The first thing I thought when I held the item was "wow, this is pretty heavy". It does have quite a bit of plastic but there is nothing cheap about it. It is well constructed. The gearbox inside must made with metal gears given its weight.

Secondly, the thing cuts like a charm. Like another reviewer said... It can/will cause smoke if you rush the cut. However, if you take your time it will cut a VERY straight cut and will do so without any smoking whatsoever.

I appreciate that not only did they provide an allen wrench to mount the blade, but they provided a slot to hold it on board the device.

It does not drain the battery as much as you would think. Its rather efficient. And as heavy as this thing is, the matrix actually does stay standing when this attachment is attached.

My only reservation is the depth of cut. It should have been able to cut a 2x4 in my opinion. A 2x4 is the staple piece of wood in building things. That said, it still can cut 1x2's, all sorts of plywood, different thicknesses of shelving wood. And best off all it does that very well.

Many people will tell you that the matrix is a tool capable of alot, master of nothing... I will tell you they are dead wrong. The drill is phenomenal and the trim saw (within what it was designed to do) is absolutely great.

For those of you that get it, enjoy!

Just be aware, I actually use the Craftsman Bolt On system which is EXACTLY the same interchangeable tool and I'm sure is made by the same manufacturer.

Anyway, I read one of the other reviews which is obviously written by somebody who doesn't use tools so I had to write this.

This is probably my favorite attachment for this tool system. It's solid construction and works well. The housing and blade guard is only made of a thick rigid plastic, except for the plate which is steel. Also take note that the plate does not have an adjustment for beveled cuts. If you need bevel cuts I would just google "how to build a bevel jig", or even "miter jig".

The 20 volts gives it plenty of power. The cutting depth is only about 3/4 inch, but the power is more than adequate for this thickness on the type of woods I've used it on which currently includes pine, fir, plywood and panel veneer finish ply. It flies through any 1/4 or 1/8 material.
NOTE 1/6/14: Just used this to cut through several pieces of 3/4 red oak and it cuts through it like butter.

The blade size is 3 3/8 inch, and the arbor size is 15 mm, which means you can use basically any standard 3 3/8 inch blade. It's not the most common blade size, but companies do make them. The blade it comes with is a solid standard duty blade that appears to have hardened tips, but there are a variety of other blades available made by Makita and various other manufacturers if you are looking for something specifically.

This is a DIY tool for people that use their tools but also take care of them in a standard home environment, and not really a construction site tool that gets thrown into the back of a pickup at the end of each day. It is sturdy, but only for what it is.

I bought this for my Craftsman 20 volt drill, same as Black and Decker ! Attachments fit perfectly and are less expensive than the Craftsman labeled attachments. Works perfect for the handyman or around the house type jobs.

No - your not going to cut 2x4s or 2x6s but, for me, it was excellent on plywood and molding. The plywood was in the attic and in awkward position. I did not need to use the heavier full size circular saw. Although I didn't need it, I always have a back battery. This compact saw is very convenient. I recommend it for small projects.

I rated this three stars primarily due to the fact that I am very happy with the B&D Matrix drill body which drives this and absolutely love the impact driver attachment. When you compare the usability and performance of this attachment to the drill, impact driver, and others it's just not that impressive. I've had the blade get stuck (stop spinning) on what I consider light duty trim work. This attachment also drains the lithium battery much quicker than the other attachments I use regularly. Would I buy it again....probably-to-maybe...just didn't live up to my expectations when compared to how well the other attachments perform.

This attachment to the B&D system has been used extensively during the past month and has held up well. The only fault I see in it is that you cannot change the depth.

Very impressed with the Matrix equipment. I have almost every type of saw that's made. I was skeptical about this little attachment until I bought one. It's well made and nicely designed. There are many times that you need to make a cut where a heavy duty circular saw would be impossible or dangerous and a jig saw cut would be too sloppy. You can make "free-hand" cuts that are accurate and clear very easily!! The blade stops totally the instant you release the "drill's" trigger!

For quick cuts this can't be beat. I had thought the drill wouldn't really have the kind of power to run this well but I am happy to say I was wrong...actually cut through a steel file cabinet with it....I think that shows it has enough power to make the cuts you might need.
