It is the size I wanted. Great design. Attractive and compact. I wanted a break resistant carafe (so my kids can do the dishes). The carafe is well built and is lightweight. 2.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
I bought this after being disappointed when an $80 Cuisinart died after 2 years of service. After purchasing and returning a DeLonghi which produced luke-warm coffee, I decided to run out and just buy this cheap "value" coffee maker instead of dropping $100 for a decent one.

Pros:

I too was concerned that it is not a thermal insulated carafe but it turns out that is not needed since it sits on a "Keep Hot" warming plate. Though it is not listed on the outside of the box, it does indeed automatically shut off after 2 hours as described in the instructions. The clock and programmable timer are simple to set up. Best of all it brews hot delicious coffee!

I bought this after being disappointed when an $80 Cuisinart died after 2 years of service. After purchasing and returning a DeLonghi which produced luke-warm coffee, I decided to run out and just buy this cheap "value" coffee maker instead of dropping $100 for a decent one.

Pros:
* Water is Hot
* Coffee brews fast (if that's what you're looking for)
* Coffee quality is unoffensive, yet boring

Cons:
* Carafe is stainless, but thin. Definitely not insulated.
* Fit and finish of materials is poor - very cheap plastics and clear vinyl cover over buttons.
* While water is hot (an ESSENTIAL element in good coffee), the basket design has nothing to slow the water down and let it actually brew with the ground coffee. This makes for a fine, but unexciting cup of coffee.

Summary - I got about what I expected for $25. If you are looking for great coffee, look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Good Coffeemaker, June 15, 2008
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM675BMT 5-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Carafe, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
I love this 5-cup coffeemaker. This is the first Black & Decker coffeemaker that I have ever owned. I was a die-hard Mr. Coffee user until I tried this little 5-cup from Black & Decker. First of all it brews a superb cup of coffee. The stainless steel carafe is a money saver, in that you don't have to worry about it breaking or cracking. The stainless steel carafe is thin, but it is durable, and it does keep the coffee hot while on the "keep hot plate." It's programmable, and it shuts off after two hours. I use the 8-12 cup size paper filters in the filter basket and they fit perfect. The silver and black color goes well with the decor of my kitchen. I've been drinking coffee for almost 40 years, and I would definitely recommend the 5-cup Black & Decker coffeemaker to anyone who loves a good "cup of joe."

4.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT COLLEGE / APARTMENT COFFEE MAKER, August 21, 2009

This is an awesome little coffee maker in a tiny package.
I've had a large Gevalia coffee maker as well as a Senseo single serve coffee pod maker, and while this brewer doesn't quite match up to the Senseo, it definitely does a good job and makes a good hot cup of coffee.
I don't know why it got such low reviews, perhaps people wanted more for the money they paid, but in all honesty, it is an amazing little bargain of a coffee pot for the money. (Though I must admit I got it for about $20 at Target.)
I love that I can program it and have my coffee ready for me in the morning as well as know that if I forget to turn it off in the morning, it has the auto-off safety feature.
It makes just the right amount of coffee (I use paper 16 oz Insulair cups with coffee lids) so I can have a cup in the morning and I can top off right before I leave the house. The coffee is piping hot, and I have to wait a while to let it cool before I take my first sip. The heating base keeps the coffee at the perfect temperature between cups. (Not sure why others said the temp was too low?) On the weekends it's great for splitting the coffee between two for breakfast. :) Unless you use aLOT of milk, it should be hot enough; I suppose if you want to go Latte, you might be better off putting some milk in the carafe before brewing so the base can help get it heated up.?
I also use this machine to heat up my water when I want to make a cup of tea (or cup of noodles, etc.). I've also brewed tea with the bags in the carafe, but haven't yet tried to brew straight leaves, which may be nice. I use paper filters as this one didn't come with a permanent filter, and I've actually found that it's much more convenient to use paper since I just have to toss it in the trash and don't have to worry about cleaning the permanent filter.
This machine is lightweight (which I like), but it doesn't feel cheap. The carafe is lightweight when empty, but sturdy. I've been using mine about twice a day for the past six months and the handle is still very sturdy (I think the guy who had the handle fall off just got a bad one.) The base does slide a bit when you try to push the buttons, but all you have to do is push down on the top of the machine while you're setting it; not sure why others complained about that so much? If you really want it to stay in place, you could try using one of those non-skid rubber mats underneath?
I'm giving this 4 stars only because it doesn't match up to the Senseo (which costs $70) since that machine uses turbulence to create a nice frothy-fresh cup each time, then again the single serve pods are a lot more expensive and it has a weird round base design which takes up more counter space...so I'd probably give that one 4.5 stars. The Black & Decker is about on par with the standard Gevalia I used, since that one was a basic brewer, but the larger insulated carafe was harder to clean and was also a lot more capacity than I needed.
When I was looking for a new coffee maker, my requirements were that it have a timer, be a 4-5 cup machine, and be a good price ($20-$30). I compared it to the Mr. Coffee 4-cup glass carafe coffee maker. This one won because it was a lil larger, the carafe looked sturdier, and I liked the lid and closed design of the carafe as compared to the cheaper, more open glass carafe on the Mr. Coffee which might also crack/break.

