Product Description

Amazon.com Review

The attentive construction of this ceramic heater from Black & Decker takes the chill off a room and reduces safety concerns to a minimum. The unit, built with wide sturdy feet and a nonslip handle, offers several settings--high, low, fan, fan only, and off. The additional "frost watch" setting is great for unoccupied rooms--if the temp drops below 40 degrees, the heater kicks on automatically. Designed to keep kids and pets safe, Black & Decker's Cool Touch housing stays cool everywhere except for the double grilles where the heat comes out. Although the heater is unlikely to tip or fall in normal circumstances, a clever tip-over switch pops out and cuts power immediately if it does. Additional safety features include a heat-triggered shut-down, a red caution light, Fire Shield Protection in the power cord, and an anti-electric shock device. The removable dust filter, amber power light, and power cord test button make upkeep easy. Intended for use on flat dry surfaces, the heater is not appropriate for damp areas like bathrooms or laundry rooms. --Emily Bedard

Product Description

This Black & Decker ceramic heater fan includes a series of safety features. Foremost is the exclusive Fireshield. This component is an ACLI power cord that not only turns the heater off if a shock hazard exists, but also turns the heater off if the line cord is damaged. The unit will also shut itself off when the unit is picked up or if it loses contact with the surface on which it is operating. In addition, it also features the added safety of auto shut off if the heater unit overheats. For convenience, this unit also includes a frost watch thermostat - it can be set so that if room temperature drops below approximately 40 degrees, the heater will turn on to heat the room and prevent frost damage.

2.0 out of 5 stars Noisy and Hot, October 19, 2003
This review is from: Black & Decker BDCH100 Ceramic Heater (Kitchen)
With all the noise this unit makes you'd think it had a powerful fan, but it does not, and as a result the casing gets very hot even on low heat setting. I've nearly burned myself. I'm scared of this thing on high heat setting.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for Hard Surface Floors! BEWARE!, December 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Black & Decker BDCH100 Ceramic Heater (Kitchen)
This heater vibrates across the floor until it meets up with something, hopefully NOT flammable! I have called Black & Decker about this problem, hoping to avoid someone getting hurt by it; but all they told me was, to write them a letter about my problem. I see that they are STILL selling this dangerous item. There is NO warning about it vibrating across hard surface floors. I have been unable to keep it from vibrating across the floor via anti-skid pads.
Before I knew of the danger, I went to sleep with it on in our bedroom. When my husband went to bed, luckily he turned on the light, because it was up against the bedding and still blowing very hot air.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Safety Features, January 9, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Black & Decker BDCH100 Ceramic Heater (Kitchen)
This heater is wonderful. You have the option of dialing the heat level desired and whether high or low heat, or you can have fan only, when the temparture is reached, it goes on stand-by mode. The unit also pumps out heat well. The safety feature that I love is the tilt feature, as soon as it doesn't lay flat on the floor (whether you lift it, or it gets knocked over), it automatically turns off! There's also temperature safeties should the cord get too hot or should the unit itself get too hot (haven't run into this yet, but it's one of the features). The filter is easy to pull out to clean.
