Florida Girl with Citrus Trees Approved!,
By Florida Girl "ajwo" (West Palm Beach, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Black & Decker CJ525 CitrusMate Plus Citrus Juicer (Kitchen)
This juicer is awesome. It is light and small in size which makes it not only easy to store but makes me willing use it all the time - no dread of lugging out some huge, heavy contraption. I live in South Florida and have a yard full of grapefruit, orange and key lime trees - this juicer does them all like a champ. With the two sizes of the juicing cone, one juicer takes care of all of my citrus. The strainer pops apart very easily and is a snap to clean with running water alone! You do not need to apply much pressure when using the juicer which allows you to juice many fruit in a row since your arm doesn't get tired. I love the adjustable pulp strainer - my husband likes lots of pulp, I like a little, and some friends just like the juice alone - no problem with this little workhorse. I also love that it gets all the juice out of the fruit - the fruit is dry after going on top of this machine! The juice flows right into the pitcher which makes it perfect for pouring right into your glass or into any other container - pitchers, plastic zip top bags, etc. I had looked and looked for a good juicer and most were expensive, bulky, hard to clean, etc. but not this great machine. I was skeptical since it is so cheap, but thought, "Well, what do I have to lose since I'm not spending much on it?" - now I'm in love with it. I'm such a fan that I just bought a second one to take to our vacation house!

wonderfully easy to use,

most other juicers will tire out your wrists long before you have enough juice for a cup, but not this one. using it couldn't be easier- cut the oranges in half, hold one half over the top, and it spins around, and your juice ends up in the little pitcher on the bottom. when you have enough (it has handy markings on the sides of the pitcher for measuring), twist off the pitcher & pour it out. because the motor is in the seperate base that doesn't get any juice on it, washing it is super easy- just pop off the juicer piece, the pulp straining top, and the pitcher and wash them in your dishwasher or sink.

I was in the appliance section of the store and I was trying to decide between the citrusmate and one that was only 5 dollars cheaper.
And then I saw that the CitrusMate has a separate smaller cone for lemons and lime, and since I was buying this thing to make my life a little bit easier while on the Master Cleanse diet/fast (a lemon and water concoction for 14 days), it was a given. This is my first juicer, so I don't have a comparison for you, sorry, but I can definitely recommend it as an appliance just by itself. Very efficient in shredding the citrus fruit! It rotates both ways, to get the juice out efficiently. And the clean-up is a breeze. After this lemonade fast is over, my diet will only be water and juice as far as beverages go, and this thing will be so much easier to use than my Jack la lanne juicing machine, when I just simply want a glass of fresh orange juice!

OK. For two years I used that Cuisinart citrus juicer -- the stainless steel model that looks good on your shelf but turns out to be the Worst Product Ever if you ever actually try to use it. For more details on why that juicer was terrible, feel free to check out my review -- it was a true symphony of atrocious product design. Suffice it to say I was actually very happy when I accidentally dropped the Cuisinart juicer on the floor and it started making a horrible grinding noise, giving me the perfect excuse to buy this one instead.
It made me so very happy to use this one for the first time, because: * You can use it with one hand and it doesn't try to walk across the counter! * It doesn't have a spout, so it can't drip juice all over the counter! * It has a built-in pitcher, so you don't have to waste a glass! * It has two cones, one for oranges and a smaller one for lemons! * It has a piece of plastic attached to the bottom cone that moves the pulp around in the pulp tray to get more juice out of it! Only thing I wish is that they had put cup measurements on the pitcher (they have ounces, though). The pulp strainer is a little gimmicky -- but then I usually strain my juice again with a mesh strainer before I use it in a recipe, so I don't mind. The whole thing is plastic and felt a little lightweight, but it works really well. If you don't have a juicer and wonder if you really need one when you can just use a reamer or a citrus squeezer, all I can say is having a citrus juicer makes citrus desserts like key lime pie and lemon cheesecake seem far more feasible, and it's kind of fun to juice things anyway. This also does a better job than my hand strength can do on one of those press-type squeezers. And it's only fifteen bucks. Works for me. I chucked the Cuisinart model in the trash...good riddance. Thank you, Black & Decker, for making an appliance you clearly actually tested in real world situations.

A nice toy but when you try to make orange or grapefruit juice and push down a little, the engine seizes and stops. You have to be very gentle using this underpowered machine. A little more pressure and it just stops in your hands. I am off to look for something with a bit more power. Nice design but weak delivery!

My partner and I juice oranges and small red gratefruit daily for breakfast, and this juicer works great for about 2-3 weeks, until which time the motor either burns up or the plastic gears strip out. We've had 6 of these, and the last one just stripped out this morning. Black and Decker outlet stores are very nice about replacing them, but I'm tired of it, so I came on line to search for better products today, which is what prompted this review. Too bad, because if it was constructed a little better, it would be a great compact juicer. Cheers, Gary

great, but not perfect,

Bought this as a first citrus juicer and have been quite happy with it. Extracts pretty much all juice, is powerful and very easy to use - also light and easy to store. Problems I found? Not enough pulp makes it into the juice and strainer is hard to clean unless you do so RIGHT after juicing. And sadly, because it is just plastic, ours is now cracked and handle is broken. We're looking for a heavy duty replacement. Still, a great buy, especially for the price!

Received this juicer in 2006 and didn't want to rate it right away as it was in my "testing stage" and it has passed with flying colors. It has 3 settings for thickness of the juice and if you like pulp like I do, it is the greatest. I was concerned about the juicer thoroughly cleaning out the fruit and no problem here either. Always concerned about motor strain but even to this date and almost a year later, it is running with precision and there doesn't seem to be any strain when juicing however I wouldn't press down too hard on the fruit as this little motor can only take so much. Recommend highly and you won't be disappointed!!

I love this juicer,

I have had one of these juicers for over five years and love it. I live in Florida and have two orange trees, one Tangelo, one lemon and one grapefruit tree. This juicer easily handles fruit from any and all of these trees. My grandsons, ages nine and three years, love to use it to make their own juice when they visit. My son recently purchased another brand which appeared similar but tells me it doesn't work as well as my Black & Decker so I am currently looking for one for him. I've given several as housewarming gifts to friends who have moved to Florida. There are no negatives to this juicer.
