1.0 out of 5 stars burned out, August 27, 2004
This review is from: Black & Decker HG1000K Variable Temperature Heat Gun (Tools & Home Improvement)
THe Unit Was good at stripping varnish. The problem it quit after only two weeks of light use ( would strip for 15 mins rest for 30 mins) A very light duty unit. Will pay more next time for heavy duty.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very weak performance for a B&D product..., July 25, 2005
This review is from: Black & Decker HG1000K Variable Temperature Heat Gun (Tools & Home Improvement)
I was highly disappointed with this product because it is extremely weak. The "blow" factor was equivalent to that of your hair dryer on the lowest setting. I returned the item.

2.0 out of 5 stars Typical Made in China Junk, August 17, 2005
This review is from: Black & Decker HG1000K Variable Temperature Heat Gun (Tools & Home Improvement)
And it sure is. Another example of how a good name has sold itself out to the economical race to the bottom.Had I known, I never would have bought it.

It worked for about a total of 10-15 hours, and simply died. If you were to attempt anything of real work in your home, say stipping the paint off an old fireplace mantle, you'de be out of luck. It is just not up to the job it is advertised for, from a very small workable area, to not having he basic durability to be used at the high tempertaure setting required for any degree of time. Hopefully you'll have a chance to return it within the 30 days required. I just barely did. But I had to waste my time, and energy as well as delay my project by several weeks. I didn't buy it for commercial use, so I didn't buy industrial.

Its a sad day when you have to buy industrial/commerical product for some basic simple home use. Black and Decker is forever removed from my list of products, and now I am suspicious of Dewalt, owned by the same manufacturer.Supposedly it is still made in the USA, but which parts inside might be made in China?

I actually gave it a rating of 2, becuase for shrink wrap and plastic shrinkable coverings, it should be just fine. In which case, just get the item without the little carrying case and tools.

Avoid Black and Decker for any legit projects, buy it if you just want a toy to collect dust on a shelf.
