2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and hard to use
Many people in my household agree that it is a piece of "work" You have to try 3 or 4 times before the blade catches on and it starts to work. More than half the time, when we try to use it, it doesn't catch the can correctly, it just spins.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best electric can opener I've found, May 2, 2000

A few months ago my old electric can opener finally gave up and I headed to the nearest store to find a replacement. I am usually in a hurry to prepare a meal, and find the electric can opener absolutely indispensable for saving time and effort. To make a long story short, I returned two other can openers from well known makers because they just were not up to the task; i.e. they would tip forward with heavy loads, and required too much assistance from me to open a can. I then found and bought the Black & Decker EC1200 can opener, attracted by its sleek looks, and it seemed tall enough for juice cans etc. The first can I opened, a large 28oz. can of tomatoes, was an indication of things to come. The opener was steady, it was easy to lock the can under the cutting knife, and at the end of the opening process the built-in magnet held the lid in place, which is important to me. I don't like to fish for it in the contents of the can. By the way, I hardly ever use the knife sharpener or bottle opener, that was not a consideration. I have since opened too many cans to count, always with the same great results, it is hands free, solid, sturdy - and each time I am glad all over again that I don't have to do this by hand. Black & Decker has a winner, and everyone visiting my kitchen has expressed a desire to also buy this opener. I have a reputation as an excellent cook, and my "tools" in the kitchen have helped me get there. If you are tired of having your hands hurt from manually opening cans or have an old electric opener and need a new one -- save yourself aggravation and buy this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Yet, November 9, 2002

I have owned many electric can openers but this is the best one yet. I am really impressed with the sleek design and how nice it looks on my countertop. The cutting blade pops out for easy cleaning plus i like the idea of having a cord storage in the back. With one touch it opens a can. You don't have to stand there and hold the blade down or hold the can. It opens and stops on its own. It also opens tall cans. It has a handy knife sharpener and bottle opener that are a nice convenience.

If you are tired of fighting can openers then you will absolutlely love this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars YOU CAN OPEN A BOTTLE, CAN & SHARPEN AT THE SAME TIME!, January 9, 2002

This Black & Decker beauty has sharpeners to sharpen those dull knives, open those cans cleanly, and has a bottle opener to boot for those husbands who are watching the football game, and don't have to leave a bottle opener on the counter with messy beer muck.

This can opener has it all and for [amt]! What a deal. A definite recommendation that opens cans cleanly with no mess and has the extra hidden feature (My fave!) a cord cupboard in the back so you can hide the excess cord. Its trendy sleak design looks great on the kitchen counter as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars They Don't Come Any Better, October 24, 2001

Any can opener will do your basic perfectly-round can of tuna. I have another test, for evaluating electric openers: (1) Does it open both ends of one of those slant-sided cans of corned beef? And (2) If it passes that test (and believe me, VERY FEW of them do -- most get stuck at the those squarish corners), how cleanly and easily does it do it?

Well, this B&D "Grand Openings" does it superbly! Go get one while they still keep the price low. Based on its performance, it should cost much much more.

1.0 out of 5 stars Forget it!, January 28, 2003

I am extremely disappointed with this model. It won't properly open the cans without my having to lift the cutting device over and over again. I've resorted to using my old manual can opener. I'm trashing it. It's the worst can opener I've ever owned!

Nine months after purchasing this can opener we have a problem...the only way we can get it to stop running is to unplug it. Ours is going in the trash today.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm Happy With My Can Opener!, September 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Black & Decker EC1200 Grand Openings Can Opener (Kitchen)
I couln't wait for my Sunbeam electric can opener to take a nose dive so I could buy an opener that was simple to clean! This product doesn't accumulate metal shavings and bits of paper from the can labels on any component of the opener because the housing of the opener is smooth and sleek. I hated always having to scrub my old opener blade with a small brush and it didn't come apart so that made it harder to clean and handle. I especially like the way you can remove the blade assembly for cleaning . . . it makes things so much more sanitary. It opens cans in a snap and I love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Black & Decker EC1200 - Can Opener, September 7, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Black & Decker EC1200 Grand Openings Can Opener (Kitchen)
The Black & Decker EC1200 can opener is as attractive as it is inexpensive. It opens everything I have tried effortlessly. The handle just pulls right off so keeping the cutting blade clean is not a problem.

Just about every electric can opener I have tried in the past has been a problem and difficult to use. I just let them sit on the counter because I didn't feel right throwing them in the trash. This just isn't the case with the EC1200 ... If I could change it in any way I wouldn't .. it is exactly what I was looking for and actually works too.
