Very Poor Design...,
By mrsfixit (Tannersville, PA) - See all my reviews I know because I bought one yesterday locally. I am taking it back today. I haven't even used it yet, but 2 of the design features really turned me off. That food chute thing makes the lid very bulky and cumbersome and it is not removable. You have to insert a little piece of plastic which acts as a "dam" to prevent the food from coming out the chute. If you do use it- the opening where the sliced/shredded food exits is very narrow and prone to clogging. It even says it right in the manual. So, if it clogs badly, there is a little piece of plastic that you have to *unscrew* to get off so you can clean it properly. Excuse me- unscrew? This is plastic. How many times do you think you will be able to do this before the plastic breaks? One should never have to unscrew anything on an appliance to be able to take it apart for cleaning. I guess you could use a bottle brush or something to clean it without unscrewing the plastic plate, but I just want to be able to throw it in the dishwasher, not stand there at the sink fiddling with it. This device is more trouble than it's worth. I hate the food chute and will probably never use it. And having to unscrew a part- what were they thinking?

I'm stunned at all the complaints on this unit. I've had this for several years, purchased on the recommedation of a friend. I use it to slice potatoes for scalloped potatoes all the time and it works like a dream. During canning season it runs non stop. I use it to slice mountains of onions, tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and cucumbers. I use it to slice celery and to grate carrots. I use the spout to slice tomatoes before cooking down by setting the unit on an upside down dutch oven and fill a 4 gallon stock pot with tomatoes right from the chute. And I have had no problems with the chute leaking or mis-directing food. I can't imagine spending more for a food processor, when this one works as well as it does. I use it so often I have it sitting out on the counter all the time. It is a little noisey, but for as well as it works, and as inexpensive as it is, I'd say its worth dealing with a little more noise.

The tab which holds the continuous flow chute is broken,
By kumar "gsk" (ca, usa) - See all my reviews There is a tab on the side of the continuous flow chute which activates a safety switch to turn on the motor. This tab is broken. It is such an important piece in this product and this tab is just a plastic and it is now broken. Shame on black and decker. this product is now unusable.

one trick pony,
This review is from: Black & Decker 8 Cup Food Processor (Kitchen)
If you want a machine that pulverizes things, this one works alright. I can't imagine that this thing could nicely chop anything. I find the side chute to be bulky, unnecessary, and annoying. The chute hole is so thin that I can't imagine being able to dump anything out of it this way. The little plastic piece that supposedly blocks stuff from shooting out the side chute works okay until the food you're chopping gets really fine, or, heaven forbid, if you are making a liquid mixture. Liquid mixtures seem to explode out of this thing in every direction. It gets worse the more full the container gets. And the sound? It's so loud that it rattles the inside of my head. Very unpleasant. The plastic container has been slowly breaking on me lately. The handle is half broken off and the bottom plastic that fits over the plastic base of the machine is breaking off in small pieces. I thought about getting a replacement part to keep it working, but I think what I'll actually do is buy an entirely new machine. I wouldn't suggest this one to anyone!

Terrible!,
This food processor turned my potatoes to mush and it didn't do a good job chopping nuts or vegetables. The chute leaks food even though there is a guard there. Lastly, the cover/top is extremely hard to lock (and without this, you can't run the machine).

Piece of JUNK!,

This processor was a piece of garbage, which I should have known by the $11 price tag at my local Walmart. I did get my $11 worth out of it, but would be really ticked-off if I had paid full price. Don't try to process cheese, you will be better off using an old-fashoined grater. Forget about keeping up with that little white doohickey you need to insert to keep the food from flying out of the chute. My biggest problem was trying to remove the bowl from the stand which was nearly impossible every time I used it except for the last time when the handle broke off, thereby breaking the bowl. Do not pay full price for this product.

Years of use and going strong,

I have had my f.p. for 5-6 years now, and not a bit of trouble. At first the chute would plug, but then I removed the two screws and plastic piece and left out and it has worked flawlessy. It goes through about 500 lbs of cabbage a year for sauerkraut plus does all of our tomatoes and peppers for salsa, plus 75 lbs of tomatoes for Italian Spahgetti each year. Clean up is easy, everything goes into dishwasher and as far as the main unit goes, we do all of canning process outdoors so I usually use garden hose and spray the unit off outdoors and have had no problems.
I have used other family members' fp and found that I can cut and shred vegetables twice, if not three times faster then theirs with the continues chute, no stopping and removing lid, then blade, then adapter, dump out product and then reinstall everything, with this place a bowl under chute and keep feeding in the food and good to go for hours. |
