also produces BCC). He's also released a consistently strong number of solo albums and albums as a member of Planet X.

This is the kind of album I import into iTunes and let play while I'm working or Web-surfing. There wasn't a single "how did THAT get on there" track...it's largely stomping, riff-based Led Zeppelin music, including the necessary "Black Dog" and "Kashmir" overtones (plus "Little Secret," which I assume is supposed to be this band's "Since I've Been Loving You." The only thing Hughes DOESN'T do is tell you that he's been working from seven to eleven, leven, leven...)

Derivative isn't always a bad thing, especially when the sings are performed by musicians with the chops to pull it off.

Unless you are some kind of Led Zeppelin purist...unless you have taken an oath of loyalty to Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and have sworn to listen only to actual Led Zeppelin tunes and to denounce any band that pays any level of homage to their classic sound...what you have here is a CD's worth of extremely talented musicians BRINGING IT, just rocking relentlessly, and I was very pleasantly surprised. I expected the worst and got a pretty cool CD instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Great Rock Supergroup". June 14, 2011
Format:Audio CD
This is a great sophomore CD release by the English-American rock supergroup Black Country Communion (Glenn Hughes, bassist/vocalist; Joe Bonamassa, guitarist/vocalist; Jason Bonham & keyboardist Derek Sherinian), titled Black Country Communion 2. This CD (11 tracks) has great rock music (in composition, guitar work, melody & vocals). Stand-outs/gems/solid tracks include "The Battle For Handrian's Wall" (wonderful piano, vocals & very melodical. This is my favourite track from this CD), "An Ordinary Son" (mid-tempo track with wonderful guitar work & vocals), "Little Secret" (a slow track with beautiful guitar & vocals) & "Cold" (incredible guitar & melody). Great Tracks include "The Outsider", "Man In The Middle", "Save Me" (a slow track with great vocals), "Faithless", "I Can See Your Spirit" & "Crossfire". Okay track is "Smokestack Woman". Overall, the rock supergroup doesn't disappoint, delivers great rock music in this CD 'Black Communion 2', a highly recommended CD listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff!
Sounds like 70's rock to me. Good production, great hooks.
Energetic and alive. Bonamassa shows his chops beyond the scope of the blues but the vibe is always there.
