It Kicks, It Thumps, It's Alive, and It's Real......,
By Terry Campbell (Columbia, SC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Black (Audio CD)
Cult Mechanics, Black, is something i've been waiting for now for a long time. I am not a music critic, just a guy who surfs for any new music he can find. I found a listing for this band on another site, and I visited their home page(www.cultmechanics.com). Man was I blown away. All the songs on this disc are cool. My favorite is Dance With the Dead, it is mellow, melodic, almost industrial sounding (i.e. Nine Ince Nails) music, that grabs you and refuses to let go. I mean it isn't representative of the rest of the CD, but it really is an awesome song. Anyway to make a long story short, because I could go on and on about this track. Black has a lot to offer, By Polar, Time, Requim, just about everything on this CD has it's own sound. Don't get me wrong, it is heavy music for the most part, but it has meaning, you can identify with what these guys are saying. Listen.com said thay sounded like, Tool, NIN, and bands like that. I can hear that, but it really sounds like nobody i've heard before, like CULT MECHANICS. If you like agressive music with heart and soul, check this out! You won't be sorry.

Cult Mechanics: Black , Hardcore has a new sound!,
By John Cooper (Charlotte, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Black (Audio CD)
This CD is one of the most refreshing projects I've heard in a long time. It is agressive, mellow, and in general one of the the most listenable disc by a hard edged group. "By Polar" shines as a tribute to the writer's own inner self. It screams Help, while at th same time, says I'm okay reach out and touch me. There are several tracks that I liked on this disc and to coment on each one would take forever. So simply, I will tell you, if you like something different that will please your heavy sweat tooth, give it a listen. John Cooper

On My Top Ten Indie Releases - This Year,
By "gandalf@alltel.net" (Atlanta, Ga) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Black (Audio CD)
I'm working, so I have to do this fast. Black is the best indie release I've heard this year. Similar to NIN, and Filter, but no quiet that industrial, more roots oriented. By that I mean, a strong bass of rock n roll is in their sound. I don't have a lot of time so I will tell you about my favorites tracks. The CD opens with "Flight of Envy" a phat groove metalish song about love and hate, it reminds me of Tool, and man does it smoke! "Time" has a mellow intro, but blows up into a hammering beast, with great melodic vocals and a great middle section, with lots of cool ambient synth sounds, instead of the typical guitar solo. It shows that this band has some sense of how to create a mood. The CD closes with "Requim", a smooth acoustic intro slams into the heavist drop I can remember since Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name". But this song is even more moody than the others. It is hard to define, it's almost sad, and happy at the same time. I can't explain it. "Requim" is a complicated piece of work, that takes me to an emotional edge, and brings me back to sanity. There are lots of good tracks on this one, almost everyone could find something to like on this CD. Take the time to listen!
