The Marksman emits sound waves that bounce off walls or ceilings and back to the unit as it measures distance. A pivoting head makes it easy to take measurements from many different positions--a great feature for work in tight areas. A selectable display shows measurements, and a memory chip stores measurements so there’s no searching for pen and pad or trying to remember all those numbers. To estimate room area, just point and click at two walls. Estimating the volume of a room is easy, too. Simply point and click, first at the ceiling and then at two walls. A calculator feature lets you calculate and store square feet, volume and room depth for easy reference. The Marksman displays in either metric or standard measurements. Ibought this for my brother who's an electrician. He needed a tape measure that would not be flimsy. He loves this. He has thanked me a number of times for it as it's helped him out a lot. It makes his job so much easier.

Its accuracy is poor. You will never know what the true distance is to the laser dot until you either use a tape measure or a true laser measurer. The thing picks up all sorts of obstacles near the path to the laser dot and so you almost never get the same measurement twice. For all I know it may work well outdoors to an unencumbered target, but indoors around clutter it stinks. Save your money for a true laser measurer.
