4.0 out of 5 stars Just right for a cuppa
Having had two electric tea kettles break within a month, I went shopping for a new one. Of the three brands I looked at in the department store, including this one, all were manufactured in China. However, I haven't regretted my choice. It's a bit slow coming to the boil when full, and the button knob on the lid is rather small, but aside from those niggles, this is a...

3.0 out of 5 stars This WAS the kette I've been looking for
4 years ago I gave this pot 5 stars and loved it. My mom is nearly blind and I got it for her. We've had the pot 4 years and it has started to leak at the bottom as described in other reviews, so I ammend my rating to 3 stars. It was a great pot for 4 years but I have now decided to go with the Hamilton Beach one and see how long it lasts. But in all fairness, this pot...

4.0 out of 5 stars Just right for a cuppa, October 16, 2008
Having had two electric tea kettles break within a month, I went shopping for a new one. Of the three brands I looked at in the department store, including this one, all were manufactured in China. However, I haven't regretted my choice. It's a bit slow coming to the boil when full, and the button knob on the lid is rather small, but aside from those niggles, this is a nice unit. It has a brushed steel finish and is a bit on the heavy side even when empty, but I don't see that as a disadvantage as it can't be easily knocked over and it boils up quietly.

The power is supplied to the solid round base on which the kettle sits, so there's no cord attached to the kettle itself. The element is hidden in the base of the kettle, so there's no fussing with de-scalers and the inside of the kettle is easy to clean. A removable filter sits in the spout and the handle does not get hot. There's a see-through filler window on both sides of the unit, making it suitable for left- and right-handers.

All in all, good value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars happy customer, January 9, 2009
This review is from: Black & Decker CK1500R Cordless Electric 57-1/2-Ounce Dome Kettle, Red (Kitchen)
i received this in october as a gift, and i've thoroughly enjoyed using it. this is the second electric kettle i've owned and the first made by black and decker.

unlike previous reviewers, i've had no problem filling the kettle with water. the faucet clears the rim by more than an inch.

yes, the kettle is hot to the touch. but it's stainless steel and filled with boiling water, so i didn't expect it to behave otherwise.

the lid fits firmly. i see that as a smart safety measure rather than a defect.

i haven't experienced any issues with hot steam so far. the placement of the handle is comfortable.

i have left standing water in it for several days at a time. so far, there's been no leaking out the bottom or the sides, but i am staying on the alert for it.

finally, it's really pretty. but that's just a perk.

1.0 out of 5 stars Kettle Leaks Slowly, October 23, 2008
This review is from: Black & Decker CK1500R Cordless Electric 57-1/2-Ounce Dome Kettle, Red (Kitchen)
Black & Decker CK1500R Cordless Electric 57-1/2-Ounce Dome Kettle, Red

I've had one of these B&D model CK1500R kettles for less than a year and during that time is has been used once a week or less. I recently noticed that it leaks slowly through the bottom of the kettle whenever water is left standing in it. I consider this unit very unsafe because anytime water and electricity mix the risk of electric shock is present whether the appliance is 'cordless' or not.

2.0 out of 5 stars WARNING: Kettle leaks + poor customer service, October 29, 2009
By

This review is from: Black & Decker CK1500R Cordless Electric 57-1/2-Ounce Dome Kettle, Red (Kitchen)
I was completely in love with this tea kettle. So much so that I replaced my first one immediately after my nephew mistakenly tried to heat it on the stove burners and melted the base. Its super cute and convenient, but after about 8 months of enjoyment it began to leak water from the bottom. The leak occured occasionally when I left water sitting in the pot. I tolerated it for a while, but then got tired of cleaning up the mess that it created. So I called customer service with the hopes of getting a new one. They said that I would need to cut the cord and mail the plug to them in a padded envelope (certified mail), plus pay a $7.50 shipping and handling fee for the new one that they would send to me. How unfair! Im so disappointed in this company. It's their fault that the product is defective. They have some nerve asking us to pay shipping and handling.
I thought that I just happened to get a defective kettle...especially since I didn't have any problems with my first one, but now that I've read other reviews I see that the product itself is defective. DO NOT BUY THIS KETTLE

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Kettle Ever!, April 21, 2009
By

I absolutely love my Black & Decker electric kettle! It boils water fast and i love that it has an auto shut off.

Others have stated that they smelled something "off" with the kettle and boiled water tasted funny - apart from the first couple of times using the kettle, i have not smelled anything unusual (and i attribute that to the newness of the kettle and that's all) and i have never ever tasted anything off in my tea.

i have used this kettle every day (sometimes multiple times a day) for the last 6 months. always does a great job and i've noticed that it doesn't take much longer to boil a full pot of water than it does when it's barely full.

highly recommended product!

Bought this item new and about two months later it started to drip from the water window. Not a good buy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Warning, mystery leaks appear!, December 8, 2009

I bought this kettle a little over a year ago because I loved the cordless feature and the great looks. While it is a cute kettle, within 6 months tiny puddles of water would appear underneath the kettle. Now it has become a real problem, some mornings I will find a huge mess on my counter. What is most maddening about it is the leaking is random. Some days it leaks and others it doesn't. I was hopeful that my experience was due to a bad kettle and not a design flaw. However, after reading review after review here I see that this kettle has leak issues that tend to appear towards the end of the product warranty. Since mine is past the 1 year mark I wasted my money when I bought this kettle, worse is it wasn't cheap! Who wants to spend $40 a year for a new kettle?

Summary: I was drawn in by the good looks of this kettle but it is ridiculous that a product designed to work with water and electricity leaks after a short time presenting a safety hazard. Spend your money elsewhere!

3.0 out of 5 stars leaks a little, May 11, 2009
Black & Decker CK1500 Cordless Electric 57-1/2-Ounce Dome Kettle, Brushed StainlessI wanted a kettle that kept the water hot, this does not, but does heat fairly fast. If you tip the kettle with the spout up it leaks from the back a few drops..just keep it level. The price was fine and it looks good.

The kettle has a nice form factor and worked fine but developed a leak by the glass window after about six months. Our friends have the same kettle with the same problem. We are now shopping for a replacement.
