The Gyro has a 4V MAX lithium-ion rechargeable battery capable of holding a charge for up to 18-months. The charging slot is conveniently placed on the bottom of the handle and out of the way if the user needs to charge the tool and use it at the same time.
The Gyro has the ability to operate at 180 revolutions per minute and apply 35 inches per pound in torque while screwdriving. Depending on how steep the user turns the Gyro after activating the screwdriver, the gyroscopic technology will control the speed of the screw bit. The user needs only to rotate their wrist one-quarter turn to the right for a clockwise motion or left for a counter-clockwise motion. The Gyro also has the ability to fluidly change from clockwise to counter-clockwise, or vice versa. For added functionality, the Gyro also comes equipped with a bright, white, LED light that will illuminate where the user is aiming.
The Gyro, while simplistic and small in design, is versatile and functional in use. Although the Gyro only comes with two standard screwdriving bits, it has the ability to accept many other standard bits, making it a perfect tool for many screwdriving needs. The Gyro's small design also makes it ideal for use in tight or cramped spaces, where other larger screwdrivers may not fit. Additionally, the small size combined with its long charge time affords the user the ability to store the Gyro almost anywhere.

I taped the second bit on to the screwdriver body, but that's a temp fix at best. Let me know if you have a better idea. This tool is the type you would keep in the house, away from your other tools, and bits.
That said, the B&D Max Gyro is so simple to use, that I have become a master craftsman, and am now checking every loose screw in the house just so I can feel superior with my new found skills. The Max Gyro is a deceptively simple power screwdriver that sort of reminds me of a Nintendo Wii controller: grasp the handle, smile when the headlight pops on, rotate your wrist to the right, and the screwdriver begins to ... well, screw. The further to the right you rotate your wrist, the faster the motor goes. To unscrew, simply perform the opposite action. Stand back. Admire handy work.
The 4 Volt rechargeable battery is surprisingly strong and long-lasting, but the great thing is it can be charged while being used -- assuming you're working near a power source. Now, it isn't as powerful as, say, a screw gun, but the Max Gyro will handle pretty much any simple job around the house with ease.
Included with this bad boy are two screw bits: the standard flat head, and Philips slot head. Would have been cool if the heads were in a one-piece design, each on opposite ends, as I have a tendency to lose small objects, but I'll make do with what I have.
Overall, I highly recommend this for both the seasoned pro, adding a second addition to the house, or the schmo, like myself, who can barely assemble an Ikea bookshelf. And with a modest price point, the Max Gyro definitely makes for a nice gift, so it is well worth checking into!
I am not, as they say, handy around the house and am more comfortable breaking than fixing. However, sometimes no one will put up that book shelf in the kitchen for you, having paid their dues by assembling half of Ikea's warehouse in your living room. Sometimes you can stand there and look helpless and they just look back at you. That's when this gizmo comes in handy.
First of all, it doesn't weigh a ton, so your wrist doesn't hurt ten seconds after you pick it up. The info packet says it is designed for use in tight spaces, which sounds good to me. I just used it to put up that shelf in the kitchen. The information package also provides the rather startling information that Gyroscopic Technology has been included in the Max Gyro design. The same science that guides submarines also guides your screwdriver. If putting up a bookshelf in the kitchen yourself with no help from anyone doesn't make you feel proud, this certainly should. But all it means is that you don't have to twist the screwdriver, just kind of tilt it a fraction to get it whirling righty tighty or lefty lucy.
It comes with the two usual screwdriver heads, Phillips and the other, regular one. I had a ratcheting screwdriver that was powered by a sort of stabbing motion, which until meeting Max was my favorite of all the household things I never used. It has about 20 different screwdriver heads and, lo and behold, you can use them on the Max. I imagine The Max is designed so you can use the heads from various other ratcheting screwdrivers if you have them.Read more ›
But... the twist required to activate this thing frequently requires awkward wrist action. And with mine, it often slows or even stops, even though I'm holding the same twist pose needed to start it. So I need to twist further. Honestly, with as much twisting as I have to do to get this to work properly, I'm sometimes better off just using a regular screwdriver.
Still: it holds a charge beautifully, the light is handy, it's compact, and well designed.
I don't use it for everything, but for specific tasks, it gets the job done.
