Great Iron,

I have owned this iron for almost a year. Really like it. It heats up fast and the temps for each of the fabrics actually work well for those fabrics. Good steam output and the opening to fill it with water actually lets you pour w/o it gurgling air bubles back up - something my old iron did.

Am still getting used to this iron, but so far very good product! Love the "auto shut-off" feature because I always forget to shut it off. And the shot of steam that thing puts out will amaze you. Great iron!

Black $ Decker D1700 Digital Edge steam iron is one of the best irons that I have tried. The Ceramic sole plate, is the best ever. It steams and irons like a dream. I would give this iron as a gift to friends and family members. I highly recommend is iron to everyone. It's light weight, and small hand friendly.

At first Iron pressed beautifully then some kind of goo started to leak from the front??? I thought....okay how weird? so I cleaned iron and restarted. more goo. returning to the store, this iron started acting like this right out of the box!!! for a Black and Decker...Very disappointed.

no more overheat!,

Pros: It can control the heat by turning the node to what fibers you are ironing. It is very easy. No More Overheat on the delicate fibers! It can be auto cleaning. It will beeps your when its heat is reached and ready for you to iron. It can auto turn off when you forgot to remove the plug!
Cons: It is a bit heavier than the normal one. It takes a bit longer to heat the iron. And it is not cordless.

I bought this iron and within a few weeks, it had stopped producing steam. It was heating up fine, so I think there was some sort of digital error with the steam regulation, since it is supposed to have this "Smart Steam" system. Black and Decker replaced the iron, although that took over four months, since they apparently forgot to ship the replacement for a long time, and I had to nag them a couple of times. I did have to pay the couple of bucks shipping for the plug they wanted as proof, not the whole iron. So, the replacement iron also failed to produce steam after a couple of months. This means I didn't just get a faulty or defective one the first time. There is some sort of design flaw that causes this problem. I'm going to get the iron replaced again, but I'm only going to use it as an emergency backup, since I plan to buy a different iron in the meantime. Altogether, it was a complete hassle having to go through all of this, just to end up buying a different iron. My advice, and I'm a costume professional, so I have lots of experience with irons and pressing:
If you don't actually need all those bells and whistles, you're better off with an iron that contains no digital features at all. Just plug in, turn on, make steam. Good luck finding one, however.

We bought this iron after having 2 Rowenta irons fail in 6 months. At first my wife was very happy with this iron, but after only 3 months and light use she noticed water leaking from the base plate. Closer inspection showed that the iron base plate had cracked completely across the middle. Being only 3 months old we contacted B&D for warranty replacement. We are now fighting with them as they say the iron is only under warranty for 1 year from date of purchase and is not covered. We guess that they are using "new" math to figure out that June to September is more than one year. We'll see ..........

Works fine for a while, then just stops,

This is the second Black and Decker iron I have owned. The first one (a Digital Advantage) suddenly stopped working whilst in the middle of ironing. It was less than a year old but we couldn't find the receipt so resigned ourselves to buying a new one. Hoping that the first faulty iron was just a one off, we purchased another Black and Decker, this time a D1700. It managed 9 months before doing the same thing, although this time I could get it to work a couple of times by wiggling the cord. There was obviously a fault in the connection. I sent off the plug and a cheque to cover postage, as requested by customer service, on January 21. As of April 24 they have cashed my cheque but I am still waiting for the replacement iron. Needless to say, I will not be buying another B&D iron!

This iron is a piece of junk! I bought it in March of this year and yesterday it died. This was my third and last B&D iron. The most any of them lasted was 16 months, poor reliabilty and quality control. I will never buy another B&D iron!
