I've had a similar Black and Decker can opener for years and ordered this updated version hoping for the same service. It was not to be. It did open the cans smoothly but the magnetic lid holder failed within the first week of use. Examining this part of the product you can easily see that it is made poorly and even a replacement is likely to fail quickly so I returned this product and will purchase another brand/model.

I am a long time customer of Amazon but never needed to return a product before. The good part of this experience is that I did learn that it is easy to return items and that they will even pay for the shipping.

Positive:
Doesn't drop the lid back into your food
Won't leave label shavings on your counter
Doesn't splash juice when opening can
Opens cleanly without metal shavings
Negative:
Knife sharpener doesn't work too well.

I works ok once you figure how to work it and then it is thochy about opening a can.

Do NOT buy this can opener! It is $15 worth of frustration and anger. I just finally threw mine in the trash after two years of struggle. Most of the time I ended up having to open cans with a hand opener that was my grandmother's from the 50's! It is extra tall for big cans, but won't open anything larger or wider than a mini can of sliced olives. It locks up and won't turn, causing you to try to muscle it around yourself. At the end of mine's life, it would get so stuck I couldn't lift the handle to get the can out, yet it kept running and was getting hot even.

STAY AWAY. Looks like the company discontinued it. Not hard to figure out why...

I just threw this can opener out today after trying to clean it off. I bought this guy about 3 years ago, and it did its job-- it opened cans okay. I just think I don't like electric can openers. I've been routinely cleaning this can opener since I bought it, and it was just nasty everytime and impossible to get all the way clean. Sometimes you really gotta stuff that can into the blade to get it to cut into the can, too. All in all, it was just a yucky opener, and finally after giving it its weekly "wipedown" with some cleaning products, the plastic piece that holds the blade simply snapped off. I hate having to throw it away, but I'm glad I'm rid of the thing. I'm going back to manual. Sure, it takes more time, but they are at least cleaner.

I like this can opener. It's tall enough for a three pound can of Yuban and handles the smallest cans with ease. It operates without a bunch of racket, grips the cans well and causes no problems. Inserting the can to begin the process takes a bit of technique, but once learned, it's simple as pie.

The product is wonderful. No surprises, works exactly as it should. Although, when we first purchased it, we received a broken product. Black and Decker was wonderful about making sure we got a replacement can opener at no charge to us.
