Amazon.com Product Description

The Black and Decker 9-inch 12-volt cordless string trimmer and edger is a lightweight (7 pound), powerful and easy-to-use cordless string trimmer and edger. It features a 9-inch cutting width and features the exclusive Automatic Feed Spool (AFS) system that automatically advances the cutting string as need using centrifugal force, so no bumping is required. This cordless string trimmer has a powerful 12-Volt battery that works with a gear-driven motor to allow you to easily power through heavy weeds, grass, and overgrowth. The battery is rechargeable, gives you plenty of run-time per charge, and comes with a wall-mounted charger for convenient overnight charging. This cordless trimmer/edger is very quiet, effortless to start, and requires no gas, oil or tune-ups. The Groom'N'Edge head rotates 180 degrees to convert the trimmer to an edger and back again in a matter of seconds. Used as an edger, the flip-down edge guide assists with edging along sidewalks and driveways. A secondary handle adjusts for increased comfort and control. 1.0 out of 5 stars 2 strikes and I'm done!, June 1, 2006
This review is from: Black & Decker CST1100 9-Inch 12-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer and Edger (Lawn & Patio)
I bought and returned 2 of these trimmers. The first one was used all of 5 minutes when the part that is supposed to rotate the string stopped spinning..the motor was still going full speed - the string head just wasn't spinning so I exchanged it. I used the 2nd unit twice. Both times the battery power depleted to next to nothing within 10-15 minutes - this after being on the charger OVER 24 hours! I called the B&D 800 number and was told the expected battery time for this unit was 15-20 minutes (which is not mentioned anywhere in the owner's manual or on the B&D website). I do not have a huge yard but I could barely get it finished before the battery died. I ended up taking the 2nd unit back last night and am going to get the Toro 8" cordless trimmer. It doesn't have the edger feature but I know a few people that have it and love it - plus the battery life is 45 minutes - more than twice as much as the B&D.

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk, August 6, 2006
This review is from: Black & Decker CST1100 9-Inch 12-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer and Edger (Lawn & Patio)
I just purchased this Black & Decker Cordless Trimmer and will be returning it tomorrow. When you see the B&D name, one would expect a piece of decent equipment. But this trimmer is a useless hunk of garbage.

I agree with everyone else on here regarding the trimmer's battery: its pathetic. You can charge it up over night, or for two weeks for that matter, and you only get 10 minutes of cutting time. What can you actually accomplish in 10 minutes? Maybe if you have an eight foot square yard this trimmer would be great. And, as someone else here stated, it tells you nowhere on the package or manual how long the battery's charge will last. This is absolutely unacceptable from a company such as B&D.

This trimmer is worthless. DO NOT BUY IT. It cuts well enough but it will take you a week of cutting/recharging/cutting ad nauseum to get your yard done... just in time to start trimming it all over again. Worthless. I'll be buying a Toro and letting B&D know how unsatisfied I am.

2.0 out of 5 stars Line doesn't feed in edger mode, June 24, 2007
This review is from: Black & Decker CST1100 9-Inch 12-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer and Edger (Lawn & Patio)
I bought this because our local supercenter store only had 3 to pick from (I live and a very small town) and this seemed to be the easiest to use and it was a B&D. B&D is supposed to be good, right? WRONG!!
I didn't have too much of a problem with the battery lasting very long...I'd weedeat for awhile and then mow or pull weeds or something else while it was charging.
Well, once I started trying to edge it was all over!! The line doesn't feed when you're edging!! I had to constantly stop and pull the line out...heck, might as well be doing this by hand!!! Edge a foot, turn it upside down and pull line out, edge another foot, well, you see where I'm going.
I didn't realize how bad it was until 4 months after I bought it as I had just bought a new [older} home and it had been empty for awhile and I started working on the yard in earnest. You guessed it...warranty expired and store wouldn't take it back...it looked "too used."
So, I'm stuck with it. I use it to edge but just turn it sideways while its in weedeater mode....which kicks up gravel or chunks of dirt or whatever.
That's it for me...no more B&D.
