4.0 out of 5 stars Love the EZ Twist Paint Stick!
Have used mine several times without incident. No paint running down handle at all and the roller covers worked great. Love not having to go back and forth to a paint pan and the mess that involves. Painting is much faster than traditional methods. my walls look fantastic. Would DEFINITELY buy this again!

2.0 out of 5 stars long cleanup time
This product may have saved me some time in actual painting, but the cleanup was very messy and took much of my time savings away. I had difficulties getting the pieces apart during the cleanup and when they came apart, paint went everywhere. Also, paint kept coming out of places I just could not get to and I am wondering how well this will work the second or third time...

2.0 out of 5 stars long cleanup time, October 20, 2007

This product may have saved me some time in actual painting, but the cleanup was very messy and took much of my time savings away. I had difficulties getting the pieces apart during the cleanup and when they came apart, paint went everywhere. Also, paint kept coming out of places I just could not get to and I am wondering how well this will work the second or third time. One other criticism is that the mechanism to pull the paint from the can kept slipping in the can making it very difficult on refills (which are often.).

4.0 out of 5 stars Paint Stick Works, July 7, 2008
This review is from: Black & Decker C800660 EZ Twist Stick (Tools & Home Improvement)
Just wanted to add my experiences w/ this product to the mix. It does exactly what it advertises. Easy to assemble, was a bit tricky to get load the hanndle w/ paint the first time. Once you adjust the angle of the stick to 45 deg as per the instructions sucks up paint like a charm. The twist function lets you control the amount of paint in your roller incredibly well. No more over or under painted spots. Initially skeptical, my wife was later amazed at how fast 3 walls could be painted. As for clean up, it is a bit tedious 15-20 minutes but well worth the time savings on the painting. 3 walls took about 20 minutes after taping and edging. Also the cleaning is quite straight forward all u do is use the plunger action of the stick to suck water into the handle which then flushes out the paint. Its like cleaning a long turkey baster. What is true is that the stick won't ever be as clean as when u bought it, but this won't affect any future painting projects.

Great product.

2.0 out of 5 stars NOT so EZ Twist Stick, January 3, 2009
This review is from: Black & Decker C800660 EZ Twist Stick (Tools & Home Improvement)
I was disappointed with the Black & Decker EZ Twist Paint Stick -- It took 1 1/2 "fills" just to prime the roller. Also had to refill the paint stick approximately the same number of times needed to refill a standard paint roller for the same-sized wall. The paint stick might be easier on an 8-foot ceiling--would not have to go up & down a ladder (not any easier on my 10-foot ceilings).HOMERIGHT C800660 PAINTSTICK EZ-TWIST BLACK&DECKER

Exactly as described the first 1-2 times you use. After that, forget it...typical of Sears products. Very messy and time consuming to clean. The latest debacle is that paint leaks out of the fill port on the stick. The "troubleshooting" section of directions: If paint leaks out of fill port, replace valve kit for fill port. Well..how helpful that is! So the time saved on the first two rooms painted has just been eclipsed by the time investment to get back to sears, hope they have the replacement part...etc...FORGET IT....JUST DO IT MANUALLY LIKE WE ALWAYS HAVE

1.0 out of 5 stars RUN DON'T WALK AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!, August 24, 2011
This review is from: Black & Decker C800660 EZ Twist Stick (Tools & Home Improvement)
I loved the product UNTIL it came to clean up. The end cap DOES NOT come off easily. After numerous attempts, the edge started to chip away, and my hand slipped and my thumb got jammed onto a broken edge. While I got replacement parts to fix the end cap (called a tune up kit)and clean up is not that simple. You can't properly clean inside the tube where the paint goes. I went a bought a similar item made by WAGNER! This item has parts that screw on/off or pop on or off, and an attachment for your sink/hose to wash the roller where you slide the roller up and down while the water runs through and cleans the roller. To clean the paint tube, the bottom screws off so you have 2 open ends. Filling up the Black & Decker stick I had to "suck" the paint into the tube, the Wagner I got uses battery power to fill the tube and then disperse the paint. Over all the WAGNER does a BETTER JOB than the Black & Decker. I paid $43 incl. tax for the Wagner but the extra $$$ is worth it! As I said RUN don't walk away from Black & Decker...RUN don't walk to Wagner

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product unless they've cheapened it, November 28, 2010
This review is from: Black & Decker C800660 EZ Twist Stick (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought the complete kit from a HomeRight infomercial around 2002. I hadn't painted in years but remembered the edges/corners being much faster than the walls. I had the quickpainter since it came in the kit, but didn't think it was necessary. I used a brush for the 1st coat. After all the paint drips and a gazillion times up and down the ladder, I broke out the quickpainter for the 2nd coat. It was much, much faster and used much less paint. Painting the walls with the paintstick also went faster than painting the edges with a brush. I don't paint often, but I won't consider it without the paintstick and quickpainter.

