Great little programmable coffee maker with clock! I will keep it since I like it better then the other little 5 cup ones I have seen.
However, there is no 'pause and serve' feature- make sure it is absolutely finished brewing before you get your coffee, or it will leak all over the warming plate and you will have to sop it up with paper towels. Also, sometimes if...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not hot!
Bought this for my mom & she likes the size & simplicity, but says the coffee it makes is not nearly hot enough (to the point that it has to be additionally heated in the microwave).

5.0 out of 5 stars Good coffee maker, July 30, 2008
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM580B 5-Cup Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
This coffee-maker works just fine and brews cups of coffee with no problem. I'm a regular coffee drinker (not a barista or coffee gourmet) and sip a couple of coffee daily. The beauty of this machine is that it is very simple to use. Put a couple of scoops of coffee, pour water, and press start, then that's it. I once had a espresso machine that had many parts and needed some tricks to make a coffee. My family got tired of using and washing that machine, and soon lost the interest about espresso. This machine is just straightforward coffee machine without any frills except that timer feature. I like the permanent filter came with the machine. One trick to brew a good coffee using this machine is that don't grind your coffee beans too fine, otherwise finer bean particles pass through the filter and make sediment in the carafe.

5.0 out of 5 stars online purchasing, February 23, 2008
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM580B 5-Cup Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
I had checked all over for a 4-5 cup coffeepot that made regular coffee. I found one in a local store but they were sold out. I checked a variety of places and could not find the one I saw. I decided to try Amazon and they directed me right to it and the ordering couldn't have been easier. I'm very satisfied with my Black and Decker coffeepot and I received it in excellent time. I definitely will purchase other items through Amazon again.

There is a distinct advantage to having a coffee maker that makes 5 cups rather than the usual 4. This is an old, but good design; we had one the same as this for 5 years daily use with no trouble until the heating element finally went. We bought two new ones, one to replace the failed unit, and a second to put away for future use. You can save the old caraffe in case you break one. You cannot always depend on a product you like and are familiar with being available in the future so it pays at this minimal price to have a spare.

Black & Decker was a bad choice for this style coffe maker. It's over priced, the glass pot is Ill cast and drips when you pour. A replacement pot costs more than the original price of the coffee maker.

This is the worst piece of junk you can imagine. The coffee is terrible. It is very poorly constructed, mine arrived without one of the little rubber feet that go on the bottom, so it was wobbly. I went out an bought another coffee maker right away.

2.0 out of 5 stars Water Water Everywhere...and Only a Drop of Coffee to Drink., June 29, 2008
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM580B 5-Cup Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
One thing about this coffeemaker is that it will certainly help keep your countertops clean since it's nearly impossible to fill without spilling water everywhere. The design of the caraffe, while looking perfectly normal, is amazingly bad. Water pours down the caraffe & off the bottom every time. Maybe I'll someday master the technique of pouring water into the coffeemaker, but I don't often have the delicate skills of a brain-surgeon when I roll out of bed in the morning and stumble toward the kitchen.

Secondly, the maker does come with a permanent wire coffee basket, but I've never used it because it's so small. Perhaps it would work for most people, but I like my coffee a little on the strong side and the basket seems tiny. The good news is that you can still use paper filters in the coffeemaker, but the bad news is that you still have to use paper filters.

If space is a consideration, please be aware that the top of the coffeemaker is all one solid piece that lifts from the front. This means you need to have clearance above the maker that at least equals the depth of the appliance from front to back. My old 4-cup maker fit perfectly under a cabinet, but this one doesn't quite fit in the same space. Certainly it's no fault of the appliance, but I wish I'd realized it beforehand.

Lastly, a note to Southpaws. The lift-out coffee basket has a flat tab on the backside that serves, I guess, as a handle. The basket only fits one way, with the flat tab extending over the left side of the water resevoir. Lefties pouring water into the maker will have a difficult time missing the tab that sticks out over the water resevoir, and pouring water on the tab causes it to splash everywhere or pour down onto the hotplate area. It's probably not a good idea to lay your cell phone down anywhere around this coffeemaker.

Hello, Mr. Black & Decker? There are some people out here who prefer our morning cuppa with a little cream, little suger, no mop. Can you make that happen for us please?

2.0 out of 5 stars Not that impressed, January 3, 2010
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM580B 5-Cup Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
Makes good coffee with the permanent filter if the proper amount of coarse grind coffee is used. It is noisy and slow. The outside of the coffeemaker gets very hot, nearly hot enough to burn.

It sometimes will continue making gurgling and hissing noises while dripping coffee into the pot and hot water from around the top of the coffeemaker for 5 minutes or more after it should have finished brewing.

It is necessary to raise the lid of the carafe when pouring or it will run down the side of the pot and onto the counter instead of into the cup.

It is possible to buy 10-12 cup coffeemakers for less than what this one costs. I thought a smaller size would be a good idea as I only drink 4-6 cups a day. It's not a bad idea, but this particular coffeemaker has not proven to be worth the extra cost.

I have considered boxing it up and shipping it to Black and Decker so they can see for themselves why I am not impressed with it.
