Black & Decker's Three-Piece Freewire Starter Kit includes everything needed to wirelessly control lighting and electronics in your home. The system is simple to install and works by sending and receiving radio frequencies between the main hub and remote controls and receivers located throughout your home. The included remote control sends a radio frequency to the included main hub which, in turn, sends a radio frequency to the included receiver to control up to two incandescent lights.

For an affordable, expandable, wireless automation system, try the Black & Decker Freewire Remote, Lamp Module, Receiver kit, which sets up in only a few minutes. Once programmed, you'll be able to turn on either of two lights with a push of a button from across the room or across your house. No rewiring is necessary: If you can plug in a lamp, you can use the Black & Decker Freewire Remote system, which will even work seamlessly with your existing X10 components. A 3V lithium battery (included) is required. This starter kit includes a messenger hub and an indoor remote as well as a lamp module. The messenger hub is the brain of your expandable Freewire system that doubles as a lamp module, so you'll actually be able to control two separate lamps with this starter system. When plugged into an AC outlet, the messenger hub has the ability to receive RF signals from the indoor remote and relays these wireless messages to any Freewire receiver dialed to the same house code. Control lighting and small electronics throughout your home all from the palm of your hand using the included indoor remote, which even comes with a mountable holder. The indoor remote works with all Freewire components. This remote will turn three units and two groups on and off; it will also turn all Freewire-enabled lights and appliances on and off at once. Freewire's 256 channels and 64,000 unique codes ensure a secure system for your home. The HomeLink Wireless Control System is a factory-installed feature packaged on many vehicle models, providing a convenient way to replace up to three handheld radio-frequency transmitters used to activate devices such as gate operators, garage door openers, entry door locks, security systems and home lighting. Freewire products are compatible with select 2001 and newer HomeLink-equipped vehicles.

MY HUSBAND HAS BEEN UNABLE TO WALK FOR SEVERAL YEARS. HE IS OFTEN AWAKE AT NIGHT BUT WITHOUT ACCESS TO A LAMP FROM HIS BED. THIS NEW REMOTE ENABLES HIM TO TURN ON AND OFF THE LAMP ANY TIME HE WANTS. I HOPE SOON TO PURCHASE AN ADD-ON UNIT FOR THE TV SO THAT HE MIGHT BE ABLE TO TURN IT BACK ON AGAIN IN THE EVENT OF A POWER FAILURE(THE POWER BUTTON DOESN'T WORK ON THE TV REMOTE). WE WILL BE ABLE TO ADD TWO MORE ITEMS FOR CONTROL WITH THE SAME FREEWIRE REMOTE. WITH NO SPECIAL INSTALLATION OR WIRES TO RUN, BOTH THE BASE UNIT AND THE REMOTE WERE EASY TO SET UP. THEY HAVE BEEN A REAL BLESSING. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, WE CONSIDER THE PRICE TO HAVE BEEN A GREAT BARGAIN.

This unit works very well. The soft-touch buttons on the remote have a great feel and the groups (labelled "moods") give a real versatility to the controls. This device works with my existing X-10 modules with no problems.

Unfortunately, the base will not work with my existing X-10 remotes. I bought this to replace a broken X-10 base and am very disappointed to find the unit only works with Black and Decker Freewire remotes. Since none of the Black and Decker remotes allow for dimming of lamp modules, this creates a problem.

If you don't need dimming, then you'll love this unit. If you need dimming or already have other remotes, look elsewhere.

We use this to control an additional speaker for our TV which the mute button will not turn off. Works great! It would clearly be useful for many other additional tasks around the house.
