After reading previous reviews I went out and purchased this scanner and to my surprise all the bells and whistles were working for me. I tried scanning my 2009 Corolla and it did NOT work, tried with my Wife 2008 Suzuki Vitara did NOT work. Tried it on a 2007 Subaru Legacy did NOT work.

But it did work on a 99 Civic, which I do not own but for the hell of it I tried it.

For not being able to work on any of my vehicles I will never recommend this product. Not too mention there is a USB port for updating the product but it can never be detected by Windows XP and Black and Decker website does not provide drivers for it. Black and Decker support also stinks.

Stay away from this product

This is an excellent product. I saw a review on a local news broadcast and it truly is a deal. I've been looking for one of these code readers for a while and this was a great price. Does exactly as advertised.

Excellent addition to the do-it-yourselfer's tool chest. This scanner starts "reading" as soon as you plug it in. There is no series of button pushes needed to get your code. The code appears on the tool as well as an arrow pointing to a color coded bar (green to red) indicating the seriousness of the fault.

I used mine just this past weekend when my check engine light came on. The code 'P303' came up indicating a misfire on cylinder 3. A quick plug wire swap and I was back in business. A simple punch of the delete button (actually two punches)and the the code is erased.

Excellent product at an excellent price!

The B&D Smart Scan does the job easily and well. It is a quality built product that should save the owner money for years to come. I used it and replaced the AIC Valve in my Honda Accord. I saved $225 compared to the dealer cost of part and labor. I purchased the part at Auto Zone for half the dealer cost. The original part was made in Mexico and the replacement from Auto Zone was Japanese. I got the best deal all around and paid for the Smart Scan with $135 to spare for the next repair! I prefer the convenience of having the tool rather than having to get to a part store for their test......my choice.

My husband saw this on TV and thought he might like to have it. He was right. He has already found the reason that his emissions light was on in his pickup truck.
The product, and delivery service are great.

Very handy tool to have available. Easy to use and nice to have online access for any code not in the book that came with it

Works great, simple to use, I really like the code erase feature, no more removing battery cables.

I had a check engine light come on in my Kia about 60 miles from home.
Of course it was at a gas station and nothing had changed. I had taken the car in for maintenance the week before so I thought maybe the dealer had done something.
Or that it might have been a leak in the gas cap.
Well the dealer, also the one I got my brand new Camry SE from wanted $89 to diagnose it and if it was something they had done it would be free of charge.
Well rather than pay that I picked this up on gold box of the day for like $35.00
Hooked it up, it told me the code within seconds.
Looked up the code, and sure enough fuel system leak was causing the error.
Reset the check engine light, never had another problem.
And that was 3 months ago.

Unit paid for itself right then and there in 30 seconds.
I only need one of these about once every 5 years or so, but it already paid for itself first time out.

Pretty good code scanner. I just purchased at a chain clothing store [Hint: "never pay full price for fabulous" Motto] for about $30 as Christmas gift items for Him section. Anyway Christmas comes early. Works great on Subaru and Nissan cars that I tried it on. It says needs 4 AAA batteries but that is for storing the readout data and backlit LCD. Simply turn my car to "On" Key position, plugged it in and it automatically turned on, the readout first says Black & Decker, then it says Reading, then it give you the codes. In both of my cases it read "No Codes" and pointed via LCD indicator to the Green colored band next to the screen, which means no problems and thus "Green" status. It reads quickly and clearly. When I went to register online at Black and Decker, please be aware that Black and Decker automotive electronics have been sold to Baccus Global, which also carries the "Stanley" brand of tools etc. You see this on the BlackandDecker.com website when you drill down to this product. This happened this early fall 2010, nothing on their website yet on how they will continue the online service for this product, but thats soon to come and wait and see. Other than that, it's a sturdy plastic product and feels rugged in your hands. Note it doesn't come with the USB computer connector, but most likely you already have one anyway. That was suppose to be for interfacing online and noted for updates to the unit, but since it is changing product ownerships. Its a wait and see. I did notice that when you plug it to your car its easy to do so, but a little bit difficult to unplug afterward due to how the connector clasp down on the socket (sort of a friction lip clip hold) I think that will work itself out after multiple uses or maybe I'll gently file down that friction lip clip hold a little so it will be easier to release it from the socket. Other than that I am happy with the quality of the unit and it works on my Subaru and Nissan cars.

It didn't work on my Chysler PT also Their was no Tec. service and the Diagnstic Tool has been sold to another Company.
