I bought this coffee maker largely on the basis of the manufacturer name and its ability to program your brewing time. After having used it, I am definitely disappointed. I have experienced three problems with this coffee maker:

(1) A noticeable amount of the water you put into the reservoir is lost when the brewing cycle is heating/steaming the water. While I do expect a slight loss of water volume due primarily to saturation of the coffee grinds, this maker loses too much water (perhaps to steam that leaks out the top). For every cup of water that you put in, I'd say that you end up with (at best) 3/4 of a cup of coffee.

(2) Even though the maker generates steam, the brewed coffee is strangely not that hot. I have also used the maker to brew tea for making iced tea (I put tea bags in the carafe), and the tea always comes out weak. I am convinced it is due to the water temperature not being sufficiently hot, which in turn affects how well the tea will steep. (I have another coffee maker that I put to the same use, and my tea always comes out fine.)

(3) The shape of the carafe makes it difficult to wash by hand, since the opening is too small to comfortably accommodate a (man's) hand. If you're going to put the carafe in a dishwasher you'd probably be fine, but for those people who don't have a dishwasher, this consideration will likely prove to be bothersome.

Since there are many other coffee makers on the market, I recommend that you pass on this one.

It is a nice size, but there is no 'brew stop' when the pot is removed thus spilling everywhere. For the price it should perform better. Buy a Mr. Coffee next time.
