This is all you need!,

I dashed out to buy this one when I was in the middle of packing for a trip and my old Rowenta gave out. I'll never go back. Forget the more expensive irons - this one does the job and it's all you really need! I use mine every day in the sewing room as well. You'll get way more than your money's worth out of this iron

Gets it done but not easily,

Bought this to replace a retractable cord iron and wish I'd been able to find a better replacement. Some mook has decided that the control wheel belongs under the handle, which is frustrating if you have even medium hands. I constantly bump that wheel and spin the dial up hotter than it needs to be, so have to check EVERY pass so I don't burn delicate laces or satins. Nor is there and off mode on the wheel, just a min. setting that cools the iron quickly. The steam control is thumb accessible if you have the strength of Superman, I am arthritic and need to set the iron down to change the steam. Filling the reservoir was easy WITH THE PROVIDED cup, don't lose that or you'll find yourself trying to find a funnel tiny enough to get into that opening. The cord was not as intrusive as some irons, neither was it completely out of the way.
My last beef is what my friend calls the "old lady safety", the auto turn-off. Every five minutes of non-use, this thing makes a tiny beeping noise and then *poof*, shuts down completely and cools rapidly. Great if you're a forgetful ironer, but stinks for a sewing maniac who prefers to have the iron on all the time. Plus, when the iron is tilted flat again, the iron starts back up and doesn't seem to shut down if it remains flat and motionless for a long period of time. This could be more dangerous than simply leaving the thing upright. I'd rather have control over shutdown mode and have the iron turn itself off if it were left flat too long. Otherwise, it gets the job done well enough. The silver sole plate seems very smooth, though mine is clogged with minerals after only two uses, which I never had with other irons here. I didn't feel like the iron performed as well as one with a teflon plate, I had to boost the control knob higher than I was comfortable with to smooth out satin wrinkles and had trouble getting it to work on linen despite having it jacked to the highest setting. Good weight and good heat up/ recovery times though. I guess if you're looking for inexpensive iron this one will suffice. If you are a quilter or seamstress, pass it by.

Just a cheap iron,

We are hard on our iron, using it daily, dropping it... We have spent 100-150 dollars on our last couple and I was just couldn't make myself do it agian so I thought I'd try something cheap. The only really positive thing I can say about this iron is it has alot of steam. This incluldes when using the steam settings and when you push the blast of steam button. But it's prone to collecting burnt starch on the bottom of the iron suface and it has some sort of "non-stick" coating on it that just creates drag when you iron. Over all I don't really like the iron but I got what I paid for.

Why anyone thinks this is a good iron is beyond me,

I bought this iron based on the recommendations here and was terribly dissapointed. First of all, the iron is very big and heavy. That's not really a problem by itself, but when the iron leaves wrinkles on a shirt as much as it did, it becomes a big problem. The controls were hard to deal with. Turning the iron on and to the setting desired involved getting under the holder. I can see someone burning their hand on a hot iron by accidentally reaching underneath to get a grip in order to work the controls on a hot iron.
The water receiver only accepts water when the iron is laying flat. Well, that's fine if the iron isn't hot, but what if you decide you need water while ironing? The steam controls either don't work on the unit I have, or they don't work similar to any other iron I've used. This iron is far worse than the Sunbeam I'm trying to replace due to inherent problems and leaks.

Great iron. Steams very well. I like that is shuts off, but it shuts off after quite some time 10 to 15 minutes. I did not have any problems filling the iron with distilled water. Great iron for the price. Very satisfied. It does seem a bit heavy when filled with water but then I do not have to press down at all to help get the wrinkles out. I like that it has a steam burst as well.

After much thought and research we decided to buy this particular iron. The first few months with it were alrite. The automatic stop went off every ten minutes after beeping for several annoying minutes. You then have to unplug the appliance for atleast a minute before you can turn it on and use it again. After six months, it started having problems with the steam generator. This after cleaning out the water after every use. THere were mineral deposits all over my clothes and I completely stopped ironing them unless required. Thank god most of my husbands shirts didn't need to be ironed always and I am a scientist...noone at the lab really cares if your top is well pressed or not. Its been a year and a half and the thing will not work with water in it. I need to have something else with which to sprinkle water on the clothes. To iron a single shirt now takes over 10 minutes. Do not bother getting this one. I am right now eyeing a rowenta. Will keep u updated on that purchase.

Don't Like,

As mentioned in another review, if you need to fill the water while iron, it is a pain as is the dial under the Handle. I would say DO NOT BUY this iron.

Don't be fooled by the price. The Black and Decker AS150 works as well as any expensive brand. It is easy to use and does not require excessive applications to give a good press.

A waste of money.,

The hottest setting I could hold my hand to it and not have to worry about getting burned. It can't even iron a thin cotton t-shirt. It's horrible.
