Love this iron, it's smooth, great steam, easy to use, heats up quick.

The digital readout makes setting the temperature simple and the iron heats up very fast and beeps to let you know when it's ready.

The weight of the iron is nice--not too heavy but weighty enough to make me feel like it's doing the work instead of me.

I have owned Kenmore Irons, and a top line Rowenta that was recently dropped - replaced by this B&D model. It holds more water than others, there is no gimicky controls - very basic - press the button for the right textile setting and go. The sole plate is smooth - steam is powerful. I iron all my jeans - most come out of the dryer with hard creases - this iron presses them all out. Delicate items - poly and blends - no melting! My old Rowenta melted everthing it touched - and then the $15 cleaning kit was a hassel with Rowenta - not to mention all the spitting from the steam holes. Black and Decker has made a fantastic iron that well worth the money! Don't hesitate - just buy it.

This iron does a really good job of ironing but it has a major design flaw. The cover over the water well breaks really easily. I had read reviews before I bought it where people stated they had the same issue. Like a dummy I figured they were just rough with it and was sure it wouldn't happen to mine. I was wrong. The third time I used it, although I was very careful, the piece that holds the cover shut broke off. I have to fill it and tape the cover down with masking tape. It's a real pain. And water still leaks out of the water well all over my clothes. You would think a company like Black & Decker could come up with something better than this. I'd be willing to pay more to have a better cover. 5 stars for ironing power and ease. 2 for design.

This will be a short and sweet review. As a guy I hate ironing, but find it necessary to keep the work shirts and pants looking good. This iron heats up very quickly, glides easily and has an incredible shot of steam that would please Tim Allen, "Argh, argh, argh". My sisters $120+ Rowenta has nothing on this baby.

I loved this iron until it died after owning it for a little over a year. I bought this iron because Consumer Reports rated it #1. It was a great iron while it worked. (I iron about once a week - sometimes twice a month.) I've had irons last for years and I usually get rid of them because they lack the bells and whistles not because they fail to work. Black & Decker Customer Service acted like I was the only one whoever had a problem with one of their products and told me to go buy another iron because it was over a year old. I'm sorry, but I think with light use, an iron should last more than a year. Forget Black & Decker. I'm trying Rowenta or Bosch.

I purchased this iron in October of 2006 primarily because of the high ratings it received from other customers. I received the iron from Amazon and was initially very impressed with the iron and it's product features. However, every time I ironed, the soleplate would build up a dark brown scorched residue that immediately began staining my clothes. I followed the manufacturers instructions and wiped clean with a plain moist cloth, but the next time around...same problem.
I called Black & Deckers "Help" Line and was connected with a Representative who listened to the problem and presumed that my iron must be defective and would gladly exchange it for the exact same model. I followed her instructions including sending in a portion of the plug, a letter addressing the malfunction, and a check for $7.50 to cover S&H. By the way, I was very polite and understanding throughout, these things happen.
About 3 weeks later, I received a "new" iron on my doorstep. No outer packaging, just the iron with a shipping label affixed, in a crumpled box. Not my original iron,, by the way. Not only is it not the original iron, but this model has about half the satisfaction ratings the original model had. Many complaints of leaking. To make matters worse, it looks like it has either been used or reconditioned. There is a large chip in the side soleplate, and scuff marks all over the bottom. Naturally, I called B&D and was informed that they are allowed to "substitute" a model if the original one is not available. I quickly responded that this was never conveyed to me in our initial conversation (Honest!!). B&D proceeded to tell me that should I wish to return it again, both the return and re-shipment will be at my expense. What if I want to try it out, but then decide I don't like it?

This is a great iron, hands down. It made ironing extremely easy.

However, this morning, the unit overheated and caught on fire. What a mess. It was on level six, the cotton setting, and had plenty of water inside.

This is the best iron I have ever had, but the shortest lived.

I do not recommend this iron. If you do own it, do not walk away from it with the power on.

I bought this iron two weeks ago and while it worked it performed miraculously. I decided to go with this model after carefully reading all the reviews here on Amazon and checking the Consumer Reports website. This Iron was the highest rated model so I decided to buy it with full confidence. However, one day I plugged it in and after a minute I saw smoke coming out of the Iron. At first I thought something was stuck on the bottom of the sole plate. After observing where the smoke was coming from I realized it was from inside the iron and the smoke smelled like burning electric wires. At this point I unplugged the iron and after it cooled off I plugged it in again to see if it would work (I realize I should not have done that!!). Well, nothing happened, the iron simply stopped working, it would just get warm but never hot and the steam function stopped working. Needless to say I was greatly disappointed, I rushed to the phone and called Black and Decker consumer support. They were very courteous and helpful and told me they would send a replacement in a week. Unfortunately, they did not have the same model in stock so they sent me the Black & Decker D2020-
