4.0 out of 5 stars Good Basic Coffee Maker
We didn't want timers, clocks, adjustable brew strength, bells and whistles... We just wanted a good cup of coffee. We like the comfortable handle, we like the the location and size of the on/off switch that you can find in the semi-darkness when you're still mostly asleep. And we LOVE the clear markings on the carafe that takes the guesswork out of the fill level...

1.0 out of 5 stars Stay away from this one!
This coffeemaker has many flaws and is made of very cheap materials. I bought it a couple of months ago. The basket has a tiny spring inside that positions the lever properly in order to control the pause and serve feature. The screw pops off very easily. This happened to me when I cleaned the coffee maker for the first time before ever using it. I figured out how to...

We didn't want timers, clocks, adjustable brew strength, bells and whistles... We just wanted a good cup of coffee. We like the comfortable handle, we like the the location and size of the on/off switch that you can find in the semi-darkness when you're still mostly asleep. And we LOVE the clear markings on the carafe that takes the guesswork out of the fill level. (For this much coffee, fill to this water level.)

We have not experienced the problems mentioned in some of the other reviews. Maybe it's because I'm used previous makers, but I'm in the habit of holding the lid partway open when I pour coffee, so have not noticed the leaky-drippy factor that seems to be the focus of some of the complaints. The only problem I have had so far was not seating the basket properly, thus getting 12 cups of coffee all over my kitchen table. It only happened once because we now take an extra second to make sure the basket and carafe are properly in place.

As far as the referrals to this product as "cheap" - What do you expect for 20-25 dollars?! Normally, I would say "you get what you pay for," but in this case, I feel we got MORE than we paid for: A good coffee maker at a decent price.

I figured out how to put the spring back in place, but it pops out almost every time it's cleaned. Also, the lid to the carafe no longer secures properly. I'm still using this coffee maker while in the process of trying to find another one.

4.0 out of 5 stars doesn't make a mess, April 27, 2008

I love this simple little coffee pot. I have been using this model for years primarily because it is simple and doesn't have much to go wrong with it. I became tired of pots with timers that stop working and make the pot unusable. It makes great coffee and it pours perfectly and does not dribble on the counter. It makes twelve cups of coffee in less than five minutes.

1.0 out of 5 stars looks good, cheaply made, May 19, 2006
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM2000B SmartBrew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
My husband brought home this neat black coffee maker, deliberately choosing one without a timer - the less bells and whistles the less can go wrong . . .right?

How can this company not even get the on-off button right???

it's so cheap, when you push it, the "lighted button" just pushes right in, and doesn't turn the coffeemaker off or on.

Why didn't we keep the box and receipt, so we could return it??

$20 down the drain

DON'T BUY THIS!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best coffemaker ever, November 2, 2009

I just bought TWO of these coffeemakers, and they sit side by side on my counter top. My family keeps commenting "love this coffee pot" ever time we get a cup.

Positives are:
1> The pot doesn't drip when you put in the water,
2> It doesn't leak water all over the counter,
3> The pot doesn't drip and leak when you pour a cup of coffee!
4> The price was right, especially since I bought two,
5> Even though the two together qualified for free delivery we had them in 3 days,
6> and lastly, there are NO negatives!

VERY PLEASED!

3.0 out of 5 stars Mixed Bag, May 31, 2006
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM2000B SmartBrew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
Just look at the price - this is a cheap coffee maker. Keep this in mind when considering this purchase. I'm a student that relies on coffee for my studies/time-wasting sessions. This maker has aided me in that task - I had no idea how to work my old Braun maker. So it fulfills its most basic function - to make coffee in a simple, fuss-free manner. Despite this, I have some small quibbles. First, the filter holder is of an odd shape and does not fit standard filter papers. It sort of defeats the purpose of buying a cheap maker if one most purchase special filters. Secondly, one must manipulate the caraffe just-so in order to insure a drip-free delivery of coffee. It seems inexcusable that a pot designed to pour coffee (not a difficult task!) should occasionally fail. Yes, it is a cheap model, but these very basic design flaws demand at least a 2 star penalty.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mine just quit & I want another one, September 21, 2009
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM2000B SmartBrew 12-Cup Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
We got ours as a gift 3 or 4 yrs ago from someone who knew we needed lots of coffee on a daily basis, and that's what we've used it for. Then one morning it just quit and I want another one just like it. It's basic but has what we want: timer for automatic turn on/off, clear markings on the carafe, that's it. You DO have to BE CERTAIN that the carafe and basket are positioned correctly or you'll get a lake of coffee all over your counter. Also, there are two holes in back of the reservoir, up at the top. Be careful to not jostle the coffee maker after you fill it with the maximum volume of water, or water will dribble down the back of it and form a puddle on the counter. Having said that, I reiterate that it was a very satisfactory coffee maker for a couple of simplistic, non-gadgety types who really need their coffee WHEN they want it! And in this day and age of crappy quality, I think 3-4 yrs for a coffee maker is pretty good.

This is a brewer that's reasonably quick, makes a great pot of coffee and doesn't dribble all over the place when you pour from the first to last cup. If you want a pot without all the gizmos, this is it! Well worth the money and from a brand with a great reputation. Five stars for sure.

i dont know what people expect for 20 bucks. this coffee maker works very well at what it supposed to do, make coffee. it's also very cheap and very easy to use. in terms of durability, every one of these cheap black and decker coffee makers (that i've ever owned) work well for a few years and then one day suddenly don't work at all. it's then time to buy a new coffee maker. in short, this is a very good, simple, basic, cheap coffee maker. it will probably last at least a couple of years. it's well worth 20 bucks.

1.0 out of 5 stars lukewarm coffee and condensation drips, December 19, 2009

Terrible! So mad about wasting more money! Coffee was horrible and lukewarm. Had to microwave my milk to keep coffee above room temperature! Plus, when you open lid to fill, condensation runs all out of the machine top leaving a puddle of water under your electric machine every time you open top. Run!
