5.0 out of 5 stars A convenient, high-capacity, high-quality electric kettle
This kettle is exactly what I was looking for. It boils water
more quickly than our electric range (w/equivalent
wattage), so it saves power. Auto
shut-off after the water reaches boiling temperature (or if the kettle were to boil dry) means no fire hazard and no sprinting to the kitchen to remove a deafening whistling kettle. Looks great, fills and pours...

2.0 out of 5 stars plastic inside
The scale filter base is made of black plastic, which goes all the way to the bottom inside the kettle. My reason for choosing a more expensive stainless steel kettle was to avoid boiling water contact with the plastic. It is not possible to remove plastic parts from inside of this kettle, and I have to return it.

Looks great, fills and pours easily, and has a comfortable handle. Our water is rather hard, so the scale filter is appreciated.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Buy, June 25, 2002

I've had this kettle for about a month and couldn't be happier. It boils water (I almost never boil more that an liter at a time) in about a minute. And, it looks great on the counter. The filter is a nice addition since I have to deal with NY tap water. The handle and bottom stay cool to the touch so you can sit it on any surface. Overall I can't see one problem with the kettle itself. I did get a nice little burn on my finger the second time I used it. But, you'll know not to touch the hot metal fast enough.

I purchased one of these for my office, but I liked it so much I bought a second one for use at home. It's really quite attractive, very quickly boils water, and is easy to use! A great improvement over my stove top kettle and old hot pot!

I've owned 2 of these for a couple of years, now, and have given them heavy daily use. Great for making tea, coffee via french press, soups, jello- anything for which one requires hot/boiling water. Quick, relatively quiet, attractive, sturdy- a quality, value buy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Works great, for a while, January 23, 2004

We were pleased with this kettle, looks good, boils fast. However, after 16 months, it leaked and then stopped working (presumably something shorted out). Not terrible, but these things should last longer!

5.0 out of 5 stars i love it, December 19, 2003

I think I've had it for a year now, and I'm really happy with this kettle. It's amazing how fast it heats up. Particularly if you're just making a small batch of tea. It is fairly large on the counter, but fortunately I have enough room.

I love the look of this electric kettle so I purchased it for my kitchen. I am now debating returning it, because of three things. The base is large, it is easy to lift and use, but takes up more counter space than other electric kettles. Also, I should have realized before purchasing, the outside of the kettle gets HOT. I have a plastic one and it was never a problem, but with this one I would be concerned with things melting onto the side of the kettle. It would be fairly easy to give yourself a light burn, if you weren't prepared. Lastly, there is no signal that the water is ready. Unless you are standing close by and hear the water cease to boil in the kettle you could miss it. I prefer a kettle to ding, or have some other sound to announce that the water is ready, so from the next room you know it is done.

The benefits are that it does boil water quickly and keep it warm for quite a while and it looks great. But for features, a slim line, plastic kettle with a signal would be more useful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Kettle. A challenge to clean, June 26, 2005
This review is from: Black & Decker DKS700 electric kettle (Kitchen)
Have owned and used this kettle on a daily+ basis for at least 1 year and a half. Love the look, how quickly it heats water, and found that the sound of the 'click' when automatically shutting off, was usually sufficient to let us know water was ready. I did find cleaning it an unpleasant challenge. The plastic piece that holds the small filter DOES come out, but it takes small strong hands to accomplish this not so small feat. If not for this draw back...would give this one 5 stars. Am buying new kettle now, as the plastic piece has cracked, likely due to heat and the stress on it in from being taken in and out. It would get pretty gross if you didn't remove it for cleaning. Hope this helps. Peace and happy sipping.

Worked fine for a few months but over time took longer to boil cycling on and off and finally I think the element went out on it. Had the same model for years in Europe but I guess the one for the american market isn't made as well.
