Black & Decker's cordless trimmer uses a .065-inch-diameter cutting line rather than a sharp blade to hack away overgrown grass with enhanced safety. The trimmer cuts an 8-inch breadth for fine pruning and includes a feed system bump to permit the line to move cleanly. To prevent unintentional start up, the trimmer includes an automatic lock-off switch. The trimmer's charger may be wall mounted for convenient trimmer storage while simultaneously recharging. The trimmer should be charged for 24 hours prior to initial use and should recharged regularly. Simple two-step assembly is required. Black & Decker offers a limited two-year warranty in the event of defective parts or construction. The trimmer weighs 6.5 pounds assembled. --Jessica Reuling

NOT a heavy duty trimmer.,

This review is from: Black & Decker CST800 8-Inch 12-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer and Edger (Lawn & Patio)
This trimmer is a little bit small, and the guard is a little small also. It is a well balanced unit and seems light enough to use, esp as a trimmer. When you turn it over to use as a edger is is a little difficult and off balance then. Also, like they said, if you beat it up against cement or rocks the line does tend to break. If you just want to trim grass and weeds, it works great for that. But if you want to dig down into the dirt to burn out the weeds or grass, then you will need a bit of patience as it will not do the heavy duty stuff as good as the corded trimmers do. They want you to leave it on the charger and the charger is made to hang on the wall. It does not tend to stay pluged in if you just lean the unit against the wall and try to plug the charger base in with out first mounting the base to the wall. But you can charge it that way if your careful to make sure that the light comes on. I plan to keep & use this unit, but I will not get rid of my corded trimmer. They both then to have their place and what they are good at.

B&D 8" String Trimmer, What a Disappointment!,
By Superfreak3 "M. Walker" (Bethlehem, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Black & Decker CST800 8-Inch 12-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer and Edger (Lawn & Patio)
Simply put, this trimmer is suited for light jobs at best. I don't consider my application heavy duty. It's just your normal yard trimming around trees, fence, sidwalk, etc.
The .060 trim line just doesn't hold up and the bump line feeder either continually jammed or didn't work at all. During the first and only use, I had to take the feeder apart roughly 6 times. The battery charge held up as I didn't loose power in the 15 minutes of actual operation time (not including repair time). It is light weight and easy to handle. Easy assembly. The unit was returned to the store after it's first use in exchange for a slightly more expensive gas trimmer. I would give this a one rating, but I'll give this trimmer the benefit of the doubt in hopes it can function in maybe a smaller setting. However, like I said, my application is not heavy-duty.

More than a few minutes of trimming time per charge!!,

This review is from: Black & Decker CST800 8-Inch 12-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer and Edger (Lawn & Patio)
I used this trimmer for the first time last night and it was GREAT!! I trimmed around my entire yard and it was still going strong! No cords or gas/oil mixtures to mess with is GREAT!!Per the owners manual, you don't have to let the charge go completely "dead" before recharging, unlike some of the other cordless trimmers. When your done just hang it back on the wall bracket/charger(it was included), and it will be ready for the next time. It does need to be charged for 24 hours before the first use, but it was worth the wait!