I thought of Black & Decker as more of a power tool company, and thought this machine would be sturdy and reliable. So far, it has totally reached my expectations and I will definitely buy more home appliances from them in the future.

I came online to verify the carafe was stainless steel and not seeping into my coffee/water and I wound up writing a long defense of my lil coffeemaker. Obviously I love it...!

ALL IN ALL, A GREAT BARGAIN COFFEE MAKER WITH GREAT FEATURES FOR THE PRICE. Just realize you're getting a good standard coffee maker and not one of the $60-$80 machines that are bigger and heavier.
A GREAT DORM OR APARTMENT COFFEEMAKER!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well for me, March 21, 2009

This review is from: Black & Decker DCM675BMT 5-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Carafe, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
I'm pretty happy with this basic coffee maker that works well.
The best thing is the volume. It's perfect for one or two people. That little extra cup makes all the difference.
I think it looks nicer with the stainless steel than my old glass carafe. Plus, I'm less worried about breaking it than glass. The carafe is easy to clean. The carafe is not insulated, it's just a single layer. The carafe pours very well.

This model does not come with a reusable coffee filter. I'm using paper.

The coffee is the right temperature for me, but I don't add much milk. If you need piping hot coffee, this one doesn't give you that.

The LED on light is a little hard to see. You have to duck your head down a bit. It probably won't bother most people too much. Doesn't bother me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product for the price and great for small kitchens, August 5, 2008
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM675BMT 5-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Carafe, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
I've been using this coffee maker for about a month with great results. I have a tiny kitchen and this coffee maker takes up very little space. For the price, it can't be beat.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy it, April 8, 2010
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM675BMT 5-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Carafe, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
I liked this coffee maker when I bought it because it is small (I am the only coffee drinker in the house), and it was cute. However, I hate this coffee pot! In every other pot I have had, 1 tbsp of coffee grounds to one cup of water has yeilded great coffee. However, not so with this pot. If I use that ratio, it is almost always way too weak. I still have not figured out the right measurement, and am always playing a guessing game with this coffee pot. Not recommended. I wish I could return it, but I have used it too many times! Just splurge and buy something more expensive--you won't be sorry.

4.0 out of 5 stars Daily coffee drinker likes this product, October 20, 2008
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM675BMT 5-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Carafe, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
I purchased this machine months ago. I program it each night so that my coffee is ready and waiting for me the next workday. If you leave it on it turns off by itself after two hours. I also have a bigger coffee maker but I use that one only when I have a big group of people in the house, otherwise I only use this one. I've had ZERO problems with it. The coffee it makes is good. What else do you need? You make your coffee, you drink it freshly made, and that's it. I purchased this item in Target on sale, but even not on sale it isn't that expensive, considering it is programmable and the timer features. It's a good product and I recommend it. I don't get the negative reviews. What more do you expect from this little machine?

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly designed. Don't bother., November 30, 2007
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM675BMT 5-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Carafe, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
This coffeemaker makes a fine brew, but the caraffe itself is a piece of junk. I had this unit for less than two weeks before the handle came off. I tried super glueing it on, which worked for about a day. It's just a piece of black plastic that is somehow supposed to magically stay attached to the stainless steel caraffe. Maybe mine was faulty, but it just seems like a poor design. Don't bother with this one.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Black & Decker DCM675BMT 5-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Carafe, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
Bought this when my tired Mr. Coffee finally gave up the ghost. Have had this about four months now.
I've got limited kitchen space and love the compact size of this coffee maker and the metal carafe.
No more being 'delicate' with those glass carafes we've all learned to hate.
Makes good coffee good and hot, and I like the auto-brew, auto shut-off, etc. It also takes standard coffee filters.

Only downside to this maker is that the carafe is to thin on the bottom.
After about 15 minutes, your brewed coffee will start to burn.
