WOW!! A true Gizmo in every sense of the word. I love Gizmo's and Gadget's and this is right up my alley. Black & Decker has been around many years, and has made average boring household products most of that time. But as of late they have come out with an expanded line of superior innovative well made products, I own 5 deferent B&G items. This Gizmo Salad Dressing Mixer seems to be a new era of creativity for them. To my knowledge this is a one of a kind item, the only one that mixes as you pour.

With all the salad dressings out there you would think I would find one I liked. Well I did somewhat until I get tired of that one and have to look for another one for $3 to $5 a pop. Of course most of them have strange things in them plus preservatives.

I do make my own dressings at times, and they mostly come out good. But than you come down to the problem of the oil always rising to the top and all the other ingredients on the bottom. True you can shake it vigorously and pour it real fast before it separates again. But there are many times I did not pour it fast enough and I got a big gulp of oil on my Salad. Now you have a salad with a whole bunch of oil and very little dressing.

Fortunately there is a solution to this problem, Buy the B&D Gizmo Salad Dressing Mixer. This thing works well, just tip it to pour and it automatically turns on and mixes your ingredients while pouring. If you really want to agitate your mixture, just press the power boost button. It goes about double speed and agitates the mixture fast.

It holds enough for about 4 or 5 salads. You can make more in another container to refill the Gizmo. It has a cute little cap that goes on top for storing your mix, which doubles as a measuring device.

It clean's up fairly easy. The clear plastic bowl detaches from the lower motor section, just fill it with hot soapy water, put the cap on and shake it hard. They say to reassemble it and start the motor, but I find my way work's just as well.

The only problem I see so far is if your mixture is to thick " with mayo, sour cream or yogurt " it won't mix well. You need to keep it on the light side to mix well.

This came with some recipes, and there are plenty more on the web. Or just be creative and mix your own. No more chemicals in your dressing which is a major plus. To conclude, this is a very nice inexpensive device that work's well.

Never have understood why people buy expensive store-bought salad dressings when it's fairly easy to make your own. Especially using this nifty Black and Decker product. There are easy recipes to follow on the outside of the jar as a guide. Because it's battery-operated, it's easy to use anywhere in the kitchen. The design of the bottle means there's very little backsplash when pouring in the olive oil during the emulsification process. I've owned this unit for over 5 years [just ordered another one] - and find it's the most convenient way to prepare great dressings!

You know how, when you pour salad dressing, all the little seasoning specks float to the back of the bottle as you tip it?

Never again! Not with the Gizmo! It's PERFECT!

It mixes as it pours, so you get the seasonings PLUS the oil and vinegar.

What a great little device!

I had to return it because the switch was defective, returned it and got a second one that seems to work well.

Has recipes to make your own salad dressing on the side of the mixer, does a great job! Buy this and then have a reason to start eating healthier!!

All-in-all, this does what it ought to. You pour in the ingredients, press the button, and they are mixed together. You put it on the salad, a bit of too-much-noise later your well-mixed dressing is where it needs to be.

Now to the bad side. There is a switch issue, initially it was just fine, but gradually it becomes a bit loose and tends to slowly slide from the "off" to the "on" position. Once on, the unit intermittently turns itself on, which is why some of the other reviewers complained about batteries running out. My solution was keeping the batteries out, for now it works, but again, as mentioned by other reviewers, the battery cover is not too rugged either so I'm wondering how long it will work.

Pros:
- Mixes pretty well.
- Does what it's supposed to.

Cons:
- Switch not designed properly.
- Will not last.

I'm not sure this is the most efficient thing to have around or even that it's great at keeping the salad dressing mixed up. It's also terrible for storage afterward without an appropriate lid. BUT, the guests LOVE this thing! They oooh and aaah every time. So easily amused. ;-) It's worth having just for that!

Update: Broken after 3 months. Not sure how it happened. The motor works, but it won't turn the wisk inside.

We bought about 3 months ago, and the unit has had to have batteries changed 3 times. Problem is, aside from eating batteries, you usually don't know you need new batteries until the unit is filled with oil and ingredients and it wont work. The battery replacement is very challenging when it is full since the compartment is on the bottom of the unit.
Also, the motor is very loud.
Now the unit has died.. and just tossed it out.. good riddance.. going back to a shaker bottle..

I love this mixer as I make my own vinaigrette several times a week. You can make extra and save it in the container in the refrigerator. It is great!!

The GDM100 is a great idea but falls short in delivering what it promises.

We had a problem with the mixing shaft seizing up on the unit most likely due to us storing our vinaigrette in the unit's upper container. Black & Decker clearly state that it is designed to handle it but yet here we are.

Otherwise the unit works great and does exactly what it says. Well at least for about 30 days until the mixing shaft seizes up and stops working.

Gave this two stars since it works great as long as you clean it out often and dont store anything acidic in it.