I painted two accent walls in 2008 and it came through like a champ again; the only issue was lint from the cover (see below). I'm doing a project this weekend (2 rooms) so I'm online to order more rollers for future projects. I bought a new B&D paintstick in 2008 just in case it was discontinued. Hopefully, it will perform and hold up better than some have reported. Here are my recommendations for success with the paintstick.

1) Use tape to remove loose threads from roller cover. If possible, use a new cover for each project instead of storing a used one for long periods. The time saved using a paintstick is worth the $6 cover.

2) Remove all the paint in the handle (reverse the process to put it back in the can) and clean immediately after use. Clean up is easier and faster and paint won't harden and clog anything.

3) Buy the roller cover cleaner. Bad choice for them to sell the paintstick without the cleaner; likely the reason for complaints about cleaning time.

4) Don't overfill the paintstick and gradually increase pressure on the quickpainter. This is the only reason I can think of the paintstick leaking down the handle. The quickpainter will make a mess if you press until you see enough paint. Test it a few times on newspaper first.

5) Buy the quickpainter and use the spatter guard. Must use everything to get the full benefit of this system vs. painting with brushes and regular rollers.

6) Separate the fill tube from the can cover after each use. Storing assembled will damage the can cover.

This thing does save you a lot of time painting, but it is a much longer clean up process than a standard roller, especially if you do it as the directions state. Of course, I never clean a roller -- I would rather just toss them then bother with it. It was very nice not having to fill the roller brush all the time. I didn't have any problems with leaking or getting the paint started, but I will say that you do have to put quite a bit of pressure on it when the handle is all the way out. I am five feet tall, and generally find all rollers with extension handles akward to use. My suggestion would be to paint with a buddy -- so you can take turns using this thing. Do not break this thing out for small jobs -- the clean up time isn't worth it. Overall, you are going to save time painting but spend some of that time cleaning. I guess it depends on what you would rather do.

2.0 out of 5 stars The roller pops off!, May 17, 2010
By
This review is from: Black & Decker C800660 EZ Twist Stick (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have used paint sticks in the past with great results. Sure the cleanup is a little more involved than with the standard roller but the painting goes quicker and cleaner. Buy the standard paint stick and not the EZ Twist. The EZ Twist has a locking endcap that leaks, becomes loose and the roller starts popping off. What a mess! I took the EZ Twist back to the store for a refund. I went to Sears and luckily they had the standard paint stick available. Sometimes you get what you pay for but sometimes you get something fancier that actually doesn't work as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved It!, January 9, 2010
By
This review is from: Black & Decker C800660 EZ Twist Stick (Tools & Home Improvement)
This product was recommended by a friend. He warned of the clean up ahead of the purchase. That didn't deter me. I purchased two at the onset. I also purchased the tune up kit (haven't needed it yet). I am not a professional painter but I got better than professional results with this item. No splatter, drips, and it comes with excellent instruction manual. I liked the product so much I'm going to get two more. They'll be held in reserve for future repair/replacements parts. Drip pan flimsy and fell off during painting; but I found it wasn't really needed. Disappointed the roller covers aren't readily available at my local hardware store. I have a friend who is a professional painting contractor that wouldn't touch an item like this because of the clean up time. I understand that for a person who paints for a living. I don't think this was designed for a pro but it was designed for professional results. I also noticed that even though it took a lot of paint to prime the roller I had more paint left in the can after each job. If you hate painting (and I do)and the mess it creates this is the product for you! Clean up was fine. I took everything apart the would unscrew, popout, etc and rinsed really good. Put vaseline back on the plunger(inner tube), allowed it to dry and it was ready for the next room. The price was great too because it was on sale! Buy it, try it, you might love it too!
