4.0 out of 5 stars Back Saver
Cutoff a lot of manhours in the decking installations. Be prepared for some jams though everytime you reload. I went through about 18-20 screws just fine then had to unjam the head. Unjamming is easy enough though. Saves a lot of wear and tear on your back!!

2.0 out of 5 stars good intentions
Black and Decker had a great idea but has not gone far enough to perfect it. The driver bits, of course, are made poorly and are very difficult to find..just try to find one. The quality is horrible as I broke two phillips head drivers while replacing a small deck on my house (24x8). I've had phillips bits strip before but I've never had them break off until using...

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT DRIVER USES STANDARD CHEAP SCREWS, June 7, 2006

This review is from: Black & Decker ASF100EX Extended Auto Screw Feeder Attachment (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have used other systems like Quik Drive and Superdrive screwing systems. They are expensive and use special screws, which are quite expensive and don't have as a wide range of screw sizes unless you buy the most expensive units which are over $250! This driver from Black and Decker is a great product in that it can take screws up to 3". I have run through 3 boxes of deck screws and have not yet had one misfeed nor have I had any problems with the Robertson driver. Based on other feedback, I purchased extra driver bits from Dewalt.com and they were only $1.58 for a 7 3/4" driver. That's a good deal.

In short I am extremely happy with my Screw Feeder, especially taking into consideration the low price and the savings with using standard screws ---- this is a no-brainer --- if you need to screw floors, decks or ceilings, get this unit, your back and wallet will thank you.

Black and Decker had a great idea but has not gone far enough to perfect it. The driver bits, of course, are made poorly and are very difficult to find..just try to find one. The quality is horrible as I broke two phillips head drivers while replacing a small deck on my house (24x8). I've had phillips bits strip before but I've never had them break off until using this tool. It does jam pretty easily and is a pain to reload. With some work and carbide tiped drivers it could be a winner instead of a looser. Too bad black and decker did not follow thru with some quality control to make their good intentions work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, July 28, 2006
This review is from: Black & Decker ASF100EX Extended Auto Screw Feeder Attachment (Tools & Home Improvement)
I found this auto screw feeder attachment to be very useful. The main purpose was for a deck and it worked as warranted. It holds roughly 13 3" screws at a time, but is easy to fill and the depth setting worked out well. I would recommend that you first use it on some spare lumber just to get the jist with a few screws, but it really is quite easy to use. It came with four bits, two philips and two square drive. I used the square drive and was driving into cedar and treated lumber. It would tend to leave a little imprint of the device on the softer cedar lumber, but I learned to ease up a bit which took care of that issue. For the $$ it was a much needed back saver and was perfect for the project.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really quite a decent tool for being a B&D, June 18, 2007
This review is from: Black & Decker ASF100EX Extended Auto Screw Feeder Attachment (Tools & Home Improvement)
Let me start by saying that nearly every Black and Decker tool I have worked with aside from their older industrial quality tools are well below my standards. I tend to favor Makita tools because they last, they are lightweight, and are reasonably powerful. The recent (past 10 years or so) B&D tools that I have used do not perform their work well, and tend to break fairly easily. I picked up one of these screw feeders from Lowe's on clearance for $10 just to try it out, figuring that I was probably throwing my $10 away. After 2 decent sized decks, and one fairly large barn roof, the feeder is still going strong. It's a little more of a pain to load screws into than my buddy's $300 Senco, but my screws are cheaper, and he spent $290 more than I did on his tool. That and I prefer the feel of my Makita drill far better than the feel of the Senco. So, needless to say, I am extremely happy with my $10 purchase. I only wish I would have bought the other three or four of them sitting on the shelf for when this one does finally break. B&D actually has produced a good quality product, shocked as I am to write it.
