5.0 out of 5 stars A great coffee maker for the price
I originally had a 4-cup coffee maker with a stainless steel carafe. It did the job, but would not stop leaking during pours. I was a bit skeptical of the DCM2590 because of the price, but I was wrong. While eight cups may seem a bit much, the thermal carafe has kept coffee I made in the morning warm until after work! Plus, not a single drip out of the carafe! The coffee...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great.
I wanted an automatic drip because the on/off switch on my vacuum coffeemaker broke within three months (Bodum brand) so I had to stand and hold the button. I wanted thermal to keep the coffee hot. This model, to my surprise, has a flat filter, not cone-shaped. The coffee needs to be finely ground to ensure a rich cup of coffee. Unlike the vacuum, the water never really...

This thermal carafe coffee maker works well in getting most of the flavor from the coffee, is very easy to clean, is energy efficient, keeps the coffee hot and keeps flavor in the coffee for a long time if the top is closed securely, is reasonably attractive, appears to be durable, and seemed to be the least expensive of all the thermal carafe coffee makers currently available. I believe that it should be illegal to sell old fashioned hot-plate coffee makers, which are incredibly wasteful of energy and which make coffee undrinkable 5 minutes after brewing.

I bought this coffeemaker a few weeks ago. I am extremely happy with it. I've never used a thermal carafe before, and it works quite well. I've made a full pot of coffee, drawn one mug, then waited an hour or two before pouring the second mug and the coffee is still nice and hot. I'm pleased to not have to worry about the heat plate cooking the coffee. The clock and timer work fine, and the coffee tastes fine to this non-gourmet.

It does have a couple of flaws, so it doesn't earn 5 stars. It's a basket filter, not a cone filter, so I wind up using more grounds than really necessary (but any cone-filter coffeemaker is automatically at least $25 more expensive than a basket, go figure). The "brew-pause" feature on my unit doesn't fully close the basket-hole for some reason. However, that problem rarely shows itself, as I use it to have the coffee ready when I get up in the morning.

Overall, I'm quite happy with this coffemaker.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good energy-saver coffee maker, March 3, 2009
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM2590 SmartBrew 8-Cup Drip Coffeemaker with Thermal Carafe, Black (Kitchen)
This a good coffee maker. Makes good hot coffee and shuts off automatically when brewed. Pot keeps coffee hot for about an hour. Only problem is the lid which needs a more visible mark making it easier to line up properly.

This model, to my surprise, has a flat filter, not cone-shaped. The coffee needs to be finely ground to ensure a rich cup of coffee. Unlike the vacuum, the water never really boils so it starts out cooler, but stays a reasonable temperature in the carafe.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good coffee, December 4, 2008
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM2590 SmartBrew 8-Cup Drip Coffeemaker with Thermal Carafe, Black (Kitchen)
I ordered this as a gift for my son who lives in a college dorm. He tells me it works well, makes good coffee; the only issue he has is that the amount of condensation on top of the carafe causes it to be a bit "drippy," but not excessively so. He is saving money by having the coffee in his room as opposed to buying expensive coffee drinks elsewhere. I would order this product again.

I needed to replace a Bunn coffeemaker. Even though it made great coffee and was super speedy, I was fed up. In just three years there had been two recalls, and then one morning it had leaked water all over the counter. Enough already! After lots of research, this looked as if it was what I wanted. Even though it would take longer to brew coffee than the Bunn, it had a thermal carafe and a timer. I made the right choice. This makes hot delicious coffee which stays hot and fresh long enough to last through the morning. I am pleased.

Nice coffee-maker but with issues. Carafe leaks occasionally with a mind of it`s own. Needs pre-heating to keep first pot hot. After that all is well. Don`t invest a lot on one but it`s long-lasting. Mine is going on 2 yrs. and no surprises yet. Thermal carafe is much better then warmer. No burned taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price!, May 19, 2009

I wanted a coffee maker with the thermal carafe because I don't like having to leave the burner on in order to keep the coffee hot. This model is great because it brews quickly and keeps the coffee hot for several hours after brewing while saving electricity and keeping the coffee tasting fresh. The timer works well, too, and you can't beat the price!
