This is a great length if you have lots of different shrubs and bushes in your yard. Its important not to have to long of a blade that it becomes unwielding and dangerous. This 17" model is great and its weight adds to the overall enthusiam I have for it.

First I must say that I hate Black and Decker, products always break, but I gave this guy a try from the TR1600 and TR1800 review's, I agree from going to HD and Lowe's that Black and Decker's are solid, all other brands I you can see they are flimsy, wasn't sure why there were very few reviews on the 16inch and it is only 29.95?, I am sure its the same beast just different length, yet if anyone knows else wise please post, first suggest get as long of a blade as you can afford, I would have upped for the 17inch, Ok its solid! Cuts great! Seems like sharp blades and a strong motor! The only neg, is the locking button, but this might have been designed as such for safety? Overall 5 stars, 29.95 with free ship is a great deal for a solid cutting beast, very happy cant go wrong! It clawed through thick twigs and cut leaves very clean, B D if this cutter doesn't break in 3-5 yrs I will consider coming back after 15 years! I do see you know how to make trimmers! Just lets see about reliability?

Very happy with the 17" B&D hedge trimmer. Did a little research and found it was highly recommended by Consumers Reports magazine. Had an older version for 15+ years, and it finally gave out. Don't consider a heavy machine unless you're a body builder! After many hours of trimming you'll be glad you chose this size. Longer blade and heavy weight don't help. I have been using this trimmer for about a month now and love it.

I have a large hedge trimmer and needed something smaller and lighter for ease of manipulation and this B & D does the job. I would limit the diameter of cuts to 1/4" however.

I would recommend this product. I have a lot of underbrush that has been slowly taking over my yard. With the Black and Decker 17 inch hedge trimmer, I am taking my yard back. Thank you Amazon! Great price for a great product!

We received a TR1700 trimmer as a replacement for our old Black & Decker electric trimmer. The blade is just stamped steel and does not cut but hacks small shrubs. I would recommend spending more and getting a better model.

I like these because the blade is short and the trimmer is not heavy. This trimmer does not cause fatigue. Does a great job trimming all sorts of shrubs. Would recommend.

I used this Black & Decker Hedge Trimmer for less than 20 times since I purchased from Amazon on May 7, 2008, and it just stopped working on November 14, 2009.

I've had this trimmer now for 2yrs, and it's satisfactory for hedges and topping off shrubs. It doesn't handle branches thicker than a 1/4 inch. I plan to buy another trimmer, and it will definitely be a B&D. They make great products. This one is great for small jobs, but not so for thicker branch shrubs.
