We got this gadget three months ago because my wife has limited right hand grasp and can't use a manual can opener. Pros: Our Gizmo has opened many a can since, from small to large. The trick for us is to position the Gizmo on larger cans, turn it on and let it "walk" itself around- smaller cans may have to be held. The charge has lasted for weeks on the average. Cons: Though the blade looks rather cheesy, it has done well so far... the only defect we have noticed is the Gizmo and associated charger's size- they are bulky and don't fit easily into normal kitchen drawers (ergo, four stars). Nonetheless, it is an easy decision for us- the Gizmo stays!A year-plus later (May 2004,) this Gizmo still works like new, with at least daily use. I like it, and my wife is very pleased with it's easy-to-use functionality and its ergonomic fit in her hand. (Tip: When it begins to run down, we turn it on until it is fully discharged before putting it on its charging base - with NiCd batteries, this will prevent your battery form developing a "false memory" and not charge fully.)

The Gizmo is ok for small can's . But getting it started on a small can is a pain. For a large can it dose not have the power to open them . Part way through it will stop. The Gizmo is a good idea but it needs work. Black & Decker is a good name so i think thay could do it.

I really liked this opener. While it lasted. After about 2 months of use, a rivet worked loose so the opener wouldn't grip any can. I called B&D Customer Service. They gave me an RMA number and said they'd send me a replacement. It only took 6 weeks and two phone calls to get a replacement. Glad I didn't toss my old hand-cranked opener!

love this little GIZMO,

I got interested in this can opener when I saw it on TV, but was really sold on it when I tried it for the first time. I use it all of the time and it has even worked well for large cans. I also like the fact that I can keep it in my drawer between uses and it keeps its charge well. It is such a great little opener that, after watching me use it, my father has requested two of them for himself - one for the house and one for his camper! I would recommend this product to anyone.

Gizmo,

This Gizmo is the neatest can opener. It makes opening a can fun! You can hang it under a cabinet and use it like a regular electric can opener, or remove the little Gizmo and watch it run around the top of the can as it opens it perfectly. I recommend it to everyone.

This is one of the best can openers I have ever had. When I make spaghetti sauce, I open about 5 cans. In between opening each can I could empty it into the pot and stir. By the time I'm done, the next can is ready to empty. It's great! I use the gizmo all the time and I haven't charged it but once or twice in the year that I've had it. I definitely reccommend it.

Won't hold a changre,

I first saw the Gizmo on TV and had to have it. I bought it about 11 months ago and it worked ok for a few months. It kept loosing it's charge. It was hard to put it in the cradle but I put it in and held it for an hour and it would not open a can. It stayed on the charger for 3 days and would not open a can. I have returned to my manual can opener, a P-38.

Great for arthritic hands,
By A Customer
This review is from: Black & Decker GC200 Gizmo Can Opener, White (Kitchen)
My mom has developed arthritis in her hands and has difficulty gripping onto a regular hand held can opener. I tried another popularly sold electric can opener to no avail. But, the Gizmo was a winner. No problems whatever. She loves it, and the continued success of being independent. Thank you Black and Decker!

This has to be the cutest and most efficient can opener we have ever owned. There are no sharp or rough edges on the cans when you open them. And you can just pop the lid right off into the garbage without worrying about cutting yourself. My girls get such a kick out of how the Gizmo goes around the can that I am not allowed to open anything until they are both in the room!!

Not for Large Cans,
By A Customer
This review is from: Black & Decker GC200 Gizmo Can Opener, White (Kitchen)
I loved the idea of the Gizmo. It worked great until we tried to open a large coffee can. It was unable to open the can at all, and the attempt burned up the motor. So a month after buying the Gizmo, it was useless. If you plan to ONLY open small cans, you might like it.Pros: It was handy and could be stored in a drawer after being charged. It was easy to clean. It was fun to watch it "walk" around the can. Cons: It was sometimes difficult to get properly positioned on the can. The blade arm fell off easily. It was incapable of opening large cans. It did not hold a charge as long as they claimed it would. The bottom line is that I will NOT be buying another Gizmo. I need something that can handle small AND large cans. This just wasn't up to the task. |
