5.0 out of 5 stars Good, Reliable Shredder - Doesn't Jam, August 20, 2009

I am very hard on my shredders. I have gone through several over the past couple of years. My major complaints with previous shredders are they are noisy and regularly jam. Why shouldn't I be able to put staples, paperclips, credit cards, and CDs through my shredder? All previous shredders have often failed at these tasks, until I got my Black & Decker 15 sheeter (model CC1500). So far, it has taken everything I have given it and asked for more. It also operates nice and quietly (from what I understand, because of the "induction" motor). I used to have a roommate who thought I was drilling something and would complain, but I was actually just using my shredder. Luckily, I don't have that roommate anymore, but also I don't have the problem of a noisy shredder. The shredder also has a sleek design and a large bin for storing all those shreddings. I am a bit lazy, so don't like to have to empty my shredder on a regular basis. Overall, I am very happy with my shredder and would recommend it to friends, family, and anyone else looking for a good, reliable shredder.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Design for a small office shredder, June 16, 2010

I have used this product in my small office for about six months. I intend to replace it at my first opportunity.

Black & Decker has designed a shredder with a quiet, powerful motor and moderately heavy-duty cutters, but they obviously fell far short in the overall design of this product. The waste container is the most poorly designed one that I have seen on any shredder. For a unit as tall as the CC1500 the waste container is surprisingly small and the cuttings pile up in such a way that the motor cuts off automatically, indicating a full basket, when the basket is only about half full. The user must continually stop to press the cuttings down in the waste basket or to empty the basket completely. Most users would prefer to use a plastic liner in the basket to make emptying the unit quick and tidy; not on this shredder! The interior of the basket is full of jutting sharp edges that cut long holes in any liner that is pulled out of the basket. Attempting to dump a full basket with no liner is equally frustrating because of the basket's front end which extends quite far above the rest of the basket edge, causing shards of shredded paper to fly all over the place. In all, it's a supremely messy exercise to empty the basket and it has to be done frequently.

The other shortcoming of this shredder is also true of most shredders in its category: the cuttings are too large and uniform to be of much real security. At about 1/4-inch by 1 and 1/4 inches, the cuttings are far too large. True, it would take some time to do it, but anyone who has ever put a jigsaw puzzle together could easily reconstruct a document that has been put through this machine. Those who have worked in a truly secure environment will readily recognize its shortcomings as a security device. If all you want to shred are credit card offers and junk mail, it is probably adequate; for sensitive material it is not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard Core for a great price, December 22, 2010

This review is from: Black & Decker CC1500 15 sheet crosscutpaper shredder with heavy duty induction motor graphite (Office Product)
Just received a credit card application from Discover Card, the worst company ever. Without hesitation, I put the entire envelope in this heavy duty shredder. Gears grind away slowly. I hear that deep, low hum of a rough and rugged piece of equipment working. That motor is reminiscent of a tough diesel engine - so cool. I will be shredding everything I can get my hands on... This is a great heavy duty shredder for the price.
There is one opportunity for improvement. The basket comes out a little sloppy. It would be better if it were more hinged at the bottom and just tilted securely into place. The basket kind of lifts and slides today.

Oh, you know those plastic hotel room keys. I just shredded 5 of them at once. No hestitation at all with this Black & Decker shredder.

Needed a very heavy duty shredder for small office. This is the best of three that have been bought in the past couple of years. It does more before getting heated. Needs to be opened and have shedding redistributed so as not to seem full already.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good shredding, but, poor basket design, May 31, 2010
This review is from: Black & Decker CC1500 15 sheet crosscutpaper shredder with heavy duty induction motor graphite (Office Product)
The good:

1. Very effective shredder. Shreds and shreds and doesn't heat. I've gone for about an hour and it still keeps going.
2. Works great with paper, clips, staples, dvds etc. Nothing has jammed this shredder.

