5.0 out of 5 stars Works great (GR100) for me.
I purchased the B & D GR100 at Target (11/24/08) before I read the reviews and I was very afraid I had bought junk. I have not had any of the problems mentioned here. It heats and cooks evenly all over the grill surface. The non-stick coating is non-stick for me as well. The cooking area is really large and there is a short "back splash" that comes in handy. If any thing...

i've had this for only a couple months and this grill is HORRIBLE headache and as soon as i can afford to replace it its going in the trash. i should have stayed with presto. i had 2 of thier grills that i used constantly until the non stick surface was worn out and each of them lasted over a year and a half before that happened. but they always heated evenly. never did i have the problems with them and especially when i've only had it a couple months and its surfaces looks worse than either of them.. not only do i have to put everything on 400 degrees to get any sort of heat. it does not cook evenly the entire center of the grill won't get hot enough to grill and the heat sensor will not only NOT turn on without jiggling it countless times when it DOES finally heat up it wont stay hot and turns off mid cooking my food and i have to rejiggle the element to get it to RE turn on.. i also wish i would have read these reviews before purchasing, i was going to get a presto but this one had a cheap price so i got it instead cause i was trying to get a good deal.. big mistake!!! awaiting the day i can throw this horrible waste of money away.. the heating surface IS large and i like the warming basket.. it does work well.. but that is it..

1.0 out of 5 stars I wish there was a 0 star!!!, June 7, 2006
This review is from: Black & Decker GR100 Family-Sized Electric Nonstick Griddle (Kitchen)
We have had several griddles in our house through the years and never before did we have such a piece of junk. My husband couldn't even keep greasy bacon from sticking to this. It was such a headache we threw it away. Wish we could have returned it, but didn't think to keep the box and receipt.

1.0 out of 5 stars Please do not purchase, you'll only encourage B&D to continue making garbage, December 26, 2009
This review is from: Black & Decker GR100 Family-Sized Electric Nonstick Griddle (Kitchen)
My husband purchased this as a Christmas gift, deciding on a Black & Decker, as a name he had heard of and expected reasonable quality, rather than buying the cheapest. MISTAKE.
He's a handyman, so when I said it wasn't heating evenly he went out to his shop and got his Cen-Tech Laser thermometer and shot readings across the surface of the grill every few centimeters. With the grill set to 400 (and the element had shut off, having apparently reached that temperature) he took his readings. At the edges the temperatures were about 360 at the highest, and about 250 at the center. I ladled some refrigerated pancake batter onto the surface, and the surface temperatures plummeted to 220 at the edges and a startling 180 at the center, and still the thermostat unit, set to 400, did not come on. Apparently, it's 400 degrees, plus or minus 250 degrees.
It's going back in the box right now and back to the store in an hour.
Shame on Black & Decker for making it, shame on any store that stocks it and shame on you if you buy it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Keep on Looking, April 5, 2006
This review is from: Black & Decker GR100 Family-Sized Electric Nonstick Griddle (Kitchen)
I bought this in the store without reading reviews, big mistake!! It does have a large cooking surface, however it does not heat evenly and does not cook anything very well. The non stick coating started coming off after the first washing. Very disapointed in this product will be investing in a new griddle very soon!

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk - find another option, December 26, 2006

I just threw this thing in the garbage after 12 months, and wish I would have done so 11 months ago. "Non-stick" coating was peeling off which I am sure is not a healthy addition to your pancakes. Heating was very uneven, hot right under the perimeter and cool in the center.

This is a piece of junk that does not get hot enough to cook anything. A piece of cr*p. I just threw mine in the trash after trying to use it once.

1.0 out of 5 stars worst griddle ever, February 15, 2008
This review is from: Black & Decker GR100 Family-Sized Electric Nonstick Griddle (Kitchen)
Please do not waste your money, you too will hate this griddle for the following reasons:

grease catch slides broke the first cleaning (cheap, brittle plastic)

Very uneven heating. Far left end of griddle way over-temp, far right end barely warm.

