"Voluptuous" and "Horror" alright!,

This review is from: Black Date (Audio CD)
I saw this band with Switchblade Symphony opening for The Creatures once on Halloween. Quite a show, I must say. The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black is a gothic/punk/performance art type of band. Their stage show involved numerous props and women in black thongs, thigh-high boots, blue body paint, and nothing else. Their music is loud and obnoxious (at times sort of like Sex Pistols), dark (which was how they got lumped in with goth acts), and guitar-heavy. If you're a goth who's into The Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division, or any of those Projekt bands, this may be too rockin' for you. But if the loudness and guitar feedback of very early Bauhaus, Siouxsie, and The Birthday Party (all of whom seemed like punk bands at that point in their careers, since nobody was bandying around the term "gothic" yet) are appealing to you, then you may get into this band. Catch 'em live if you can...
