5.0 out of 5 stars Classic rockumentary
This is definitely one of the greatest rock films ever made (of course, being a Black Crowes fan doesn't hurt in the appreciation of it, either!)
It's a shame that more people didn't see this film when first released, but now's the chance to do some required catching up if you've been out of the loop for the past fourteen years. This DVD captures the Robinson...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre.
This video was kind of disappointing. It looks dated, like it was made when such videos were the only way to get a look at the band. There are a lot of clips that are just a music video or promo video playing with the studio track in the background. Some of the live clips are interesting, but they've gotten better with age and the Freak'n'Roll dvd captures their live vibe...

It's a shame that more people didn't see this film when first released, but now's the chance to do some required catching up if you've been out of the loop for the past fourteen years. This DVD captures the Robinson Brothers at the peak of their game, with some of the most classic "Chris'isms" (as fans affectionately call Chris Robinson's innfamous rants) ever captured on film. An especial highlight: The Moscow concert sequence, which contains some of the most superb editing of a rock show I've ever seen. The band's energy is contagious and leaps off the screen! The film certainly turned THIS casual fan into a bona-fide Amorican fanatic (and no, that's not a spelling error...if you don't know what an Amorican is, all the more reason why you NEED to see Who Killed That Bird Out On Your Windowsill).

If you've ever wondered what "the fuss" is all about and why the fans are so loyal to this band, check out this film and you'll know why.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two words,KICK ASS!, December 27, 1998

This video was released in 92' following their tour that year for The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion album, and it is a must have for any Crowes fan.Unfortunately,it's no longer in print, but for those of you that appreciate great music, where there's a will there's a way. Just get a copy somehow. Included are such video favorites as She Talks To Angels,Remedy, Thorn In My Pride, and Hard to Handle as well as never before seen clips of Jealous Guy(recorded in Atlanta),Stare It Cold(from Moscow),and You're Wrong from MTV Unplugged. The tracks Jealous Guy and You're Wrong have never been released in any other form, including the box set that's available now ,that includes the first 4 records and 10 more unreleased songs. The live performance footage is all top notch and the sound quality of the recordings are at a high level as well.It has been recorded in hi-fi vhs mode and Dolby nr was used as well to reduce tape hiss when you're crankin ' it the way it should be played. There is also a good amount of back scene footage from video shoots and touring that let's you get a good feel for the band and life on the road. It even includes footage before the show in Omaha, which is where I caught them at on that tour. At 83 minutes, this video definitely gives you what you're looking for as a Black Crowes fan,and it's a good timeline piece to gauge how they've grown musically from then to now. If you're a rock fan and by some strange occurance don't have any Black Crowes albums,go out and pickup Shake Your Moneymaker and go from there. You'll thank yourself later, and for all you devoted Crowes fans keep lookin' for Who Killed That Bird Out On Your Windowsill,it's worth it's weight in gold.

As a Black Crowes fan, I don't have much choice for buying videos. I do love this one. Plenty of behind the scenes stuff. And great music. Filmed at the peak of music.

What a movie. I first saw this on a battered VHS copy and have been waiting with anticipation for the DVD release. The one dissapointment is there aren't any notable extras...but having said that this is still quite a rock film. The sound is superb, and there are quite a few cool live snippits, and interview segments from local radio stations. A good history primer for fans, and a great insight into the making of Southern Harmony and Musical Companion. The boys look gloriously stoned throughout the entire movie, with some graphic advertising during their stint in Amsterdam. Seeing the film from the large Russian music festival is stunning and really helped show how important music was to the opening of the Soviet Union. I hope the Crowes compile a history for their current run. Great stuff....but can't give five stars due to no compelling extras. GET IT!

I knew about this video on VHS but was holding out. I had been waiting for this video to be released on DVD for some time. I was not disappointed. I have been a Black Crowes fan since their first album release and have loved everything they put out ever since. If you are a Black Crowes fan and heve not seen this video, buy it, you won't be disappointed.
Freak and Roll into the fog is also an awsome but more current Black Crowes video.

Some of the live clips are interesting, but they've gotten better with age and the Freak'n'Roll dvd captures their live vibe much better. Perhaps if you're interested in getting a feel for the band back then, or you have some nostalgia for that era of the Crowes (I don't, I caught on late), it would be more impressive. But I was just bored.

4.0 out of 5 stars Heavy and Blues, September 7, 2001
This is a real and good show for "those about to rock". If you like the hard groups of 70's you probabily will enjoy this band. I become surprised with the competence of the Band, performing with the same accent of Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, T Rex, Creedence, etc. It is not coincidence Jimmi Page play with this Band in a recent cd album. There is an incredible performance of John Lennon's "Jealous Guy". The music titlle is a superb clip, combining hard rock and blues. There is also an incredible scene of the guitar player smelling cannabis with a comic device and facing the camera with an irresistible smile...
