Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Blessed with a carafe that pours without dripping, this inexpensive coffeemaker brews up to five 5-ounce cups of coffee without bells and whistles. It's designed for simplicity of operation, with the carafe calibrated both for filling the reservoir properly and for judging the amount of brewed coffee after some water has been lost in the brewing process. Other features include a calibrated reservoir window for monitoring the water level, a hinged cover that flips back to reveal both reservoir and filter basket (it uses paper filters), a nonstick warming plate that cleans with the swipe of a damp cloth, and an automatic one-hour shutoff for safety. The carafe has a comfortable handle and a guard to protect the knuckles. Unusually compact, the coffeemaker measures just 6-3/4 inches wide, 9-1/2 inches high, and 8 inches deep, perfect for home or office. --Fred Brack

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage, August 2, 2004
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM550 SmartBrew Auto-Off 5-Cup Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
Gone through 2 of these in 7 months. first one had the hot plate quit after 4 months. Called B&D and they said to take it to the nearest repair center (160 miles away). So I bought another one (only $15 on sale - less than gas to go to repair center)This one quit working altogether after 3 months. Wouldn't take another one if they gave it to me

1.0 out of 5 stars Just can't trust Black & Decker, February 17, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM550 SmartBrew Auto-Off 5-Cup Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
I purchased the same machine (12 cup) at an excellent sale price.... Worked for two months and just quit. Contacted Black & Decker and received a curt answer (they could direct me to nearest repair center). This is second time I had problem with Black & Decker Coffee Maker. "Fool me once it's your fault .. Fool me twice it's my fault.." So it was my own fault but there will not be a third. They should stick to tools!

3.0 out of 5 stars This is a so-so machine, December 4, 2005
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM550 SmartBrew Auto-Off 5-Cup Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
This is my second one within a year. The first one started to make noises that I actually thought it was going to explode. I called B&D and said they to cut the cord off leaving the plug.
Within a few weeks, I had a brand new one.
The plate leaves burn spots that cannot be removed and it's kind of hard to clean entirely. Even the pot.
It's a good starter coffee machine until one can save enough $$$ for a Braun.
The machine has been discontinued so that should say a lot.
