4.0 out of 5 stars Tall can opener review
I recently purchased the Black & Decker Grand Openings II Extra Tall Can Opener in black to coordinate better with a new countertop that I just had installed. It is very similar to a Black & Decker white tall can opener that I had been using, which I loved. The black can opener runs well and smoothly. My only complaint is when opening a can that has a lot of liquid in it,...

This can opener is attractive and very functional except for one very annoying problem. The lever that punctures the lid and holds it in removes very easily for cleaning. However, it removes a little too easily. In fact, it's almost impossible to remove the opened can from the opener without removing the lever assembly also. That means that the lever (and magnetically attached lid) falls into the can or worse on your countertop. It's also a bit of a trick to get the can lined up just right to puncture the lid and open the can.

1.0 out of 5 stars A waste of money., August 18, 2007
This review is from: Black & Decker CO1200B Grand Openings II Extra-Tall Electric Can Opener, Black (Kitchen)
I curse this every time I try to use it. It's true that it takes several attempts to get the can lined up properly so it will work. It is much faster to use a hand-held opener.

Once the can is lined up and it is working, it not only opens the can, but it always takes a thin layer of paper off the can. When I take my can off the opener, I always have to pick little shreds of paper out of the product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst can opener I've ever owned., March 24, 2007

This review is from: Black & Decker CO1200B Grand Openings II Extra-Tall Electric Can Opener, Black (Kitchen)
This with a doubt one of the worst can openers I've ever
owned!! I bought it because it is attractive and will
accept tall cans. It is attractive, but not very
functional. It is so very difficult to get the can
positioned just right, so it will open, that it takes
5 or 6 tries just to get it to work. The "lid catcher"
blocks your view of the mechanism so it's almost
impossible to position the can properly. In addition
when removing the can, the cutting arm mechanism slides
off the opener most of the time.

Don't but this poorly designed product!!!

I recently purchased the Black & Decker Grand Openings II Extra Tall Can Opener in black to coordinate better with a new countertop that I just had installed. It is very similar to a Black & Decker white tall can opener that I had been using, which I loved. The black can opener runs well and smoothly. My only complaint is when opening a can that has a lot of liquid in it, the liquid splashes out when the can opener stops. This happened to me when I was opening some cans of minced clams and I had clam juice all over my counter. This didn't happen with my old can opener. Otherwise, I like the new can opener.

1.0 out of 5 stars B%D GRAND OPENINGS CAN OPENER, September 30, 2007

Worked fine for about six months, then failed to open anything. Always struggled with coffee cans. I don't know, is six months a decent run?

2.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this can opener., April 4, 2007

Within the first week of operation, this can opener acted up.It wouldn't start running, and then it wouldn't stop running unless you unplugged it.It was very disappointing and frustrating.Besides, with the cost of shipping, you're paying almost as much for it as you would be for a better one.Don't settle.

I have detested this piece of crap since I bought it. Buy Black and Decker at your own risk, and only if you love frustration. Trying to open a can with this badly engineered monstrosity is virtually impossible. You cannot do worse.

Short of a rechargeable internal battery, it has everything I expect inn a can opener and them some. The knife sharpener is a handy bonus that most don't have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kitchen hands helper, August 30, 2007
This review is from: Black & Decker CO1200B Grand Openings II Extra-Tall Electric Can Opener, Black (Kitchen)
This can opener is great to have in the kitchen. When there are several cans to open to fix a neal or special dishes, and the recipie calls for ingredients that come from cans, this device will make preparation easier, rather than using the figer twisting, callous raising hand job.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broken can opener, January 22, 2012

This review is from: Black & Decker CO1200B Grand Openings II Extra-Tall Electric Can Opener, Black (Kitchen)
Black & Decker CO1200B Grand Openings II Extra-Tall Electric Can Opener, Black.

I had this can opener before and I was very happy with it, so when my old one finally broke I bought the exact same one. I should have tried it out right away to make sure it worked but I did not so when I finally did use it a week later I had already thrown away the box so now I have a brand new can opener that does not work, it does not open cans at all. So make sure you check it out before you throw the packaging away.
