Practical Features! & Competitively Priced ..., June 16, 2003
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM2700GVA 12-Cup Smart Brew Coffeemaker with Bonus Coffee Grinder (Kitchen)
Some coffee makers just don't brew the coffee hot enough. This model has ADJUSTABLE HEAT SETTINGS. I think the hottest setting would be the most universal but that depends on individual preference. The AUTOMATIC OFF safty feature - adjustable from 1 - 4 hours -is very nice if you have one VERY early riser in the household. The quality of the brew holds up well in our opinion. The capacity gauge on the outside is clearly visible & the reservoir is easy to fill without spillage. The coffee basket lifts out easily & there is no fumbling to replace it. Two unusual advantages are the DARK BROWN basket that holds the coffee and the PLASTIC POURING SPOUT. Face it - no matter how careful you are, coffee WILL stain - at least this way you don't have to look at it! The plastic spout is something I haven't seen before - part of the plastic 'collar/handle' unit. This is especially practical because it's easy to break the glass spouts on coffee makers when rinsing them. The AUTOMATIC PROGRAMMING feature will be important to many users. Lastly - the unit makes a fine cup of coffee, which I think depends more on the type of coffee used than the pot itself anyway. The unit is new but so far I have no negative comments to make. We're very happy with it.

Air raid? House on fire? No... the coffee's done!, October 4, 2003
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM2700GVA 12-Cup Smart Brew Coffeemaker with Bonus Coffee Grinder (Kitchen)
For an inexpensive coffee maker, the Smart Brew has plenty of nice features. You can tell it how long to keep your coffee warm, and even at what temperature. The one thing you can't tell it to do, however, is shut up. At a decibel level normally reserved in the world of household appliances for alarm clocks and smoke detectors, the Smart Brew announces your coffee has finished brewing with four of what the ad copy humorously understates as "beeps" but I prefer to call "ear-splitting banshee wails." One or more hours later, depending on your setting of choice, it "beeps" again to tell you your coffee will no longer be kept warm. If you are an electrical engineer and can disable this feature, you will enjoy the otherwise faultless operation of the Black & Decker Smart Brew. The rest of us will just have to take care not to spill our coffee when the next helpful "beep" scares us half to death.

Works Great For Me!, May 15, 2005
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM2700GVA 12-Cup Smart Brew Coffeemaker with Bonus Coffee Grinder (Kitchen)
I have no idea what the beep or alarm is everyone is talking about. I bought one of these BEFORE I read the reviews and was scared of what I'd get when the coffe maker arrived. I was pleased that there was no "alarm or beep" to notify me that the coffee was ready. Maybe they removed that feature after seeing the complaints, because mine is as quite as a mouse. It works great but the ONLY thing that I would change about it is the lid on the carafe. It is not removable, therefore making it almost impossible to put in the dishwasher. I guess you could alway rinse in under the sink. But all in all, I'd recommond it.
