I purchased this food processor for myself only about two weeks ago, so I can't say yet as to how long it lasts. I wanted to point out a few problems with it though. First off I really despise the locking lid 'safety feature'! I find it difficult to position the bowl and lid correctly and get it to lock and I usually have to try this several times to get it right. (The unit will not power on until the lid is locked correctly) In fact, the first day that I had this I thought that it was broken and I almost returned it! I am also not pleased with the shredding blade. My main purpose of this processor was to shred potatoes so that I don't have to use a hand grater or purchase the frozen pre-shredded ones. The shredding blade on this is very small and makes the potatoes come out more like spaghetti noodles. I would love to purchase a different size blade but Black and Decker does not make one. I am going to shop other food processors with better shredding capabilities and when I find one that suits me I am going to replace this one. I hope that this review will help others who are looking for a good shredding food processor.

This machine works great. I love it. I bought it to make a recipe for pasteles (Puerto Rican tamales). I had to replace the blade with one that I bought just to make the pasteles. This machine worked great. I was able to make the dough for pasteles in 20 minutes. This usually takes 4 to 5 hours to make by hand. This machine is awesome!

Piece o' Crap,

I've had this for just 24 hours and it's already broken to where it can't be used. I followed the instructions to the T. I even made a practice run before using it w/food. The first thing I made with it was hummus. Threw the garbanzos in, went to lock the lid and it wouldn't lock. Then, SNAAAP! In locking the lid, a piece by the chute blocker cracked, but the lid still stayed in place so I went to finish my hummus. I gently unlock the lid, inspected it and CRACK! A whole chunk of plastic falls right off the lid! I was hoping I can just hold the lid in place to finish my hummus but it wouldn't work. And since there's a safety feature that won't allow the food processor to run at all until everything is securely locked in place, with the broken lid not secure, the whole thing is worthless, and my hummus sits unfinished. Save yourself the hassle, drop the few extra bucks and get something more durable.

Poor Quality!,
This review is from: Black & Decker FP1450 Quick'n Easy 450-Watt 8-Cup Food Processor (Kitchen)
This is very poor quality, the lid cracked and broke very easily. To replace the lid it will cost $20 and I am not sure it will be worth it as the new one is probably just as flimsy. Also, it doesn't work well with more "liquidy" mixes as some of the mixture will spray out of the side, even if the guard is in place. I honestly wish I had splurged on something a little nicer and not wasted $40 on this piece of machinery that is more than likely headed to a landfill somewhere.

it works, but it's NOT SAFE,

We got this food process for our teenage daughter who likes to cook. When we can get the container&lid assembly to lock onto the base, which can in itself be quite difficult, it does a nice job quickly processing the food to an even texture.
HOWEVER, the container&lid assembly also gets stuck in the locked position so that you cannot open the food container afterward. My daughter spent over half an hour trying to find ways to get her processed food out of the container, finally injuring her hand. I won't let her use it anymore. A frustrating experience from the beginning, and now I have to buy a whole new food processor.

I received this as a gift, and the first time I used it the plastic piece on the container that switches the unit on broke off. I went to turn it to the on position, and it turned on then the switch piece broke off and the machine kept going. Had to unplug it, and meanwhile food all over the counter. I would NOT recommend this to anyone - spend a little more and get one that works!

I got this a few weeks ago and so far it works great. It has sliced and chopped everything from eggplants to potatoes. I like the continuous flow chute though the cup is generally large enough. Good buy for the price :)

Lasted just a few months. I guess it couldn't handle cooked pumpkin. Not worth the money I paid.

Piece of Junk,

This is the biggest piece of junk I have ever purchased. It broke the very first time my mother used it. The latch on the top to keep it closed broke when she went to lock it. She couldn't hold it closed to finish the job, as it would not work.
