For the price and the features, I don't think you can beat this little guy. My only complaint is that the coffee is not as hot as I'd like it to be, even as soon as it's done brewing. It's not hot, more like warm to very warm. Other than that, it's a great little unit. Just the right size, and very user friendly.

Does a good job as advertised. Though billed as a 5 cup maker, realistically makes 2 full coffee mugs of freshly brewed coffee with a little left over for a warm-up.
For people who complain of leakage or dribbling, you must raise the lid with your thumb when pouring. If the liquid touches the lid, any coffee maker pot will leak. This is especially true when refilling the reservoir because we all tend to just dump the water in. Take this simple step and the frustration disappears.

The Black & Decker coffee maker is a great idea. Very often you run out of coffee for 4 when you use mugs. However---The controls on the coffee maker are very poorly and cheaply designed. The plastic coverings on the controls are flimsy and don't seem like they are going to hold up.

I own a hotel and buy coffee makers for all our rooms all the time. This one is nice and compact and looks nice, but we have bought at least 3-4 of these and they have all broken after not much use. I would not recommend it.

This is a nice, reasonably priced coffee maker. It makes enough coffee for my husband and myself without a lot of wasted coffee. The programmable function, auto shut off, and permanent filter are all nice features.
I remember that other reviewers commented on drips. However, I've noticed that happens w/ other coffee makers, too, and I think it's just a matter of pouring slowly when the carafe is full. The reason I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5 is two-fold: (1) it makes a good cup of coffee, but it could probably be more flavorful; and (2) the structure of the machine looks a bit shoddier than how it's depicted in the picture (a sort of flimsy-ish plastic). Overall, this is a great coffee maker for one or two people, and a good value.

I bought this coffee maker because I am the only one in my house who drinks coffee and because I was spending $2.34 at Dunkin Donuts every morning during the week, and running out on Saturday and Sunday (or my husband would go out) for a big cup, AND, because going to Dunkin Donuts on some days, the temptation was impossible to get a mufin or something I shouldn't eat. In one pot (makes 5 6oz cups), I can make exactly what I need (which, after some experimenting, takes 4 cups of water and 4 tablespoons of coffee to fill my 24 oz travel mug (made by Copco if anyone's interested, since they're so hard to find) leaving enough room for my milk). The machine has a clock, an auto set timer, and goes off automatically after 2 hours. It also has a permanent filter which is really easy to clean. I rinse out the coffee grinds, wash it with soap and water, and let it drip dry. Cleaning the parts takes less than 5 minutes. I would definitely recommend it. As said above, it saves money, diet and also saves time in the morning, since the coffee is already brewed when I am ready to go, and all I need to do is pour it in the mug, add splenda and milk, and I'm on my way - WAY better than waiting in line at Dunkin Donuts!

I purchased this coffee maker because I wanted something compact that had a timer. I brewed a couple of times using the metallic filter that came with the machine. The filter is very convenient but the coffee tasted horrible. I ended up purchasing the 8-cup size paper filters and started using these instead. The coffee was much, much better but still a bit "plasticy" tasting. I figured time would wash away the faint plasticy taste, but after a dozen or so brews it still hasn't. I've gone back to the french press. A messy and involved process but the coffee tastes so much better. The timer always worked perfectly; I'd wake up to a fresh brewed pot when I used that feature and that was great. For the money, this is a nice, little brewer. But, you get what you pay for. It's all plastic and for myself anyway I could never get past the taste of the coffee.

I was so happy to find a 5 cup coffee maker when my Mr. Coffee, 10 cup, died after many years of wonderful but light use. I started looking for a coffee maker with 5 cups rather than 4, because I am accustomed to 24 ounces of coffee, only, each morning and need nothing more than that during a 24 hour period. At 5 ounces per cup, the 4 cup coffee makers would not service my needs.
I also wanted to use a coffee filter made of paper but this Black and Decker came with it's own permanent filter and I did not want the mess those grounds would leave, plus one more thing to clean, but read a review here that this coffee maker was also being used by a person who put 4 cup paper coffee filters in hers. That was the review that made me decide to purchase the Black and Decker. I have used it now for several mornings and love it. I lifted the little permanent filter out and replaced it with a 4 cup paper filter, and all works perfectly for me. I love this little coffee maker and the coffee does stay hot on the plate for two hours, as the advertising states. I fill the water compartment and coffee grounds basket the night before and it is ready for me the next morning. Life is good. So is the taste of the coffee this little 5 cup Black and Decker sweetheart, provides me.

Amazing little brewer for cheap! Able to "Potless-Brew!",

Just right for a quick "Single" cup of coffee. I brew directly into the cup so I don't need (or want) the mid-brewing auto-shutoff for pouring during brewing. On units that have temporary brew-stopping device will not brew directly into a mug or cup. Reason is the little spring-loaded shut-off valve is always on "off" when the pot is removed. So, this unit is just great for a pot-less brewing directly into your mug.
Great for the one or two people who want decaf when you're brewing a pot of regular. Linens-n-Things has it for $19.95 less 20% if you get their coupons in local flyers. I paid $16.00, amazing. I don't like permanent filters because they retain the coffee oil after brewing and that oil film eventually turns rancid unless you wash the basket after each brewing with detergent to remove the oil. Does anyone know who makes a 4-cup round paper filter for use? I am using a #2 cone filter but it fits sloppily. Suggestions? |
