June 25, 2014 update: I am happy to say that my replacement chopper is unchanged from the one that I bought nine years ago. It comes with a two-year limited warranty that covers any defect in material or workmanship, not to exceed the purchase price of the product, so save your receipt.

June 11, 2014 update: If you were ever going to get one of these, today is the day. Amazon has them priced at $10.33, a price I have not seen for literally several years. It is worth it just to get the plastic bowl, which is no longer available as a replacement part. This is also a perfect gift for that graduate starting on his/her own or anyone else establishing a new household.

February 13, 2014 update: In response to a question posted today about getting a replacement bowl, I learned the following information. After checking their parts listing online, I called Black & Decker directly, 800-738-0245, and spoke to a representative. As of right now, they will sell replacement parts for the base lid and the blade assembly for this model chopper, but they no longer offer the bowl separately as a replacement part. The representative added that no other bowl in their line will fit this model. That means that if the bowl cracks, you now have to buy a completely new chopper. The replacement bowl that B&D gave me has lasted about 8 years even though it started to split in 2012 (but as of now it still does not leak); I suspect that if I had not cleaned it for many of those years in the dishwasher, it would have lasted longer. Following is are my review and updates from 2005 forward.

As a chopper to use on a daily basis, this is unbeatable. The blades are much more substantial than on other products of this size. However, you have to be very careful with the plastic bowl.

Ever wish you could chop up an onion in 2 seconds? It's possible with this little beauty. Instant bread crumbs? No sweat! How about shaved ice? It's a snap!

The Black & Decker EHC650 Ergo 3-Cup Food Chopper is unlike anything I have used before. It's SAFE and EASY to use. The best part is the clean-up: There really isn't any. It has only three parts! There's the cup, the powerful blade that slips into the cup, and the ergonomic top. The top is actually the motor - and it fits comfortably in your hand.

It's so easy to use:T

Step 1: Take the one-pound chopper off the shelf.

Step 2: Take off the cover and fill the container.

Step 3: Put the cover on and push one of the two buttons (one's fast and one's slow).

Two settings - fast-pulse and slow-pulse - give you flexibility in how coarse you want your food to be chopped. It even purees!

The see-through container lets you see the food as it is being chopped.

Don't need all those chopped onions right now? Use what you need then pop the handy lid on the container and store it in your fridge.

I highly recommend this product based on its easy of use and ease of clean-up.

This is the best electric food chopper I ever used.

Two years ago I bought the Black & Decker KEC600 Cordless Can Opener. Another super highly recommended item. It is inexpensive, powerful, and convenient. It is cordless and sits in a reharging station, then you can take it to anywhere in the kitchen. After two years, the rechargeable battery finally started to get weak. So I ordered another one.

While browsing in the Black and Decker area, I came across this B&D Ergo 3 cup food chopper. Based on the reviews, I decided to give it a try. Now I don't know which one I like... no, love better. I use it to make fresh custom salad dressing. No more hand chopping garlic, now I fine chop it before sautéing for making sauce. The list is endless.

I have a 90 year old mother I take care of. When she complains about the food not being tender enough, I drop it in the chopper, the razor sharp blades spin at the slow or fast speed, and out comes a beautiful puree. A quick pop into the micro to freshen up the heating, and she loves it.

I'm ordering another chopper. Why? Because I don't ever want to go without it. Since it is a plug in the wall device, it wil probably last for 20 years. If mine gets dropped and breaks, I don't want to take a chance on not having one. Anything this good doesn't last. It is just too great of an item for such a little bit of money. Additionally, I like the fact that it comes with a removable flexible bottom, that doubles as a lid when you want to put your blendings in the refrig, without having to scoop them out.

One reviewer commented that they wish they would offer the bottom container as a separate item because it would be convenient, to have more than one. My logic is that for this kind of money, buy two. All bases are covered that way.

Pretty small in size. If you don't have space in you kitchen, it will fit perfectly in any hole you find. Very easy to clean. Quiet motor, sharp blades.
For me chopper must chop, but not squash. So it perfectly chopes to small pieces everything that is dry or crispy, like carrot, onion, fresh herbs, nuts.
Absolutely useless for tomatos. That's why i gave 4 stars.
