Handy Little Chopper from Black & Decker,
By
This review is from: Black & Decker HC3000 Handy Chopper Food Chopper (Kitchen)
I don't enjoy cooking and food preparation as much as some people, but when I need to chop up some onions, nuts, other foods in small quantities, I reach for my Black and Decker HC3000 Handy Chopper. This device is inexpensive, easy to use, lightweight, and perfect for food chopping when you have a small amount of food to be chopped.
This unit only holds 1.5 cups, so it isn't very practical for those who need to cut up lots of food. I typically use mine for garlic, onions, and other foods. Since I don't cook very much, this is really all I need to suit my food preparation needs. One word of advice I can give about this chopper is that it will not operate at all unless all of the parts (cup, lid, blade) are properly assembled and snapped perfectly into place. I found this out the hard way one day when I was trying to chop some food and it wouldn't start. I had only owned this device for a couple of weeks at the time and I assumed the worst: that I got a defective product that would need to be returned. But then I disassembled, reassembled, tried again, and it worked. The problem was that I did not have the lid screwed on tightly enough- the marked groove on the lid wasn't lined up where it needed to be. This is how the chopper operates. It will not start up at all if anything is out of place. Because this unit is so small, it can easily get knocked around if you leave it on your countertop. I have found it best to wrap it up and store it after each use. Its small size makes it easy to store. And the parts (except for the base itself) are all dishwasher safe, so it's easy to clean. This chopper will be too small for some people. But if you're like me and you limit your time in the kitchen to the bare minimum, then the Black & Decker HC3000 Handy Chopper is just what you need. It chops foods quickly and easily, saving you the time required to manually chop your food with a knife.

Not a great buy.,

I bought this an year ago and it worked perfectly for few months. I've been mainly using it for onions, green leaves etc. After few months, the blades were sharp enough and it couldn't make onion paste of it. The jar also started showing small crack lining from the friction between blades, onions/tomatos and the jar plastic. It seems like the materil used is very soft and gets scratched easily. After few months, the lid also becomes loose and if you try to put tomatoes in it, they'll start leaking the juice from the top when the mixer is on.It's definitely convenient, but not dependable for long time.

New and Improved (?),
This review is from: Black & Decker HC3000 Handy Chopper Food Chopper (Kitchen)
I had an original B&D Handy Chopper which was wonderful! Chop garlic for the meat and vegetables, then add oil and vinegar and bam, fresh salad dressing. It lasted for ten years before it started leaking from too many dishwasher loads. I bought a new one called the handy chopper plus. The plastic is brittle, which is not as easy to use and doesn't hold up as well in the dishwasher.
Too bad they "improved" on a wonderful gadget! I was really saddened when it was not available in the old version and still look for it in re-sale shops. Anna

Better than the Cuisinart Mini-Chop,
By Jackie K. "Jackie K." (Oakland, CA) - See all my reviews

I have had two Cuisinart Mini-Chop machines prior to buying the Black & Decker HC3000 Food Chopper. While each did a fair job of chopping small quantities, they were hard to clean, and died within a fairly short time. Vowing never to buy another Cuisinart product, I tried the Black & Decker. I love it. It does a great job of chopping, the container is a perfect size for the kinds of things I need to chop (garlic, ginger, onions), and the on/off button is particularly good for my somewhat impaired hands. It is also easy to wash.

I love this machine,

I have both a cuisinart full size food processor and this little black and decker. I pull this little one out for small jobs when the big one is just too big. It is easy to clean. I have not had any problems with it as long as I don't put too much in it (it wasn't very good for dried chipotles). I use it to chop stuff for chilis, stews, and soups for my crock pot. I had another brand before and I broke it b/c there wasn't enough power. This one has been great...going on two years use.

My Handy little food Chopper,
By
This review is from: Black & Decker HC3000 Handy Chopper Food Chopper (Kitchen)
I gave this only 4 stars because it isn't made as well as the one I had for over 20 years, but I do like it... and for the price you can't go wrong. I use it for chopping parsley, onions, celery, nuts and other herbs that are too small for my 3 cup Processor and too hard to chop well by hand. I was looking at some others but I always came back to this little chopper. I don't know if it will last as long as my other one but I'm happy with it. As long as you realize you can't work it as hard as a bigger processor...I think you will be please with it's performance.

Handy Little Item, but Not Durable,
By Quynce (Morgantown, West Virginia United States) - See all my reviews

Admittedly, when I got this item, I used it every day. I chopped nuts, onion, garlic, carrots, etc. Its great for making a little pesto, dressing, etc. But after six months part of the bowl cracked off, then another part, and now the blades are dull and it jams more than it chops. All in all the item lasted about a year with no problems, and its limped along for another six months. Its not very expensive, so it wasn't a terrible investment-- still, I thought the Black and Decker name would mean it was more durable.

Great for chopping in a hurry!,

This is such a little time saver in my household. We use lots of onion, garlic and nuts in our meals and this little processor is perfect. You don't have to waste time lugging out and setting up a big food processor. We keep this one ready to go in our cabinet. Takes just seconds to process and all you have to do is rinse clean. For projects like chopping this is perfect. Keep in mind it is really small but it saves so much time from having to dice and chop green onions, garlic etc. If you are looking for convienience in a small package this is the processor that is good to have. If you need to do large or even medium size meals I would get a bigger processor.

Handy DANDY Chopper,
By
This review is from: Black & Decker HC3000 Handy Chopper Food Chopper (Kitchen)
I have had one of these food choppers for at least 10 years. Very compact and usefull when in my RV AND in the kitchen at home too. I have a full set of Cusineart blender/chopper etc with an entire set of all blades available. I also have a $400+ Vita-mixer. Yes, I love to cook. I am a male too, for ever what that's worth.
In that most work in the Kitchen calls for things to be chopped or minced, this is what I reach for nine times out of ten.

I love my chopper!,
This review is from: Black & Decker HC3000 Handy Chopper Food Chopper (Kitchen)
My mother-in-law got me one of these when I started feeding my first son baby food. Before, I would just mash up our food with a fork. This is much easier. I've had it for three years now and it's still working great.
I use it for everything, now. My husband doesn't like veggies, and I when I cook I usually put onion, celery, and bell pepper in everything. Now we get the taste of my beloved vegtables, and he doesn't have to deal with the chunks. Great product! |
