I've tried many different types of Electric Food Steamers and this one is, by far, the best!

Some are impossible to keep clean...like the Oster steamer--mold-type black particles collect in the "water window" area... The Black & Decker Model is "simply perfect". When you lift out the steamer baskets you just add water to whatever level is necessary...cleaning is so easy! Just pour out the water after you're done and rinse out the unit and let it dry.

I'm a stickler for cleanliness and this one keeps me satisfied!

This steamer is a dream come true. I don't ever rave about products, but it has already saved me so much money and helped me lose 15 pounds in less than two months. My boyfriend and I hate to cook and aren't good at it, either. We would go out to eat 3 maybe four times a week due to our busy schedules and lack of desire or skill. Now we go out once a week and buy fresh produce, meat, potatoes, and rice. All it takes is chopping up the food, putting it in there, turning the dial. There is a seasoning tray that allows the food to be penetrated with flavor. You can cook more than two things in it also, I do four course meals using half a basket for one item and half for another. Its extremely easy to clean. My only caution is to lift the lid after the timer goes off and lift away from the baskets. I got burned by this thing due to my own stupidity and believe me - steam burns HURT!!!

Some items take a little longer to steam than the time menu indicated on the back. It takes a bit of experimenting for sure, but once you get the hang of it I guarantee you wont even put it away. Its a staple on our counter just like a microwave or a toaster (only we use it more often!)

Received as a rather unexpected gift about 5 years ago and not being much of a cook thought, what on earth am I supposed to do with this thing? It's turned out to be my favourite time-saving recipe-saving gadget. You do have to watch the cooking times and make sure you take the veggies out as soon as they're done because if you go too long or leave them in there for a few minutes after it turns off, they WILL go soggy but that's not the steamer's fault. The instruction booklet has a long, detailed list of cooking times and how to cut/arrange vegetables. It cooks squash, cabbage and corn especially well. It also does chicken and fish nicely, though the smell does tend to linger a bit; the rice basket also works well though I'd recommend using a bit less water than the book tells you otherwise you end up with starchy, soggy rice instead of the nice chewy rice you want for Chinese and Spanish dishes. The flavor basket is interesting, you have to use quite a bit of seasoning to get the vegetables to take on the flavor but quite honestly, it cooks veggies so well that you don't really need it as you'll be too busy enjoying them the way nature intended them to taste. I don't usually rave over kitchen appliances but I HIGHLY recommend this one.

I have used my steamer all summer. It is terrific! We have 'steamed veggie dinners' all summer long. The dual basket is great...put the potatoes, carrots, onion, etc. in the first basket and when it is almost done I add the second basket filled with zucchine, squash and broccoli for the final few minutes. VOILA...a wonderful healthy dinner.
The rice steamer works great, too. No more mushy rice. I highly recommend it!

Overall this is a great product for a very low cost. The timer is easy to use. It is also easy to clean(that's always a plus). The double deck is also nice when cooking large quantities or 2 different foods. If you cook a lot of veggies, this is a MUST have product.

**For all the people that got no direction booklet, I didn't either. I did however get all the directions and times on a sticker on the back of the machine. **

The steamer itself is great minus one thing....it did not come with the food instructions! This model should have came with a book telling you how long to steam what foods and how high to fill the water line up to. It is a good thing that my mom has the exact same steamer and hers came with a lovely guide telling her the time and water requirement for different foods, she copied it for me.

This is the third food steamer I've owned. I just moved from Chicago and left my old one in storage. This one is deeper than the other one (which is great beacuse a lot of my bowls were too tall for my other one), but this one takes a long time to heat up so for everything that used to take me only 20mins will take this one about 30mins. Otherwise, it works great.

We've had and used this steamer at least once every day for years. It has held up terrific and does a great job for steaming vegetables, cooking rice and other grains, and reheating leftovers. I love the double decker, for doing two at one time. We upgraded from another B&D steamer that we just plain wore out after many years of use.

I am truly impressed with this steamer - it steamed 4 very large artichokes into tender leaves and a "heart" of pure delight. I would definitely recommend it to anyone - it's large capacity is a real bonus, yet you have the option of using just one level for smaller amounts of food. I absolutely LOVE IT!! :-)))