The bad:

1. The waste basket is very poorly designed. Every time I try to remove paper, I always end up dropping paper pieces on the floor. The problem is that one side is really high and it's really hard to invert the basket into the garbage without creating a mess.
2. The basket size is small for a shredder this size. I need to keep shaking it since the shredded paper piles on the center and touches the blade when the sides of the basket are empty.
2. If i put more than 16 pages at a time, it jams. I understand it's expected, but, the smaller black and decker models (8 sheet) have a power boost option that give it an extra bit of power when you accidently put in more than the allowed pages. I wish this shredder had the same option.

Overall, although the shredder is good, I'm dissapointed with the basket design, and wouldnt recommend this product if you're spending close to 200$. I would instead go with a fellowes shredder which is as effective and has a better basket design.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best shredder we have had so far, April 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Black & Decker CC1500 15 sheet crosscutpaper shredder with heavy duty induction motor graphite (Office Product)
The Black & Decker CC1500 Shredder is of very good construction. The error messages are easy to understand. The basket is easy to empty. We have had shredders before that we had to lift the motor off of the basket in order to empty the shredded paper. This unit has a self contained motor with a basket that slides out the front to be emptied. I think this shredder will be a long lasting shredder instead of the cheaper ones we had that only lasted a short time. The shredded paper is in small enough pieces that we feel secure in knowing the confidentiality of out patients is safe. My only complaint was that the instruction book needs a little more information. We had difficulty getting started. The on/off switch is reversed from the way we thought and we had to call the hotline for assistance. The gentleman on the hotline was very helpful. He spoke clearly and could be easily understood. He went through the startup routine with us and we were able to get started with no further assistance. There is no liquid oil with this shredder. Individually wrapped shredder lubricant sheets take care of the lubrication. Use one sheet every month to 6 weeks. We like this a lot better than trying to put liquid oil in the shredder. We have been very pleased and are glad to have purchased this shredder. I would recommend it very highly.

Overall looks and quality o.k.
On/off switch seems cheap.
Bin capacity is lacking.
Bin gets half full and safety switch
shuts machine off. You have to empty it
way too often.
15 sheet shred capacity is a bit of a stretch.

3.0 out of 5 stars Needs to be redesigned, December 25, 2011

It is difficult to rate this item because I used it only one day before getting permission from Homedics to return it. The switch that activates the shredder was so sensitive I could shred only a few pages at a time before the shredder stopped. It is now almost a month since I returned the item and I have yet to receive the replacement.

3.0 out of 5 stars Shredder, July 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Black & Decker CC1500 15 sheet crosscutpaper shredder with heavy duty induction motor graphite (Office Product)
So I recently purchased this shredder so that I can shred some old documents (duh :)).

Right off the bat after I shredded a few pieces of paper I looked at the cut up pieces of paper in the bin. At first I thought it was just a straight cut and not a cross cut; however, I was informed that it is a cross cut like I thought. I was expecting a diamond-cut (shaped) cross cut since that was what my old shredder was but it's not....oh well not a big deal.

The shredder is quiet; a lot quieter than my old one.

It shreds well although really haven't tested the ability to do 15 sheets at once (my old shredder got busted because a friend just stuffed tons of letters/papers in it so I'm somewhat leering of doing that).

I was looking for a shredder to buy that I didn't need to remove staples but...it looks like this one can't do staples (it has a circled-out paper clip symbol so I assume it can't do staples).

The biggest annoyance is the bin; it gets "full" to the sensor too fast/easily. I have to keep emptying it out/etc...a small bin. It's not the end of the world since I'm now done with 100% of my shredding that I needed to do (the main reason/project I bought it for) but...if you wanted to just shred tons of paper without emptying the bin out; maybe look elsewhere.

I have had this about 3 months and I think it works well. I have yet to have a jam. I has an easy time shredding paper, credit cards, or DVD's. When I first bought it I shredded two reams of paper and only had to stop to empty the basket. I paid $150 for it.
