Better than Rowenta! Hands down!,
By dlb (WI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Black & Decker D2030 Auto-Off Digital Advantage Iron (Kitchen)
I have owned Kenmore Irons, and a top line Rowenta that was recently dropped - replaced by this B&D model. It holds more water than others, there is no gimicky controls - very basic - press the button for the right textile setting and go. The sole plate is smooth - steam is powerful. I iron all my jeans - most come out of the dryer with hard creases - this iron presses them all out. Delicate items - poly and blends - no melting! My old Rowenta melted everthing it touched - and then the $15 cleaning kit was a hassel with Rowenta - not to mention all the spitting from the steam holes. Black and Decker has made a fantastic iron that well worth the money! Don't hesitate - just buy it.

Really good iron but...,

This iron does a really good job of ironing but it has a major design flaw. The cover over the water well breaks really easily. I had read reviews before I bought it where people stated they had the same issue. Like a dummy I figured they were just rough with it and was sure it wouldn't happen to mine. I was wrong. The third time I used it, although I was very careful, the piece that holds the cover shut broke off. I have to fill it and tape the cover down with masking tape. It's a real pain. And water still leaks out of the water well all over my clothes. You would think a company like Black & Decker could come up with something better than this. I'd be willing to pay more to have a better cover. 5 stars for ironing power and ease. 2 for design.

This will be a short and sweet review. As a guy I hate ironing, but find it necessary to keep the work shirts and pants looking good. This iron heats up very quickly, glides easily and has an incredible shot of steam that would please Tim Allen, "Argh, argh, argh". My sisters $120+ Rowenta has nothing on this baby.

I replaced my VERY old iron with the Black & Decker D2030 Auto-Off Digital Advantage Iron, so I am comparing my new iron to a twenty year old iron. However, the D2030 can iron in less than half the time as my old iron. I don't even need starch. The steamer works GREAT with a variable steam dial to select the right amount of steam. It also has a spray function. This iron is very simple to use and I am very pleased with this purchase. I would recommend this product.

Excellent iron!,

I love this iron! Ironing is not my favorite chore but this makes it much more torable and easy to use. I previously owned a Rowenta and prefer the BLACK & DECKER. It glides beautifully, doesn't spit out water like the Rowenta, which is so over rated. I'm so happy with my new purchase! You won't be disappointed.

After 2yrs my Euro-Pro died a very nasty death melted the cover and padding. So after a long and hard search, reading reviews not only at Amazon but other sites as well I decided on this Black & Decker. I love this iron, it's got a good weight, great steam,a window that lights up to let you know it's ready to use.
All of the reviews I've read all said the same thing how happy they are with the purchase and I too am glad I bought it. UPDATE;2/21/07 Well it's been several months now since I bought the iron and it is still going strong. I'm very happy with the purchase. Heats up quickly, no leaking of any kind, I keep my steam setting on the highest so I do refill it several times a week and have not had any problem with the cover breaking. After paying so much for several Rowentas what a great feeling to finally find a great item and at an even better price.

I love this iron. It is the first iron I have had that actually steams everytime you pick it up. I don't have to jiggle it to get it to steam; as soon as you pick it up steam comes out. I have had many irons over the years and so far I think this is the best one I have ever owned.

Shame on You Black & Decker,

I purchased this iron in October of 2006 primarily because of the high ratings it received from other customers. I received the iron from Amazon and was initially very impressed with the iron and it's product features. However, every time I ironed, the soleplate would build up a dark brown scorched residue that immediately began staining my clothes. I followed the manufacturers instructions and wiped clean with a plain moist cloth, but the next time around...same problem.
I called Black & Deckers "Help" Line and was connected with a Representative who listened to the problem and presumed that my iron must be defective and would gladly exchange it for the exact same model. I followed her instructions including sending in a portion of the plug, a letter addressing the malfunction, and a check for $7.50 to cover S&H. By the way, I was very polite and understanding throughout, these things happen. About 3 weeks later, I received a "new" iron on my doorstep. No outer packaging, just the iron with a shipping label affixed, in a crumpled box. Not my original iron,, by the way. Not only is it not the original iron, but this model has about half the satisfaction ratings the original model had. Many complaints of leaking. To make matters worse, it looks like it has either been used or reconditioned. There is a large chip in the side soleplate, and scuff marks all over the bottom. Naturally, I called B&D and was informed that they are allowed to "substitute" a model if the original one is not available. I quickly responded that this was never conveyed to me in our initial conversation (Honest!!). B&D proceeded to tell me that should I wish to return it again, both the return and re-shipment will be at my expense. What if I want to try it out, but then decide I don't like it? Well, then I'm totally out of luck. It must be returned in the original packaging and in the condition I originally received it, as bad as it is. Once it's used, I forfeit the whole deal. A big company like Black & Decker should not be playing these kind of games. I purchased this iron in good faith, and I do believe there was a defect of some sort with my original iron, but don't tell me you're going to send the same one and then replace it with an inferior model. Oh, I plan to try to use the replacement, but if I'm disappointed, I'll go back to the Rowenta Models. Stick with what you know and trust. I thought that was what I was doing when I purchased this Black & Decker. Never again!!

I do a lot of ironing and have always had to use spray starch to get my clothes looking the way I want them to.
I bought this iron 2 months ago and have not picked up a can of spray starch since. It is a great iron!! I love the steam feature, the auto off feature, the cord placement (doesn't drag over your clothes) and I really like the thing that you use to fill the water tank. Again.... I say it is a GREAT iron!!

FANTASTIC IRON,

I just received this iron and I'm very impressed. It makes the chore of ironing fun and fast! The iron gets very hot if needed for jeans, and there is a lot of steam! It comes with a special styled plastic cup for filling the iron with water which makes it easy. The digital control is easy to set for cotton, rayon, polyester blends, etc. I like the feature that beeps so you know it's at the right temperature. It takes the guesswork out of which setting you should use for the fabric type. I had a Rowenta which is over rated and over priced. I highly recommend this iron!
