5.0 out of 5 stars Best Cordless
This is by far the best string trimmer I have ever owned. You just don't have to fuss with the string. It is completely automatic, no bumping to adjust. I have been pleasantly surprised by the amount of work that can be done with one charge. The battery holds its' charge for a long time between uses, unlike most of my other cordless tools. 3.0 out of 5 stars The CST1200 trimmer is good for low intensity work
The CST1200 was basically hassle-free and gave no problems for about 11 months.
However, note that it is for reasonably light work; the design DID NOT include a telescoping shaft!; The Automatic Feed Spool system did not always feed the string as designed and I sometimes had to extend it by manually; The battery is not "user" replaceable; Initially the charge only...

Most string trimmers I have previously owned were very fussy and always seemed to be in need of adjustment. I have owned this trimmer for six months and it has worked flawlessly

3.0 out of 5 stars The CST1200 trimmer is good for low intensity work, September 8, 2009
This review is from: Black & Decker CST1200 12-Volt 10-Inch Cordless Electric Trimmer/Edger (Lawn & Patio)
The CST1200 was basically hassle-free and gave no problems for about 11 months.
However, note that it is for reasonably light work; the design DID NOT include a telescoping shaft!; The Automatic Feed Spool system did not always feed the string as designed and I sometimes had to extend it by manually; The battery is not "user" replaceable; Initially the charge only allowed about 15 minutes work time increasing to about 20 minutes after a few charge cycles.
In future I will opt for a trimmer with a bit more power and a replaceable battery so when the first dies during the job you just swap it and carry on working.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed with Battery, July 25, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Black & Decker CST1200 12-Volt 10-Inch Cordless Electric Trimmer/Edger (Lawn & Patio)
I bought this to replace a similar Black and Decker unit that I had for two years before smoke started coming out and the old one burned up. The battery is important. I used it for edging primarily on the sidewalk and along the other edges along the house and yard. The previous unit I had did a great job and I could do the entire yard with one charge. I had gone to Home Depot and found they had a similar Black & Decker but when I got it home I saw it had two small batteries which meant that I would have to swap out batteries at some point during the edging, so I took that back and checked Amazon and saw this unit which looks identical to the one I had that burned up and had just one battery. I read a review which said the battery was good and lasted a long time so I bought it based on that recommendation. I can't do my entire yard because the battery's charge will not make it. So I'm having to break the yard edging job into two days or if one day, wait a couple or more hours until it charges back up. It's a pain. Not sure why my previous unit could do it with no sweat and this one won't unless it's a smaller battery. Now I've bought it and used it a few times, so I guess I'm stuck with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm STILL loving it!, July 4, 2009
This review is from: Black & Decker CST1200 12-Volt 10-Inch Cordless Electric Trimmer/Edger (Lawn & Patio)
I bought this item in May of 2002. Now it's the summer of 2009
and I'm STILL using it. That's 8 summers! It worked as good today as it did when
I used it for the first time. It trims exactly what I WANT it to
trim.. Around the house, around the 3 decks, around the RV, around
the flower beds and around several trees and bushes.
Yes.. there are other trees that there is not enough battery power
for, but by then I've had enough yard work for one day. I'm
done, anyway! I only wish one thing. That I could buy another
one when it dies..(I HOPE IT NEVER DOES!)
Oh..and I've only changed the string once in those 8 years.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good edger, horrible battery life, July 1, 2010
This review is from: Black & Decker CST1200 12-Volt 10-Inch Cordless Electric Trimmer/Edger (Lawn & Patio)
We bought this trimmer/edger 9 months ago and are in the market for a new one. The size and light weight is nice, but the battery only lasts 15-20 minutes. We have a small backyard and a tiny front yard, and we have to take breaks to let it charge in between yards. We have searched for a new battery, but it's not replaceable. We're bummed because we like the idea of cordless and it's a good size.

I purchases the same model 8 years ago and it lasted 7 years of constant use... This is the new and supposed to be a bit improved and it SUCKED! I hate it...wouldn't hold a charge after using 3 or 4 times...barely makes it to 7 minutes for one entire charge. Again, I hate it...guard broke after a while and I am so ticked off that I purchased that I slide on my bluejeans in 99 degree weather so the crap doesn't hit my legs and bruise them and I use the sucker until it dies... I WILL get my money's worth out of this stupid thing!!! I hate it and will not ever purchase this again even though I absolutely LOVED THE FIRST ONE I BOUGHT 8 YEARS AGO.

You know, I always read the reviews and several people told me not to purchase and I did...better listen to us reviewers because we are telling you the truth when something sucks!

2.0 out of 5 stars Do not purchase if you have a large area to edge, June 30, 2011
This review is from: Black & Decker CST1200 12-Volt 10-Inch Cordless Electric Trimmer/Edger (Lawn & Patio)
This would be a great product if you have very little yard to edge or trim. The power lasted about 20 minutes. It does not have much cutting power so we found ourselves cutting the same areas several times. We were not able to finish our yard work in one use which was frustrating. I returned this to the store for a more powerful model with an additional battery pack.

3.0 out of 5 stars worth the 49 dollars, June 12, 2011
This review is from: Black & Decker CST1200 12-Volt 10-Inch Cordless Electric Trimmer/Edger (Lawn & Patio)
I wanted a cheap trimmer that didn't use gas so this one was good. Before you buy it note that it only works for 20 minutes between charges. Since it says charge for 12+ hours, that means I charge it overnight and then do 20 minutes each day. That isn't enough but it works for me especially because it was so cheap. It really is only for grass. It works on weed areas too but not as well.

Hi. Adequate product for small lawns only. One speed at fixed rpm's that require multiple passes to clear weeds and grass.
Charge time is fine, worked non stop for about 15 minutes at "full" power. Fairly light and portable.....
