3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but didn't blow my socks off either..., December 7, 2004
This review is from: Black & Decker BDL110S BullsEye Laser Level Stud Sensor (Tools & Home Improvement)
Pretty good overall, but seems kind of pricey for the functionality. The stud finder isn't all that great. If you don't find a nail location it often misses the stud. The electrical wire detector function, on the other hand, works just fine. It is a very nice safety feature that I didn't have on my old detector. The unit sticks reasonably well to clean walls so long as they are not textured too heavily. It's really good in bathrooms to line-up tiles on the green board. Had real problems on lightly textured walls though. The laser level line is easily visible for about 10' on either side of the tool, plenty long for most household applications. It's larger and bulkier than expected, making it less ergonomic than desirable (unless you have pretty big hands). If I had it to do all over again I would almost certainly choose another brand.

3.0 out of 5 stars Laser Level/Stud finder - Not quite ready for prime-time, October 21, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This is a good tool but like so many B&D products, it falls a little short. I've used this twice so far to install metal shelf supports on the walls of a finished garage. The accuracy has been better than if I had used a level plus it's a lot faster and convenient. That is the good news. Two problems have been that 1) the laser doesn't show if the wall isn't flat enough and 2) I haven't figured out how to make it show a mark on a different wall. The first problem is "fixed" by using an adapter (provided) to space the instrument away from the wall by an inch or so, but when you gain that, you lose the ability to use the stud finder. The second problem would be fixable if they supplied a 90 degree mirror attachment so the laser would find the same height on a different wall from the one it is on (like to go around a corner). If it has one, I didn't see it. Also, the centerpin (pins the laser to the wall temporarily) should have been mounted in the instrument housing rather than having to go back to the carrying case every time you need it. I rather doubt the laser would be easy to see outdoors in bright sun conditions. Multi-lingual directions are annoyingly similar print.

It feels like B&D had a good idea but rushed it to market before they worked out the details. It could have been great.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too big and not accurate, November 21, 2002
By A Customer
I purchased this laser product thinking I would use it for various applications around the house. After trying it in several application I noticed some major problems with the unit. First off it is very large and bulky. The mechansim to affix it to the wall is very unreliable and mine fell off the wall several times. The last major problem is that the self leveling device does not acutally self level. I used a level and found the laser to be very inaccurate. The price does not warrant the tool.
