4.0 out of 5 stars Different Mounting
The Bullseye performed well,as promised and I found it to be well worth the price. I do have one minor compalint, that being the use of a standard nail to mount in materials other than dry wall(using the provided mounting pins) I have the old plaster walls and as anyone who has had to mount into plaster can tell you, that no matter what you do(drilling, nailing, etc)it...

I bought this more for the fun. The feature set - an autoleveling or fixed 90 dg. set of laser lines is very useful. The tool comes well equipped in a fitted case - nicely done, that.

The autolevel horizontal line is right on - as checked with a Stabila 6'6" level in a recent kitchen install. It was quite useful. B&D claims a perfect 90. You wish. Over...

You wish. Over on the pro side, you pay upwards of $250 for +/- 1/4" at 100', so for $50, you get less. Mine was 89.86 dgs as checked on a 20' right triangle. I have to cheat it open 1/4" in 9' to do tile grid layouts.

Bottom line: it got stolen and I want another.

3.0 out of 5 stars B&D CrossHair, May 9, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Black & Decker BDL400S Bullseye Crosshair 90-Degree Auto Leveling Interior Line Laser (Tools & Home Improvement)
This tool is easy to use and adequate for the weekend DIY'er. It only illuminates two laser lines (up and to the right) which can be a limiting feature. Lines, however, were level at short distances (less than 10'). I have no desire to have to use the marking target for greater distances. Lock layout feature is good. Quality of beam is adequate to poor - you have to decide whether to save the line or split it when marking - line fades near end of projection and in places completely dissappears on wall (smooth, previously painted drywall). Marking for pin-up to wall is good b/c it is in line w/both beams. For myself - this gadget is going back where it came from while I look for something else. For the money - you get what you pay for - avoid the stud finder combo.

So, using the Bullseye with a nail is a little cumbersome.

5.0 out of 5 stars On The Straight and Narrow!!, March 22, 2004

I bought this to use around the house for various things and I am pretty impressed so far. Before I even attemted to use it, I double checked it's plumb and level accuracy with a plumb bob and a Stabila 72" level ($120)...It was dead on!!! Overall it is a great tool to have in the toolbox if your an avid DIYrrr like me. Some of the things I have used it for: Squaring up stud walls, Hanging cabinets, Hanging pictures and Chair rail, Making layout marks for floor tiles and even squaring up the foundation walls for a shed I built!! It makes building things a fun and joyfull experience, I can't wait to use it again!! (Just make sure that you check it for accuracy before you initally use it!!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Best laser level for your money!, January 18, 2006
This review is from: Black & Decker BDL400S Bullseye Crosshair 90-Degree Auto Leveling Interior Line Laser (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is the best laser level I've used. It's so simple to operate, just make a dot where you want your level line. Push the plastic hanger with nail (comes with the level) into the wall and hang the level from the temporary hanger. Voila! A level line precisely where you made your dot.
If you read and follow the directions, you can't go wrong.

2.0 out of 5 stars Only works in one direction, April 14, 2006
This review is from: Black & Decker BDL400S Bullseye Crosshair 90-Degree Auto Leveling Interior Line Laser (Tools & Home Improvement)
This tool shines beams at right angles. When using the self leveling hanger the beam only shines one beam up and one beam to the right. Difficult if you want a beam to the left. Also the self leveling hanger has a sharp pin that is easy to break off and difficult to replace.

I bought this to hang new shelves in all my closets. It was a great time saver and made the job much easier. This is a pretty simple device to use and works great in drywall. My only complaint is the level line fades a bit over distance along the wall at times.
Nice tool, though. I hope to be using it again on future projects. I would imagine it would be great for a new house.

I'm an amateur do-it-yourselfer who does not want to spend a lot of money on tools. I used this for simple projects, such as installing shelves, and it worked very nicely -- especially considering the low price. I am very pleased.

I purchased this for myself, because my husband keeps the smaller B&D leveler hostage. Whilst, it is a nice leveler, I never expected it to be so big! I know my husband will steal this one and give me the smaller one (mission accomplished!)

3.0 out of 5 stars just what I was looking for!, May 2, 2005

This review is from: Black & Decker BDL400S Bullseye Crosshair 90-Degree Auto Leveling Interior Line Laser (Tools & Home Improvement)
This unit replaces an earlier B&D laser level with stud finder that lasted all of just a year, which doesn't surprise me---Black and Decker is generally not great quality, especially their power tools.

However since there is nothing else on the market (at least nothing I could find) which provides the same function in this price range, I am biting the bullet and getting another one.

I'm just happy that this model at least doesn't pretend to be a Stud Finder too like the other one did---it couldn't find a stud to save its life. Totally useless marketing gimmick, that.

Oh well, until somebody else comes out with a laser self-leveler like this in the same price range I guess I'll just have to put up with B&D ("Broken and Disabled" in some circles).
