Now this drill won't make a fashion statement and you might even get a few snickers will you pull it out because of the brand, Black and Decker, isn't a professional brand. Well I normally simply remind them that B&D drills are made on the same lines that produce DeWalt (professional level) drills and that the looks/brand isn't as important as results. Normally by the end of day/project they start asking me how much a paid..:) I reply about half of what you paid (I spent just under a hundred for mine) for your pretty drill or about the price of the second battery they needed while I was still on my first one.

It is a solid performer that never lets me down. I also don't have to worry about expensive add on items or it getting stolen nearly as much of my more expensive drills. Plus you have the benefit of knowing if it does ever die, you aren't out nearly as much. All of that means it is the first drill I normally reach for and it gets more actual use than my others. If you can get this for under a hundred you won't regret it!

I purchased this drill a few months ago as a temporary substitute for my 10 year old DeWALT DW997. The DeWALT is an 18 volt hammer drill. Both of my batteries are bad, and I have since replaced them. I used the Black & Decker for several install jobs before I was able to get the new batteries.

(I ended up purchasing a factory reconditioned DCD970KL from my local Tool King for $[...] as it was only about $30 more than the best deal for a pair of new Lithium-Ion batteries and charger from Amazon.
[...]
The new model is about 1 lb. lighter and even more powerful than my old drill. The Lithium batteries are absolutely amazing!)

The GC180WDR drill is ok. If you are doing light-duty general household projects, you will be able to get by with this unit. It is limited with a 3/8" chuck. Also, it is a single speed setup with limited torque. The maximum speed is 750 RPM, not the typical 1,600-2,000 RPM of a typical 18 volt drill. It did not have the capability to run my Klein Flex Bit Auger for doing installs going perpendicular to cross-members. The chuck also slips under heavy loads. This is possibly due to the fact that the chuck does not lock in place when the unit is not powered. This makes it very difficult to really tighten the chuck.

This product is exactly what it is: a light-duty drill for household use. If you are only using it for occasional household chores, then this will be a good product. If you need it for serious high-torque applications, look at a higher-end brand such as DeWALT, Bosch, Milwaukee, etc.

To correct a previous reviewer, Black & Decker is in fact the parent company of DeWALT as well as Porter-Cable, but these products are NOT produced on the same line.

My husband and I have 3 children and with that comes a lot of fixing, repairing, and putting up a lot of things! This drill does the job for me! I don't know how it would work for someone who uses it everyday but for us it's the perfect drill and I couldn't beat the price!!!

Consdering all my old 18v B&D batteries & chargers are shot, i got replacements with a newer model drill thrown in. Got similar deal at Walmart & that pkg. came with 2 batteries. Only 1 in stock, though. My "super-store" is not very Super. That's why i keep coming back to Amazon. Also, Amazon's website is Very user-friendly & MUCH, MUCH better for the shopper & you can't beat delivery to my door (mostly free if one has Amazon Prime). Prime is perhaps the best deal Amazon offers - I sure get more than my money's worth.