Temp control does not match griddle temp. Set the temp control over 225 and you will be making char-broiled pancakes.

Surface very rough. Non-stick coating is anything but non-stick. Coating was applied over improperly prepared surface.

Unfortunately, it was a gift from my kids so I'm stuck with it for awhile. "Dad! make us some pancakes on your new griddle", Uh... Ok, I'll try.

1.0 out of 5 stars Versatile tool of questionable quality, October 8, 2011
This review is from: Black & Decker GR100 Family-Sized Electric Nonstick Griddle (Kitchen)
After having quickly determined that this is the worst griddle mankind has ever conceived of, I set about to discover its myriad other uses, with mixed results. Here are my ratings after some research. Out of 5 star ratings when used as a:

- Paperweight: 2 stars. It is big and clunky and responds to the pull of gravity reasonably well. The plastic feet do slide around if you're not careful, so don't use unless you only marginally care about your paper staying put.

- Doorstop: 1 star. Too big and has that annoying sticky-outy power plug thing that I tripped on several times. Slidey feet - need I say more?

- Cat warmer: 3 stars. My cat enjoyed this griddle as a cozy afternoon nap surface. At full temperature it reached a comfortable lukewarmth that Fluffy found irresistible. Had the thing stayed on consistently, it would have gotten 5 stars.

- Nail driver: 2 stars. I managed to bang about 20 nails into a wooden board with it before the plastic siding started to crack. I'd recommend using a hammer instead.

- Posterboard: 3 stars. Everything I put on this griddle stuck fast - no tape or pushpins necessary! Their proprietary cooking surface technology is a modern miracle in adhesion. Unfortunately, it often peels off with the papers once you try to remove them, covering the back of your flyers and posters with toxic, cancer-causing black flakes.

- Blunt trauma applicator: 4 stars. Good heft and large contact surface makes this a good applicator for blunt trauma. You probably couldn't kill somebody with it, but you could sure raise a bump on someone's forehead. It could easily crush your toe falling off the counter. A candlestick, wrench or baseball bat may be a better choice, depending on your objective.

Black and Decker have designed a very versatile product that does no one thing very well, but manages to serve a number of purposes in a pinch. This would make a great precursor to the Presto griddle you'll inevitably end up with afterwards.

1.0 out of 5 stars Non-stick needs work..., May 30, 2008
This review is from: Black & Decker GR100 Family-Sized Electric Nonstick Griddle (Kitchen)
We bought this product to replace a smaller Presto unit because of its size and features. However, recipes and food that did not stick to our Presto (even used both units side-by-side in the event it was the food/ingredients!!!) will stick and make a mess on this griddle.

If a "non-stick" griddle can't handle the simple task of pancakes without sticking like an un-treated, no butter/spray/oil aluminum pan, imagine the huge mess when using the "family-sized" surface for hamburgers due to a rain-out on using the charcoal grill outdoors.

I have cleaned commerical griddles in resturants that I have worked that were easier to clean than this. Not happy at all, going in the garbage if I can't return it, getting a larger Presto. I hope B&D changes it, I usually like their products.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a piece of trash!, February 2, 2008
This review is from: Black & Decker GR100 Family-Sized Electric Nonstick Griddle (Kitchen)
This is a horrible griddle! It really deserves zero stars and anyone who bought it deserves their money back. The element does not heat evenly and it creates some very hot spots and some very not-hot spots. The grease channels do not angle downwards towards the front where the grease could get into the trap. It just pools up and actually fills towards the rear of the channels. The non-stick surface is VERY stick. The fact that it has a fairly large surface is its only good feature, but it's only of benefit if you're not using the heating element. So, if you need to melt some ice in the hot sun then this is the griddle for you. If you want to do any cooking at all you need to look elsewhere.
